(More customer reviews)I bought this 320 GB Seagate drive to replace a failed OEM 40 GB Seagate drive that was original equipment in my Dell Dimension 3000 which was about 3yrs old.The new drive has been running and working without a hitch for about a month now.The Dell BIOS had no trouble recognizing it.I have seen a noticeable speed increase with the 7200 rpm vs the OEM 5400 RPM.Of course I'll need a bigger external drive to back this puppy up. . .eventually. :)

PSATA IDE Ultra ATA 100/133 To SATA Converter Adapter Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted to say that I was able to get this adapter to work in the Intel D865GBF, D865GLC and D875PBZ series of motherboards -- this is the important part to note, this adapter will ONLY work when plugged into the back of an IDE hard drive or DVD/CDROM device! This device is only meant to convert in that direction only. If you try to plug it into a motherboard's 40pin IDE port hoping that it will convert to SATA hard drives or DVD/CDROMs, it will NOT do that! There is a different adapter sold on amazon that has two SATA connectors, one for each direction if you intend to have a bi-directional adapter.

Here are two important TIPs, make sure the connector is plugged in over all 40 IDE pins, I have made the mistake more then once of not centering the plug over all 40 pins and be off by one column and therefore causing it to not work. The second one is probably more crucial, the pins on the back of the board almost butt up and make contact to the hard drives metal case -- which if it does that, it will short circuit the power supply and cause it to blow or short circuit!! What I recommend is that you put some electrical tape on the back side to cover the exposed metal pins so it wont make contact to the hard drive case. Or you can just make sure you dont plug the IDE connector all the way in, leaving a small gap -- but this may prevent the data pins from making full contact if you do this...You can also use non-conductive anti-static foam or bag to create a protective barrier.

(More customer reviews)Like most normal DVD-ROM's this drive does a nice job of playing DVDs at 16x, nothing special there, good seek times, and IBM's high standard for quality projects.However, one other thing this drive does well is read DVD-RAMs at 3x, an uncommon characteristic for many drives.I searched high and low for a DVD-RAM drive with a high read rate, and in some cases any drive that would read DVD-RAM.This was one of the few that I found that was above 1x, most are 1x or 2x and cost an arm and a leg, mainly due to the fact that they are recorders as well.
Now, most people don't care about reading DVD-RAM, but I found that it was extremely important if I wanted to transfer information off my Panasonic DVR-HS2, then transfer it to my computer for futher editing and burning to my multiplatform 4X drive.
The problem is the Panasonic DVR-HS2 will only record DVDs onto -R at 1x, and RAM at 3x. This means that if you have 20 hours of VHS to back up onto your DVR-HS2 harddrive, it will take you another 20 hours to burn it and a ton of DVD-R.But if you use the DVD-RAM option you can burn all of the info off in a third of the time, and you only need to use 1, that you can write over 1,000 of times.Once you get the info on the DVD-RAM then you can let the IBM drive read it into your computer, super fast, and transfer the information about anyway you would like.
The DVD-RAM option is probably not big to a lot of people, but for those who do possess a Panasonic DVR, or any other stand-alone DVR,it is a very wise option to have for your PC.

StarTech USB to SATA IDE Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5in or 3.5in HDD UNIDOCK2U Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this docking station to use my old 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. I also had a requirement to recover my old crashed IDE hard disk. I need to try my hands on that(IDE recovery) to see whether it works!!!

The product arrive on time and was intact. The product includes power cords for US, UK and Europe. I plugged this docking station into my laptop running vista. The product was installed automatically as Vista has built-in drivers for it. I haven't tried this on Linux / Mac. But it should work (as the manufacturer claims that it does).

As soon as I docked my 2.5" SATA hard drive it was recognized and the partitions of hard drive appeared in "My Computer". I haven't bench marked the data transfer speeds but it is decent enough.

The docking station is a bit bulky, so the 4 stars!!! Overall I would recommend this product for anybody who want to use their old hard drives(SATA and IDE both) as spare drives for backup and restore. This can also be used if you are replacing your hard drives on your PC or if you are migrating from IDE to SATA.

The product doesn't include the IDE connectors and LP4 power cords. So 4 stars for that as well!!!

No problems unless one goes to hot-plugging in and out with the drives. I use the external SATA hook-up when I want to watch a blu-ray movie on an int/ext LG drive. The LG is a SATA interface. (More customer reviews)The USB to SATA/IDE adapter is very useful when you need to transfer data on the fly. It is cheap, I paid less than $10 with S&H. AS other had mentioned, the adapter is for temporary use only. It is not made to be left connected permanently as an external device. The quality is good, but it could be better. Upon receiving the adapter I gave it a try and I was able to read from 4 different drives (80MB SATA, 250MB IDE, 10MB IDE, and 40MB IDE). Here are some tips when using the adapter, First)Connect the SATA/IDE adapter and power cable to the Hard drive. Second)Connect the power cord to the outlet. Let the drive spin 20-30 Seconds before connecting the USB cable to the PC. Third)Connect USB cable to PC. After connecting the USB cable be patient. Sometimes it took up to a minute for Windows Vista to let me know that a new USB devise was found. I had problem with the second Drive I tried because I think I did the connections too fast. I retried a second time and it worked fine.
