(More customer reviews)I don't have a lot to say, since I only tried this cam briefly at the CES 2009 show where they were launched. But since there are no other reviews, I figure I could help you some.

These devices DID work, but the image is not crystal clear. It reminds me a lot of those old 3D movies, like Creature From The Black Lagoon. People need to wear the goofy two color 3D glasses to see the image, and it still looks blurry...but it IS 3D, which is cool.

I'm going to buy one for the novelty of it, but certainly won't make it my main USB camera. I love the top of the line Logitechs, and they offer such a good image over Skype that anyone can see, not just people with special glasses. If you just want a great image, I highly recommend the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 - it's worth the price.

If you are interested in 3D fun, go for this one. And don't forget that it can also run just one camera and send a normal 2D image.

Microsoft LifeCam VX-7000 Win USB Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this webcam to replace an extremely old (circa 1999) Logitech WebCam.Some of the other reviews here indicate that this webcam is junk, but I am very happy with it.Here's a few observations with respect to my own use and some of what I've read in other reviews here.

o Video Quality - I have no problem with it and have yet to have any "freezes".My guess is that freezes are more associated with network latency.I have not tried this over a LAN (very high speed local), but over a cable modem that is 7MBit down, 384k up.You have to take that into account before you blame the webcam.My 384k up is not very fast, for a cable modem, but that's Time Warner for you.Up north (NY/CT area), my peers enjoy 3Mbit upstream!Ugh!

o Software Install Location- Another reviewer brought this up.Who cares?This isn't a 4GB first person shooter, it's a few megs of drivers that mostly need to go under the windows folder anyhow.Non-issue.

o Software Install "eXPerience" - glad to say I had no issues.Install the software, plug in the camera when it asks, and I was good to go.I'm running XP Pro on a 3GHz "single core" (old school? heh) CPU.

o Application Compatibility - It's working great with both Windows Live Messenger and Skype (latest version, 3.8.0.115).

o Built-In Mic - This was a nice surprise for me.I recently purchased a SUB Logitech ClearChat Pro headset, but the built-in mic of this webcam lets me be headset free.I ask everyone I videochat with, can you hear me okay? (Answer: Yes), and do you hear feedback or your voice? (Answer: No).So I am very pleased.Of course, you can set Windows Live Messenger and Skype to use a headset microphone or other device, you don't have to use the built-in mic.

o "The Software" - Okay, the software that comes with the webcam is very basic.But if you want something better, you can get it for free from Microsoft.XP has "Windows Movie Maker" built in, you don't NEED to use the webcam software.Or go install the Windows Media Encoder, that's another free option.I've used both no problem.

In summary, I am very pleased with the performance of the VX-7000.You can record video at 640x480 or 800x600 without problem, and that's pretty good in my opinion.After all, 800x600 is better resolution than DVD video (720x480).If you need more, I don't think you should be looking at a webcam!I think, bottom line, this product is meant for and good at its intended use - video chatting over the internet.I would buy this again.

Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX Review

(More customer reviews)I just want to confirm that this camera is indeed compatible with a Mac, and works reasonably well with Skype. My set up: 1.5 GHz Powerbook G4, Mac OS X 10.4.8, Skype 2.5.0.85, macam 0.9.1 driver. The refresh rate is not that high, subjectively at about 10 fps. Mic on the camera does not work, but the Powerbook built-in mic works very well. Headphones are not necessary but desirable to eliminate echo. The camera produces good focus and depth of field, and auto adjusts to different lighting conditions. Overall, video quality is not outstanding, but pretty decent and quite usable with Skype.

Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a decent webcam for the price, but it cannot be compared with higher-end cameras. Overall the installation and configuration is quite simple; load in the drivers, plug in the camera and you're all set. The camera comes with a small program that allows you to adjust certain settings on the camera, such as brightness and hue, and the software also allows for still-picture and video capture. While still pictures can be 1.3 megapixel, unfortunately the highest resolution allows for recording a movie (as distinguished from video chatting) is 640x480. I don't know the reason for this, but it seems to be exclusively to limit users of lower-priced cameras. The software also has some extras, such as the ability to use "filters" that create effects on the image for when you're chatting or recording video. These are pretty useless, but I suppose they're free so there's no sense in complaining. Advanced features like the ability to have avatars instead of your face, or to add digital accessories to your image are limited to the higher-end cameras and can not be used on this device.

The picture quality goes from good (not great) to horrible based, as near as I can tell, on the lighting. With good light, the image does not lag much or get blurry, and it is perfectly adequate for video chatting. As the lighting decreases, so does the image quality, to the point of being almost unusable. If you don't have good lighting in the room where you expect to be using this camera, you're going to have to get a light source or you'll be sorely disappointed with the quality of this camera.

As for the audio quality of the microphone, I've been pretty impressed. The software allows configuration of the microphone, which is very nice - you don't feel like you need to shout to be heard, and conversations are very natural.

Overall it's a decent cam, but it's worth spending the extra money for better equipment if you're serious about either recording anything (i.e. YouTube monologues or video mail) or making sure that your friends get the best picture of you when you cam.
