Cables Unlimited USB-2110 USB 2.0 to IDE and SATA Adapter Cable with Power Review

Cables Unlimited USB-2110 USB 2.0 to IDE and SATA Adapter Cable with Power

First of all, i'm an I/T geek and i've used several of these adapters. This one works well but has a couple flaws:

CON's:
1) It comes with no instructions or spec's, which are necessary because of #2 ...
2) This device will not work if you connect it to a laptop running on battery power. I connected this device to my laptop's USB port. All three SATA drives were recognized but failed to be accessed until my I/T "spider-sense" tingled & I connected my laptop's A/C adapter. Now all of the drives are accessible.

Most users are not professional I/T geeks and would not be aware of this- they'd erroneously think the adapter was defective and likely return it.

PRO's:
So, as long as you connect this device to a desktop or laptop on A/C power, it'll work fine. One thing i particularly liked is the SATA power adapter cable is short, sturdy, and is shaped at a right to "idiot proofs" it from naive users who would otherwise yank it straight out by the (fragile) wires and not by the end piece.

I give it 4 stars.

Startech USB 2.0 to SATA IDE Adapter Review

Startech USB 2.0 to SATA IDE Adapter

We use these in our Tech Dept a lot. They are great for testing multiple types of hard-disk drives. Also, if you have some spare/old hard-disk drives lying around, it is a handy way to turn those drives into external backup drives.A few on our staff even have these at home to use in this manner, rather than spending money on a pre-packaged external hard-disk drive in an enclosure. There are some similar units to this out there on the market. We like the Startech as it is a little more compact, choosing to integrate the power connectors. But you have to be attentive to making sure you flip the switch on the connector to power on your device. While I wouldn't think that is such a big deal, I've seen some users get a little befuddled about that. And you don't even need the power connector when working with 2.5" IDE laptop hard-disk drives, as they will be powered via the USB port.

USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable Adapter For 2.5 3.5 HDD Review

USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Cable Adapter For 2.5 3.5 HDD

The USB to SATA/IDE adapter is very useful when you need to transfer data on the fly. It is cheap, I paid less than $10 with S&H. AS other had mentioned, the adapter is for temporary use only. It is not made to be left connected permanently as an external device. The quality is good, but it could be better. Upon receiving the adapter I gave it a try and I was able to read from 4 different drives (80MB SATA, 250MB IDE, 10MB IDE, and 40MB IDE). Here are some tips when using the adapter, First)Connect the SATA/IDE adapter and power cable to the Hard drive. Second)Connect the power cord to the outlet. Let the drive spin 20-30 Seconds before connecting the USB cable to the PC. Third)Connect USB cable to PC. After connecting the USB cable be patient. Sometimes it took up to a minute for Windows Vista to let me know that a new USB devise was found. I had problem with the second Drive I tried because I think I did the connections too fast. I retried a second time and it worked fine.

Cables To Go 26686 USB A Male to A Female Extension Cable, White (3 Meters/9.84 Feet) Review

Not much to say about this cable except that it works and is reasonably priced. One end is a USB plug, the other a USB port-like connector, which allows you to plug things into your computer's USB port from a distance of a few feet.I was just looking for a cheap cable that would let me plug a Flip Video camera into my laptop (I figured I was bound to break that side-arm off the camera eventually if I kept plugging it directly into the USB port...no doubt I'd forget about it as I was moving the computer around).Anyway, it works fine for my purposes.

Addonics ADIDESA 150 Mbps IDE to Serial ATA Converter Review

Addonics ADIDESA 150 Mbps IDE to Serial ATA Converter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I installed the card in less than five minutes on the back of my IDE ATA hard drive and used all the cables that came with it and BINGO it converted it to a Serial ATA Drive.
When I got my new Dell desktop, I could not use my new 250BG IDE ATA hard drive because I did not have any IDE ATA sockets available.
Dell recommended using an IDE to SATA converter.
WHAT A GREAT card!!!
