this is a great procesor, runs incredibly fast and can be overclocked at 3.5Ghz just by changing the multiplier. The best thing of this procesor is that if u have the right motherboard (i uses a GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P to unlock it)u can unlock the other 2 cores and instantly get an Phenom II 950 BE

Asus M4A785TD-V Motherboard Review

Asus M4A785TD-V Motherboard
Average Reviews:

I primarily purchased this board to unlock certain cpu cores. The board pretty much has everything needed for a HTPC with hi-def audio and video through HDMI. I probably should have bought a different model without the on-board video as I am not taking advantage of it. If you pair this board with an ATI HD 3450($20 video card), you can crossfire with the on-board video memory and it actually performs 2x on light gaming for an extra $20.

Reason for 4 stars:
-I did not give this product a full 5 stars due to the documentation. It was not helpful in customizing and setting up the system. Through several days of researching, a couple of people mentioned there was a misprint in the manual for the RAM slots. Stick with the assigned color slots on the board instead of the manual when installing RAM modules.
-I still use a PS/2 keyboard and the numlock LED never shuts off after a complete shutdown. I couldn't find any answers regarding this except that there is power running to the motherboard even if it is shut down. One has to be concerned if it will be damaged during a power surge/outage.
-Not really why I gave it 4 stars but the RAM slots are so close to the CPU. I installed an aftermarket heatsink(Arctic Freezer Pro 64), which was big, and it covered part of the Black RAM slots. I had to install the RAM first before the heatsink. I also put everything on after I mounted the board to the case. It would be best to install everything before mounting it in the case as I didn't have a lot of room.

Overall, I was able to unlock the 4th core on the Phenom II 720 BE with just a couple of settings. I also overclocked my cpu from 2.8-3.2Ghz on stock volts and the board stays cool around 23C due to the heatsinks. I won't be able to crossfire on the PCI-E but I'm happy with my current configuration.

Pros:
Low cost, silent, has HDMI output.

Cons:
Headache to update the driver from the version on the CD to the latest version from website.I suggest that you do not install the driver from the CD and directly use the latest driver from ATI's website. When upgrading the driver, there can be many install issues (install doesn't run, you need to update .net distributions, etc).

Other thoughts:
I was having issues with popping sounds coming out of the HDMI audio.i was able to fix this problem by following the instructions on this website:

Nice little board. Built well and instruction manual is straight forward. The board does have some limitations as the connections (Sata, RAM, PCI, IDE) are in limited number but for the majority of users this will be just enough but no room for expansion.

The only problem I had with this board and it was quite a pain in the butt was that at first the board would only detect one stick of Ram (didn't matter which slot A or B). As soon as I would put a second stick of RAM in the system wouldn't boot. The fix was to pull the battery out of the motherboard and then at the same time cleared the CMOS memory via the jumper on the motherboard. This took all of 1 min to do. I then placed the battery back in and both sticks of RAM and whola it worked great.

I recently started to actually review stuff. I've been looking more and more at reviews when making purchases. So, tell folks what you think about stuff. Now on to this board. Great board for 775 socket, DDR2 ram. Their software interact directly with the bios. You can actually overclock from the desktop. I still went old school, but you can do it that way too. I stuffed a fairly meaty DDR5 vid card into it, flawless. Oced the ram just a bit, no problems. Got more than a gig extra out of cpu, no problem. In fact, no problems with anything. It's just a great board, with all sorts of extras.

Asus's tech support seem to be a combination of Shaggy, and Gilligan...so hopefully you won't have to disguise a coconut cream pie as a scooby snack to get them to try to answer a question. I asked two different guys the same question. One actually said, "unplug it (from the wall), and wait. Then plug it back in". Thanks Gillaggy, but those changes are kinda what the battery on the CMOS prevents. Pretty colors, and warm fuzzy sounds are great for group therapy, but not tech support. This was my second go around with Asus's 'tech support'. Should have known better.

I bought the Phenom II 940 black edition instead of Intel's I7 primarily because I could get much of the same performance (not all) but for much less.

The Phenom II was easy to overclock and squeeze another 15% performance out of also.

