OCZ Gold GX Edition 2 GB (2 x 1 GB) 240-PIN DDR2 PC2-6400 Memory Kit Review

I bought 4 GB of this memory for my new Intel DP35DP mainboard, together with an Intel Core 2 quad processor Q6600. As I thought my new board supports 800 Mhz memory I did not investigate further. That was not a good idea as I noticed after installing the new 4 GB of OCZ memory. My PC ran for about 3 hours and then it shut down and never came up again. I could not even enter into the BIOS setup, I was pretty scared that something burned out.

After doing some research in the Internet I found out that my Intel board does support only 1.8 volt memory but the OCZ memory requires at least 1.9 volt (but it is specified for 2.1 Volt, so if the mainboard supplies 2.1 Volt would be better).

I removed the memory and tested it with an ASUS A5K Deluxe board, with this board the memory runs just fine.

Resuming it's a good memory but not for all motherboards. It seems that Intel boards in general do not support voltages over 1.8 (at least as what I found out). If you own an Intel board, don't buy this memory.

There's not much to say about RAM - sure you could get micro-technical, but for most people the stick works, or it doesn't.

I bought this for an Asus 1000HE to upgrade it from the stock 1GB RAM to 2GB, and it works fine.As others have said, some netbooks can get finicky with RAM selection, so I thought adding my experience to the list may well help others relax and order it for their EEEPC.

I did NOT have to make changes at the BIOS level (though I'd recommend entering the bios as I did to make sure that it's recognized properly), and the stick is seen as 2GB in the boot screen, Windows XP, and Windows 7 (which I installed on a second partition).

Buy it, use it, forget it.It works.
