(More customer reviews)I've been waiting for a good offering of socket 1156 HSF options and this Thermalright MUX-120 delivers.I bought this HSF to use with my Intel Core i7 860 CPU (non-overclocked).I was previously using the Intel stock heatsink and fan which left a lot to be desired in both performance and noise.
The original Intel HSF gave me idle temperatures between 35-40 degrees Celsius and 100% load temperatures 80-82 degrees Celsius which is very high.
After installing the Thermalright MUX-120 with some Artic silver thermal paste, my idle temperatures dropped to 20-22 degrees Celsius and 100% load temperatures of 50-55 degrees Celsius.
The MUX-120 is also much quieter than the stock Intel HSF with a constant speed 120mm fan running at roughly 1200RPM.I cannot hear the fan from the MUX-120 from outside of my Antec P183 case.
The MUX-120 came well package and with a clear instruction manual. The installation was easy, although it does require extra time for the removal of the motherboard if your case does not have access from behind the socket because a metal back plate is required for a stable installation.
The MUX-120 weighs a decent amount, but it fits well and doesn't bend/lean once the case is setup correctly.I would highly recommend this to anyone with a socket 1156 who wants a well-performing HSF with very little sound. If you plan to overclock your CPU it may work well for limited overclocking, but you might need a faster fan to provide better cooling if you overclock aggressively.