Lastly, because I already had an AM2+ socket motherboard I didn't have to go out and buy either a new motherboard OR new DDR3 memory which would have been the case in going with Intel.

My primary reasoning is that its doubtful I'll regularly utilize even 75-80% of the Quad processing power of this CPU so it is enough for me and overall a great value.

As others have noted this is a quality board. As a several time Asus user, I expect that, but this board is a step above.Chipset heat sink (with fan you can apply if you are setting it up the right way), connectors (SATA, etc) that are in the right spaces for case usage, etc.A few quibbles 1) as I note there is no floppy cable included (even though the board has a floppy connection), 2) (not sure this is Asus' fault, but...) why is there so little space between the PCI connectors for these double slot vid cards? I've got a EVGA 285 that is hogging two slots but is only connected to one.If I had it set up in SLI, I'd only have *1* PCI slot left over.I guess the price you pay for the cool heat sinks around the board.

Still very satisfied with the purchase.

Update 9/9 - wanted to add that I got everything fully functional and for once even the powering down stuff works as it should. A couple of other nits - 1)it is either RAID or straight SATA.This is noted in the forum boards and what not, but is a bit of a pain; and 2) the e-SATA isn't hot plug.

Still very satisfied with the purchase.Runs well you can tweak the heck out of it and it has all the right connections.

Asus U3S6 True USB 3.0 & True SATA 6Gb/s Support Motherboard Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unpacked Asus U3S6 a week ago, after using my Crucial SSD on sata II for a while now since my mobo is Asus Rampage II extreme which doesn't support SATA III naturally, I was overwhelmed to find a product that's affordable and saves me the money of buying a new mobo (300$~) and the time of installing one.

Before you buy this product check if your mobo is supported on manufacturer's website, my rampage ii wasn't listed on the box but after installation it worked for me.

The Reason I gave it 4 stars was the lack of proper instruction, I struggled for 2 days through trial/error until i figured out the following: These are the steps if you want the SSD to have primary OS installed on: (Most likely if you don't follow these steps you will get a blue screen while logging in windows, and keep restarting)

1- Unpack your add-on card.

2- Install the card in a PCIx16 or PCIx4. (DON'T disconnect any old SSD/HDD, or connect anything yet)

3- Turn on your PC. (if you didn't disconnect or connect anything else Windows should start normally)

4- Go to asus website and download the latest driver. (Throw CD from the window)

5- Install the driver, and restart when required. make sure you install both sata and USB controllers before you restart.

6- After installing all the drivers you need, turn off the PC , unplug power cable, open up the case.

7- connect your SSD/HDD containing the Operating system to the SATA1 port on the add-on card. (Mobo will recognize it as SATA0, so don't worry about the sata connected in SATA1 on motherboard chip.

8- turn on your PC, and get into Bios.

9- Look for "Storage Configuration" and change the first drive's name to the OS drive.

10- Go to the boot screen on BIOS and make that drive your first priority.

11- Save and exit, log in windows everything should work now. :)

ASUS G73JH-X3 Laptop Computer
Average Reviews:

I tried a few other laptops under $2,000, and none can compare to the G73jh-series.
The hardware is first class. Wow, Ultra HD & blazing fast frame rates. The cooling is the best I have seen...have yet to over heat running 3D games all day. Two fans in the back, and I add a laptop pad with 2 fans underneath. Hot air shoots out the back of this F-117 stealthly laptop.
The complaints that I have seen about the mouse button & keyboard are not warranted. Asus may have been listening and made a few mods...The keyboard is solid, not spongy like the video I saw. The single mouse button bar is the size of the space bar. It is rather easy to use acually. However, when gaming I think most of us prefere the extensions anyways, and the better models come with blue-tooth. Very nice not to have dongles sticking out.
Asus even gives a few extra option others do not. Even though Windows 7 starts very fast on this machine, it has an option to do a few things under the program (without starting windows7). Such as web surf on an installed browzer that doesn't need windows. Also, picture viewing...oh, and Skype. 2 seconds and you are up and running!! Get the 2MP web cam, not the 1.2MP.
Just remember to look for the 1920x1080 display, it is worth the few extra $$.
Not much bloat-ware either.
This thing does it all. The ATI GPU is fantastic... placed #10 over all...and that is compared to SLI and crossfire config. Simply amazing. This model is in step with Alienware and Sager in bringing you the best configurations for gaming experience.

