It's a good board. Runs a little on the warm side but effective and cheap. I didn't have any issues installing. The way it was packaged sucked! It must be an OEM board because it didn't come in a retail box, they stuck it in an anti static bag and placed it on top of the rest of my order with no packing in between! Needless to say the logistics company stacked other boxes on top of it and crushed the board. It still ran though. I'm surprised it still ran, but it did. Other than that, no issues.

***Update*** The board died 3 months later. Wouldn't power on. Can't say I'm surprised. I know that I should have sent it back to Amazon after seeing how it was packaged in the box but I was too lazy to deal with the issue. Now I'm buying a different board and loosing 100 bucks in the process. Oh well.

This processor is a huge step up from my 7 year old computer. While I'm very happy with my purchase, the Intel Core i7's seem like a better choice once you get into the above $200 price point.

For me, the quad core did turn out to be a much better choice than the dual core processors as I concurrently run several cpu intensive tasks at any given time. With the Q9300, nothing seems to really bog it down. Both Vista 64 and Windows 7 (beta 64) work great.

It came preinstalled in my Dell E1505. It works virtually in every Wi-Fi you might find. I tested it in 802.11n 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies and works great.

Important: Make sure you get the latest drivers. When I purchased the computer back on February 2007, I had to disable the 802.11n and use 802.11g because the technology was new and the compatibility with my Airport Extreme was bad. Eventually, both the router and the Intel card got firmware updates and worked just fine.

I recently started to actually review stuff. I've been looking more and more at reviews when making purchases. So, tell folks what you think about stuff. Now on to this board. Great board for 775 socket, DDR2 ram. Their software interact directly with the bios. You can actually overclock from the desktop. I still went old school, but you can do it that way too. I stuffed a fairly meaty DDR5 vid card into it, flawless. Oced the ram just a bit, no problems. Got more than a gig extra out of cpu, no problem. In fact, no problems with anything. It's just a great board, with all sorts of extras.

Asus's tech support seem to be a combination of Shaggy, and Gilligan...so hopefully you won't have to disguise a coconut cream pie as a scooby snack to get them to try to answer a question. I asked two different guys the same question. One actually said, "unplug it (from the wall), and wait. Then plug it back in". Thanks Gillaggy, but those changes are kinda what the battery on the CMOS prevents. Pretty colors, and warm fuzzy sounds are great for group therapy, but not tech support. This was my second go around with Asus's 'tech support'. Should have known better.

When my power supply blew I thought I would take the chance to re-seat my heatsink as well.
I installed it several years ago using an older type of arctic silver and I noticed temps were running much too high. I assume the older stuff hardened and then the heatsink was nudged and wasn't making a good connection anymore.
Re-seating it with this compound lowered temps significantly and it seems to be high quality stuff.

Leaving a review here mostly because I see two 1 star reviews because of poor customer service, and nothing with the product itself. For the record, I did order from ANTOnline and was told the item was "in stock."After a week the drive had not shipped, I sent an email asking for a status and was told the item had not yet shipped from the supplier.ANTOnline should be avoided, possibly banned from Amazon, since they are actively misleading customers with "in stock".(I canceled my order and placed the order through NewEgg). The version of this drive I have is after the initial batch, which has a bug with setting a password lock on the drive.

My first SSD is in my Dell 1330M XPS laptop. No only has it proven to make a large impact on battery life (I don't even bother plugging in the laptop when given presentations that run from an hour to 90 minutes), it has made a huge impact on application speed.I've had developers approach me after a presentation and ask me about the specs of my laptop because compiling code in my demos was very fast (Visual Studio 2008).

I've put this Intel SSD in a new desktop system, along with an iCore7 and 12 GB of RAM.Windows 7 scores the drive at a 7.8 (7.9 is the max as of this writing). In addition to very fast code compiling, a podcast I produce has gone from taking an hour to edit (mostly waiting on audio plugins to do their thing) to 10 minutes.

If you only use a PC to surf the net, send email, and play farm games on FaceBook, you have no need for this drive. You also probably aren't reading this review, so I can assume you do use the PC for more than websites. If you do any work with video or audio this drive is a must have - the time it saves will pay for itself. If you develop software, this drive is highly recommended if you can afford it - it will improve your compilers speed but how important that is varies by the type of software you write.I can say that doing game development, with may graphic and model assets to compile, this drive has been amazing.

I have not tried other SSD drives, so this is just me citing the research done by others such as Tom's Hardware and Anatech.Much of the speed of the SSD comes from it's controller and how well that controller decides where to write data. The PC spends most of the time reading and writing small bits of random data, and most SSD specs are listing continuous read / write speeds. How well the controller can play traffic cop will be the key in real world performance. When deciding to go Intel vs. another (cheaper) name, consider how much time and effort you are willing to spend on trouble shooting issues.I'm not saying the others have issues, just that the chance is greater because this is new tech and smaller companies can't test their products as extensively as Intel.

To summarize, as Ferris said, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking out up."

