(More customer reviews)The description for this product says "Full kit includes drive cables, installation and management software, and illustrated instructions".All I got was an OEM drive... just the drive with no cable, rails, software, instructions or anything else.I don't know if an underpaid stockboy just screwed up or what, but everyone should be aware.

I'm keeping it because I just wanted the bare drive anyway, but I wanted to warn others who might be counting on the additional items.

The Western Digital Caviar SE hard drive gives you 250 GB of storage in a package that is quiet, fast, and runs cooler than most hard drives on the market. Even at a rotational speed of 7,200 RPM the drive can maintain low operating temperatures and low power consumption. The 8 MB buffer also provides high performance caching for faster speeds and improved system functions.
This hard drive is as quiet as it is fast, with noise minimized to levels nearly below the human hearing threshold using WhisperDrive technology. (More customer reviews)Very happy I bought this product. Have added another hard drive to my systems only occasionally over the years (starting with the old XT) so experience is limited, but can state without reservation that the Seagate is wonderful.

You may be able to find an EIDE drive cheaper, but I wanted to try the SATA. Be sure your computer will support it.

The Seagate DiscWizard software makes the process a breeze. The warranty and quietness of the drive are nice pluses.

(More customer reviews)It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Seagate drive; great performance and a five year warranty make this hard to beat, and the price is right.Other than that, there's not much you can say about a hard drive... most of the time you don't care about it, until it crashes!That's why it makes sense to go for the best quality drive you can find, and that would be the Seagate.

While the drive comes with software to migrate your old operating system to the new drive, be warned that it's hard to get a clean migration.I tried this twice, and some things kept getting scrambled in the registry.I finally decided to just reload the operating system from scratch and copy the data files over (made the new drive the master, and the old drive the slave; the documentation explains how to do this, it's easy).A fresh installation is probably for the best anyway, as registries tend to get gunked up over time.Keep in mind that your operating system installation CD may not recognize the full 160GB (my older WinXP Pro CD only saw the first 131GB, until I loaded SP2 later), so you may wind up with a second partition.But that's not a big deal, it's still a great drive, and my system is noticeably faster now.
