(More customer reviews)Honestly, I bought the Plantronics S12 for the looks and for the price.Now that I am using it, I have discovered that it is much better than the higher priced units that are being used around my office.

On the left hand side of the unit there is a sliding switch so that you can modulate the headset to your telephone.This worked for me out of the box. Depending on your telephone, you may have some hiss on the line, but I have none.

On the right hand side there is a switch to set the microphone between high and low gain, and there is a dial to fine tune it within each of the settings.Out of the box, I sounded very loud in the ear piece and people could hear me typing.I set it to low gain, and moved the dial to the lowest setting. People can still hear me fine, I cannot hear myself in the speaker, and no one can hear me typing.This is fantastic!My previous headset could not turn down the gain this low, now I can use the mute button less!

The headset flashes a red light when you are on the phone. People will now know that they can interrupt even if you have your headset on, they just need to check for the flashing light.There will be a learning curve for this in my office, but it is a great idea.

And finally, the amplifier bas has a holder for the headset, a simple but wonderful idea that does not work so well with the over the head configuration, but it still works.

The only problem is that the Plantronics S12 has no battery backup.But if the power is out at the office, there is only so much you can do on the phone anyway and you don't need a headset then since you cannot type on your computer anyway.

Sennheiser BW 900 Lightweight Wireless Bluetooth Headset for Phone/Mobile Review

(More customer reviews)This unit has some features that are superior to others I looked at.

1)The size.
The mouth piece is actually near to your mouth. I am able to talk at a normal volume and the sound level and quality of sound on the other is great. I have had other head sets with a smaller foot print where this is not the case at all. Even though this headset is not ugly is does not have the 'cool' factor that some of the smaller sets semm to go after. If function is more important to you than form, this is your headset.

2)Works with both the office phone and cell phone.
And does a great job with both. I still have to stop and concentrate when I move from one phone to the other but I'm getting near the end of the learning curve. I LOVE eliminating one device. I spend 30-40% of my week out of the office. Wireless in the office is so helpful no closeing the headset wire in drawers or getting it burried under files. With its extened range any multi tasker will increase their productivity.

3) Comfort
The head set is very comfortable. For me to say that is rare. I have never been able to stand "ear buds". Any head set that offers interchangeable earpieces has not used my ear for the mold. This speaker rests against not in your ear and works beautifully. I actually do forget I have it on.

4)Desktop charging ststion.
I handle lot of files & misc projects on my desk. I've destroyed at least 4 wired headsets. When looking for a wireless hesd set, most seem to hae a weak footprint, that I know would always be subject to being knocked over. The Sennheiser is completely stable. This part of the unit has an "office cool" factor to it. It looks, functions and feels like quality

For any one in business the productivity enhansement of this headset justifies the price.

Misc. The noise cancellation feature works great. I have been driving and had the person on the other end of the call asked if I wase still there because of the slience. I never set up the voice dialing feature on my cell phone. When I paired the Bw900 it woke up the feature and I use it all the time now. My previous Jabra headset did not do this. Battery life is better than my cell phone. Never the less I plan to order a apare battery because I would hate to be with out this head set after a day in the field because of the battery and the base station has a charging slot for the spare.

(More customer reviews)Most computer microphones are plugged into your existing sound card.Though the card can certainly improve reception, it can also cause signal degradation by picking up internal and external electronic noise.As a result, voice recognition software sometimes labors to understand precisely what you mean.
With this USB device, though, there's no sound card involved. It automatically records your voice in digital sound as you speak, rather than running your voice through a board where additional noise can be picked up. In fact, so good is the Telex M-560, that it actually tanks if you try to record in anything less than CD quality.
Unsurprisingly, recordings are therefore crystal clear for multimedia work, and voice recognition software obviously responds better to it than non-USB mikes.Like a boom on a movie sound set, it can be put well out of the way and still pick up brilliant sound.Because of its unique directional technology which cancels background noise, you can use it at a distance of up to two feet and still have superb results with voice recognition software. I've got mine on top of my monitor and I never have to readjust its position. And, because it's USB, I can easily share it between Mac and Wintel machines.
The only problem I can think of with this thing is that it doesn't work under Windows 95.Telex hasn't made drivers to support that legacy platform, and they don't appear to have an interest in doing so.Their primary target audience is quite clearly people with newer machines, and Telex makes no apologies for it.After all, most voice recognition software requires faster processors to run effectively, and those machines would typically be running at least Windows 98, anyway.
That proviso aside, I love this microphone.No, it's not quite as good as the results you'll get from inside a recording studio.But for the money, it's close enough for me.

Note that the speakerphone uses AA batteries, not an AC adaptor. Phone does NOT need batteries to work as basic phone. Recommended, but only appears to be sold online.

Logitech H165 Notebook Headset Review

(More customer reviews)This is the first headset I've used with earbuds and an inline mic.I usually wear earbud headphones while working at my desk, and I thought these would make sense for regularly listening to music plus occasionally making Skype calls.In a pinch, they will certainly do that, but the design is flawed enough that I wouldn't really recommend them to others.

The in-ear canal-design is weird and not my first choice. I switched to the smallest sized ear plug included in the box, so I'm glad Logitech gave me a choice.But I feel like my ear canals must be slightly different sizes as one fits well and the other falls out often.But I knew that was the design ahead of time, so I can't fault Logitech for my choosing them.

It's the inline mic that works poorly.The microphone hole is on one side of the inline housing, and the cord seems to always want to rotate the mic side away from my face, making the volume of my voice quite low when compared to some other headsets with regular boom mics.Logitech should have put the mic on the top, so it would always point toward the person's face no matter which direction the cord rotated.

The other annoying part is that the mute switch is in the same housing right next to the microphone, and it makes a loud click when used, so it's very obvious to the people on the call that the mute switch is being flipped.This also puts the mute switch right at mouth level where the mic is fixed, about 3 inches down the cord below the right earbud, which is impossible to see without squashing your chin down into your chest and/or pulling the cord out in front of your face.This means you can't easily check whether it's muted, and if you want to mute without looking away you end up fumbling your fingers around on the microphone, which produces annoying sounds on the call. Logitech should separate the mic from the mute switch so both can be placed at their own optimal positions, and the mic can be muted without an audible click on the audio.

There is a lapel clip included which may have been intended to help mitigate the mic rotation problem, but the clip itself is weird because it doesn't hold the cord securely and so it all just slides around.The clip does marginally help stop the earbud from being pulled out of your ear if the cable is tugged.There is also a barrel shaped bit of plastic fixed on the cord near the jacks, which the manual states is a place to stick the plug when not in use.But it only has room for one plug, not both, which leaves the other jack hanging and thus seems to kind of defeat the purpose. Maybe I'm missing the point?

In conclusion, if you actually want a headset to actually use with Skype, I think you just have to bite the bullet and use a headset with a regular boom mic, even though it might be dorky looking.

Last note: this headset is not compatible with Mac hardware, and neither are any others that use stereo jacks.Macs don't have microphone jacks as many other PCs do, they only have line-in jacks which don't supply the right amount of power.I found out the hard way and had to order a USB adapter to make it work on my 2009 iMac.Believe me Mac users, don't waste your time, you have no choice but to use a headset with a USB plug, or else a USB sound card as an adapter.The box states "Works with Windows" only, although Amazon doesn't make any mention one way or the other.
