Cisco-Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype Review

Cisco-Linksys CIT400 Dual-Mode Internet Telephony Kit with Integrated Skype
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the CIT400 Linksys comes very close to having a 5 star gadget.I'll break my review into several parts.

Setup: 5 stars - it couldn't have been easier.I plugged the base station into my home network and turned the power on.It was that simple within a few minutes I was making calls.I already had a Skype account so I'm not sure how simple it is the sign-up via the phone.

Design: 3 stars - the phone feels like it was designed by a router company.Nothing really stands out in the design of the phone or the software interface. It's pretty functional but pales in comparison to the UI on most cell phones.Several things that could be better with the UI (and are probably fixable with a firmware upgrade): CallerID doesn't reference your contacts (like most cell phones). When phone numbers in the call log don't fit on the screen they go into a scroll mode, making them impossible to read. The phone doesn't register when another phone in the house has answered a call thus placing them under 'missed calls', my 15 year old at&t cordless phone somehow manages to do this. There is no browser interface to the phone - it would be nice to configure it this way since it is a network device. It's difficult to change Skype accounts quickly.Don't get me wrong the phone is quite functional, but many aspects of it could have been executed better.

Quality: 4 stars - overall I've been quite pleased with the quality of the Skype calls. They sometimes suffer from a delay (thus not 5star) but are good enough to replace my long distance company.

Service: 1 star - I'm probably being harsh but in today's connected world I consider it very bad form for high tech companies to not have employees that care enough to read and respond to their own online forums.I own other gadgets, like a Tivo and Roku Soundbridge, where I can find pretty much the answer to anything by reading the product forum hosted on the company web site. This is mainly because those companies have employees who seem to want to connect with their customers. It makes sense - it's an inexpensive way to support a product. In the case of the CIT400 (and other Linksys phones) the forum stinks.I have yet to see a knowledgable representative of Linksys post there. It wouldn't take a lot of effort and to me shows a lack of pride in the product.

Skype service isn't any better. When I tried to see if anything could be done to improve the delay issues I was having on some calls, I exchanged a frustrating set of emails with Skype service asking me to replace the drivers on my sound card and making sure the microphone on my PC wasn't as fault. In other words they kept sending me pre-formulated canned repsonses.

Of course, the handset supports SkypeOut dialing as well as your Skype contact list display. It rings when you have a Skype or SkypeIn or standard telephone call coming in, and shows the caller's ID on the screen. The handset also supports call waiting and Skype's optional voicemail service. When you're on a call, you can hit the mute button for privacy, or use the speakerphone function to let everyone join in. Other features include polyphonic MIDI ringer melodies on the handset and voice encryption for maximum security. You'll also enjoy 120 hours of standby time and six hours talk time on the handset's rechargeable battery.
The Linksys CIT400 also allows you to choose to make calls to other Skype users or over your existing standard telephone line. You'll get the convenience of a cordless phone and all its features, plus the high-quality voice reception integrated right into your Skype handset--no computer is required.
Long Range, Clear Sound, and Minimal Interference

NuForce Icon Mobile headphone amplifier and USB DAC (black color) Review

NuForce Icon Mobile headphone amplifier and USB DAC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have not stopped smiling since I received my NuForce Icon USB DAC. I listen to my downloaded computer music for at least 6 hours every day; 5 days a week. I have been trying to upgrade my music files to higher bit rates. I purchased high quality ear buds to get better sound. Each has made small improvements to my listening experience, but nothing compares to the HUGE improvement in sound quality that I got when I purchased the NuForce Icon USB DAC.
2 words immediately come to mind. Clarity and impact. I noticed both on the first song I played. It is unbelievable what this little DAC did to the music. I was hearing instruments and sounds that I had never heard before in some of the songs that I have listened to hundreds of times before. Truly amazing product and it's only $99.
It will not perform miracles, however. Garbage in/garbage out. If you have really poor quality music files; it can only do so much.
If, like me, you listen to a lot of music on a computer, you have got to try this little Mighty Mite.
I am truly blown away.

Philips DCM250 Docking Entertainment System Review

Philips DCM250 Docking Entertainment System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my Philips DCM250 and have been nothing but impressed by this unit. Right out of the box, it's a gorgeous piece. Very sleek and very modern. The scrunched up photograph on the page does it no favors whatsoever, so make sure you look at the larger image. It took me no more than a few minutes to get the unit set up in my bar room and it was off to the races with my iPod.

The sound quality immediately blew me away. This unit sounds fantastic. It's got two large, ported speakers that produce the full spectrum really well. What I really noticed was how much punch the little unit could throw behind bass. It's incredible. It doesn't quit at high volumes either, it fills the largest room of my house with enough sound that it starts to resonate off the walls creating a pseudo-surround effect without any distortion whatsoever.

I chose to navigate to whatever album I wanted to listen to using my iPod wheel and just turning back to what I was doing. You can't really read the iPod screen from far enough away to bother trying to control it's playback with the remote. What the unit does do though that's special is it has full video support. You can plug it directly into your TV via component cables that are included to get a large screen and full video playback.

It has a ton of playback sources. Along with the iPod it has AM/FM radio support that can be boosted with included external antennas, it plays CDs including discs that are loaded with MP3 files and it has an Aux input and a dedicated USB input. I tested the USB input with my Sandisk Sansa Clip and was able to get playback from it also once I played with the USB mode on the Sansa. If you have a device and you want to plug it into this, there's an input for it.

I really recommend this unit. It is easily the finest iPod dock that I have ever touched in this price range.

Tenqa SP-109 Wireless Stereo Bluetooth Speaker Review

Tenqa SP-109 Wireless Stereo Bluetooth Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was trying to find a quick speaker to use in my home gym to listen to the music on my iphone 4. This speaker works perfectly! The audio quality is great and is loud even over the sound of a treadmill, fan and large box fan! The speaker has its own volume control but you can still turn the volume up and down using the phone. It also has a great range, I walked out of the gym and up a floor and it never lost reception.

This was a GREAT find!

i.Sound DGIPOD-1500 Twin Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G Review

i.Sound DGIPOD-1500 Twin Charger for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I give it 5 stars becuase it does everything it is suppose to do, which is charge 2 iphones/ipods at the same time. The blue led is bright at night but the unit has a switch to turn it off. The other review gave it a con by saying it cant sync to your computer but it was not design to do that and it never said anywhere that it does. You cant give something a con for being 30 dollars when a dual charger with usb sync would be about 100.

Pros
It works
Came with adapters (MANY)
Led switch
Charges 2 iphones

Con
Kinda cheap material
Doesnt make me coffee in the morning

I absolutely love it!! I wasn't sure if it'd work with my iphone to play music off of but it works great. The sound is wonderful. I also hook it up to my comp if I'm watching a movie on it for a surround sound kind of experience and it's super nice. The remote is very very handy too. It's worth the price. I'd recommend to anyone. =)
