(More customer reviews)Quite simply, it doesn't. It is a simple cable. Either it works, or it doesn't. It worked for me, but the seller I bought it from wound it poorly and it took me a long time to fix the error. Be careful of buying cables that are twisted -- they can get pinched in the process of unwinding them. There is a RIGHT way and a WRONG way to spool cable or wind it up (even just using your arm) and you need to know the difference between the two if you are intending on not damaging your cable.

The long and short:

The cable was long, and worked.

The short: Buyer beware.

(More customer reviews)If you're looking for an affordable gigabit switch that doesn't suffer from strange auto-negotiation (speed/duplex) problems, this switch is for you.

This product is easily superior to the Netgear GS605, which may appearidentical in functionality, but in actuality is not.The GS605 behaves very badly when it comes to speed and duplex auto-negotiation, resulting in incorrect speed being negotiated with Marvell, some nVidia, and some Broadcom PHYs.The GS105 does not suffer from these problems, proving the hardware in the GS105 differs from that of the GS605.

The GS105 also has an incredibly small AC adapter; it's no where near "brick" size.However, on a power strip that has AC outlets next to one another (horizontal, not vertical), this product will probably block the AC outlet next to the one you install it in.This won't happen with vertically-oriented power strips.Just a FYI...

The reason I ranked this product 4/5 stars is because of temperature -- the GS105 runs incredibly warm (borderline hot) for such a small device.Other users have reported the same issue.It's a minor drawback, but is worth noting for others who may wonder the same question.

If the temperature is a big concern, consider purchasing a Hawking Technologies HGS5T, which is identical in functionality to this product, runs much cooler, but has a larger footprint, and a "brick" AC adapter.

(More customer reviews)My first impression is "this is such a cheapo lookin' card, but for the price, I guess I can give it a try"...Boy, was I wrong or what?The installation is so easy, it took 2 minutes and 40 seconds, including opening and closing the computer cover, and software driver.The card's performance is second to none, far exceeds my Linksys and Netgear, even Intel cards.Ever since, I've buying this particular card for my home and professional networking use, and it never failed me.
I know some people gets uncomfortable when they see a "ancient floppy disk" for storing driver.But darn it, it works great.And what's amazing about D-Link, is that they always seem to include the latest driver in their packaging.I have bought over 60 of these cards, and the driver date is just barely 2 - 3 months old on every purchase.Consider Linksys, their drivers are at least 1 year old.To top it off, Windows 2000 and ME has build-in drivers for this card, and the floppy isn't even needed.
Overall, this is a good performing card at a wonderful price.They use the SAME chipset (stamped with their own name) that other competitors use as well, but they did it much less expensive... Definitely +++!