Product Description:
The future of computer storage is here! The Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive (Retail) provides faster disk performance and greater durability than traditional hard drives. Since it stores data using NAND flash memory instead of spinning platters, the X25-M will never keep you waiting for disks to spin up. For further convenience, there are no moving parts to worry about breaking down.
X25-M Solid State Drive (Retail) features:

160 GB of solid state storage.
No moving parts for better reliability and performance.
    Silent operation.
Lower battery consumption than traditional drives.

With no moving parts, the X25-M Solid State Drive provides silent and reliable storage. View larger.

The Intel SSD Toolbox lets you easily optimize the performance of your drive. View larger.
A New Kind of Storage for Faster Data Access
The X25-M is a SATA II hard drive with a capacity of 160 GB. Additionally, it's in a 2.5-inch form factor that will work anywhere a regular 2.5-inch hard drive does, such as in notebook computers and external enclosures.

But don't think that the X25-M is any old drive. Instead of using spinning platters like traditional hard drives, the X25-M is a Solid State Drive (SSD), and it uses flash memory for storage, giving you dramatically faster data access. If you need less disk space, the X25-M also comes in a 80 GB version.

Performs Faster than Other Solid State Drives
Intel has been making memory chips for decades, and the company's experience is clearly displayed with the X25-M drive, which uses Intel's Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND Flash Memory. This delivers better performance than other SSDs, thanks to an advanced architecture and technologies such as Native Command Queuing, which enables up to 32 simultaneous operations. The result is sustained sequential read speeds of up to 250 MBps, sustained sequential write speeds of up to 70 MBps, and a read latency of just 85 microseconds.

And thanks to the drive's SATA interface that offers data throughput of up to 3.0 Gbps, you can take advantage of all that speed. What all this means for you is that applications launch instantaneously, files copy in less time, and your overall productivity is increased.

Optimize Performance with the Intel SSD Toolbox
Intel offers the Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer, so you can easily optimize and manage the performance of your drive. Simply download the Intel SSD Toolbox and you'll get a powerful set of management, information, and diagnostic tools to help you maintain performance at "fresh out-of-the-box" levels. The Intel SSD Toolbox with Intel SSD Optimizer is specially designed to run on Microsoft Windows 7, and it also works with Microsoft Windows Vista and XP.

Higher Reliability and Silent Operation
Compared to traditional hard drives, the X25-M is both faster and more durable. Because it doesn't have spinning disks or writing heads, there are fewer parts to fail. It is also less susceptible to vibration and shock and is completely silent. Providing superb reliability, the X25-M is rated at 1.2 million hours mean time before failure (MTBF).

Lower Power Consumption is Good for the Environment
The X25-M also consumes far less power than traditional drives, which saves you money and makes this drive an environmentally friendly choice. The drive is certified RoHS compliant for its use of non-hazardous materials. Additionally, when it's installed in a laptop, the X25-M will give you better battery life, which means you can work longer on cross-country plane trips.

The Intel X25-M Mainstream SATA II Solid State Drive supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology (SMART) commands, as well as additional SSD monitoring.

The X25-M is backed by a three-year limited warranty.

What's in the Box
Intel X25-M Solid State Drive (SSD), manual, sticker and 3.5" desktop drive bay adapter, screws and installation guide.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775 Review

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad-Core Processor, 2.40 GHz, 8M L2 Cache, LGA 775
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did not purchase my G0 Q6600 from Amazon. Back in late October, 2007 the G0's were scarce, so I went with a vendor who guaranteed that I would get one (versus the distinct possibility of getting the older "B3" version of the processor with most other vendors, including Amazon).

For the uninitiated, the usefulness of a quad-core CPU versus the more ubiquitous (and less expensive) dual-core version is dubious for most desktop users. Most applications are not multi-threaded and therefore are not able to make use of the extra CPU cores packed onto the Q6600. Your operating system (Windows, Apple OSX, Linux, etc) can, to some extent, "balance" (sometimes) different tasks between cores, in which case a multi-core CPU can yield noticeable advantages.

However, many software developers are adding "multi-thread" capability to future versions of their applications to take advantage of the new processors. Therefore, at this moment, a quad-core CPU is the best bet for "future-proofing" your computer (if there is such a thing), and Intel is the leader of the pack -- by a wide margin (substantiated by every review on the planet).

Why the Q6600?

For starters, the price/performance ratio of the Q6600 is nothing short of remarkable. This processor has single-handedly given the average desktop user high-end, workstation-caliber performance for a price that is simply unimaginable. The Q6600's dual-core sibling, the E6600, is only a few dollars less expensive. The Q6600 is essentially TWO Intel E6600 processors, for only a few dollars more. It's a no-brainer, especially since the Q6600 will run on most of the same motherboards that support the E6600.

Second, the Q6600 (especially the newer G0 model) can be easily overclocked to a speed that rivals or exceeds Intel's latest flagship $1000+ quad-core "Extreme" processors (as-of this writing). With just 60 seconds in the motherboard BIOS, my Q6600 is running at 3.2GHz, air-cooled (ie: heatsink and fan), at all stock voltages and RAM FSB (800MHz). Only the CPU is actually overclocked (using a GA-P35-DSR3 motherboard) again, at stock Vcore (1.3v). It is rock-solid stable (Prime95 "Torture Test" for 24 hours) and the four cores never exceed 50C (SpeedFan, corrected) under load and run at 20-30C idle. I have run it at a fully-stable 3.6GHz, but prefer the cooler temps that 3.2GHz operates at. I am reasonably certain that I could get to 4GHz if I wanted to move to water cooling, though I haven't experienced any lust for more power with the current setup (a first in my computing life).

I run 8GB (4x2GB) of Patriot Extreme Performance DDR2-800 RAM (at stock Bus and VLU) and an EVGA 8800GTX-OC GPU and this is the fastest desktop computer I have ever used (Windows Vista Ultimate x64).

I am NOT a gamer. I've never played a game on this computer. I do use Photoshop CS3, Lightroom, InDesign CS3, Illustrator CS3, Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro CS3, AfterEffects CS3, and a number of other CPU-intensive (and multi-threaded) applications. I can process PARs, rip RARs, convert x264 HD video, download NNTP, and write this review all at the same time, all without ANY noticeable slow-down or system "sluggishness." This processor has single-handedly ushered in a new era of personal computing productivity I never would have believed possible.

Behold, the power of four cores!

I bought this more as an experiment to see if the new Atom dual-core motherboard with the GMA3150 IGP could handle everyday tasks as a nettop like surfing the net, watching Youtube videos, checking email and running productivity software. I really want to start scaling back the power requirements of the PCs in our house, especially given their usage as either nettops or file servers. The kids will be needing new PCs soon for homework and something "green" is my preference as long as it's powerful enough and this board seems to fit the bill. I also wanted to use some of the parts I had lying around like the HDD and ODD. With that, I am very happy with what I was able to build for under $200. It's definitely faster -- much faster -- than the Dell 9300 laptop it's going to replace as the family PC.The lowest WEI value was 2.0 for Gaming/Business graphics. That is a non-issue since that is not what this is going to be used for.

This is a very good value for a processor, motherboard and IGP combination. It's also very efficient which is going to help with the electricity bill and carbon footprint of the household. Surprisingly, it's very responsive and I have no trouble doing the tasks I expected to be able to do like surf the 'net, play music, upload/view photos and use OpenOffice under Windows 7 Home Premium.

However, for maybe $30 more upfront I could have purchased a more powerful CPU/ITX motherboard combination like an E3300/DG41AN that would have performed much better. Of course, the power draw would have been a lot higher. You definitely pay a premium for newer more efficient technology. The CPU is also not passively cooled and the little fan is definitely audible, especially in the cheap case I put it in. If it had been passively cooled or the CPU fan had been silent I would have given it 5 stars easily. So far it's done everything I've asked it to knowing though I am not going to be watching HD video on this. The upcoming Intel D525MW board looks to be passively cooled but it's not available yet. That one is worth watching and might be a better nettop board for a silent build.I can see using this one with the 4 SATA ports in a home server/NAS build instead. It looks like it would be perfect for that, especially with Gigabyte's "UD" construction.

Build:
Athenatech A1089HG.150 case
Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR 1066 KVR1066D3/2GR RAM
Western Digital 400GB WD4000AAKS HDD
Lite-On IDE DVD/CD burner
Rosewill RNX-N250PC 802.11 b/g/n PCI wireless adapter
Windows 7 Home Premium

This memory was inexpensive in comparison to the same Corsair memory. About half the price. I couldn't get it to go above 1066MHz. I have an evga X58 motherboard. I'm not blaming the memory but I don't think the Corsair would have had the same problem. Obviously I'm a Corsair fan. But I can't pass up a bargain either.

Well I suppose this is a good board and Amazon was very quick in replacing it, but out of the box I was unable to enter bios. I was able to update to the latest version no problem and boot into windows vista fine but when pressing F2 all I would get was a blank black screen andI would have to reset. Strange problem, I know. There is one more problem and it's that my computer restarts at random, All parts are brand new and for my sanity sake I hope that is related to the motherboard as well.
Update: Setting OCZ memory voltage to 1.9 fixed the restarting problem, Thanks. It will be a few months before I get a chance to work on the bios problem. In the mean time if anyone else has same problem and comes up with a fix please write review.

I was looking for a mobo to hold the components of my new i7 system. This is the best bang for the buck mobo you can get. Lots of ports (the usual USBs, Firewire, Ethernet, 7.1 audio HD plus an external e-sata), nice built in audio. Very easy to install: I've never built a computer by myself before and was able to do it without any problem, just using the included manual. No problems installing the CPU and CPU stock cooler. Runs great now, using Vista Ultimate x64, Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 8M L3 Cache 4.8GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Processor, OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 6GB Platinum XTC Triple Channel Kits, BFG BFGEGTX2851024OC2E NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 OC2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card.

Really, I did a lot of research, and if you are considering moving to Intel i7 (x58 architecture), this is the one that gives you the best bang for the buck.