I was looking for a mobo to hold the components of my new i7 system. This is the best bang for the buck mobo you can get. Lots of ports (the usual USBs, Firewire, Ethernet, 7.1 audio HD plus an external e-sata), nice built in audio. Very easy to install: I've never built a computer by myself before and was able to do it without any problem, just using the included manual. No problems installing the CPU and CPU stock cooler. Runs great now, using Vista Ultimate x64, Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 8M L3 Cache 4.8GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Processor, OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz 6GB Platinum XTC Triple Channel Kits, BFG BFGEGTX2851024OC2E NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 OC2 1GB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 Graphics Card.

Really, I did a lot of research, and if you are considering moving to Intel i7 (x58 architecture), this is the one that gives you the best bang for the buck.

ASUS USB CrossLink Cable Review

ASUS USB CrossLink Cable
Average Reviews:

I am somewhat reluctant to fault a product that may work perfectly for everyone else. However this thing is advertised to be painless, but apparently not so for me.

I have a new Win7 ASUS netbook which I intended to bring in a few things from a laptop (Vista) as well as the ability to copy straight from the laptop optical drive etc. While there are many other ways to accomplish this, I thought this seemed a pretty simple solution to load and maintain the netbook. After several joyless hours, I have given up. I will simply use flash memory, an external hard drive, etc. to transfer the files I want.

I simply wasn't able to get the two computers to recognize each other no matter what I tried. There doesn't seem to be any "troubleshooting" hints included with the product, (in the event that things didn't go so well).

Hopefully somebody has had a better experience and can give a better review because it certainly seems like a worthwhile product.

ETA March 19, 2010.... After stumbling onto a button tucked into the netbook software that switched between "allow/not allow" ad hoc networks, and switching to "allow", I decided to try the hookup once again. I can't honestly say whether that was the fix, or I simply held my mouth right this time, but after considerable tweaking and several encouraging false starts I was able to get things working pretty well.

It worked well enough in fact that I changed from one star to four. Had it not required so much tweaking to stumble on the correct operating settings even after the allow "fix" on the computer itself, I probably would rate it five. However since one of it's major selling points is ease of use, in my opinion that should include the "learning curve" which I found to be fairly steep, with quite a bit of hit and miss to get it all going well.

But then again maybe I'm just a slow learner.

ASUS Internal 4x Blu-Ray Reader SATA Optical Drive BR-04B2T (Black) Review

ASUS Internal 4x Blu-Ray Reader SATA Optical Drive BR-04B2T
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're shopping around for BD-ROM drives, you should be aware that the software required to play bluray movies can cost as much as the drive itself. It's therefore pretty crucial to find a drive which includes some software if you're on a budget. Keywords in the product description like "BULK" or "OEM" can indicate that software may not be included, so bear that in mind when choosing. The amazon page for this product does not give details on the included software, so I took a chance.

I'm relieved to report that this drive comes in a retail box which includes four screws and PowerDVD 9 software.I had been tracking prices of BD-ROMs on this and other sites for about a year, and at the time of purchase this was the least expensive option for a BD-ROM with software that I had ever seen.

As for the quality of the PowerDVD 9 software, I'm sure you can get an earful from its product page. For my purposes, it is able to play blurays, and I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.A notable difference between PowerDVD 9 and 10 is that only 10 will support 3D movies. If you're interested in watching 3D movies with this drive, know that you'll have to shell out some extra money for the upgraded software.Of course, if you're a 3D movie enthusiast, you're probably used to shelling out extra money.

Please note that a SATA cable is NOT included.Go ahead and add it to your cart now; you won't want to wait another week for amazon to ship it, nor will you want to shell out twenty bucks at Best Buy for one.I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but also make sure your power supply has available SATA power cables and your motherboard has available SATA slots.

I can't really review the comparative performance of this drive verses other drives.I expect higher speeds are more useful when it comes to ripping blurays or using data BDs, but the 4x speed is sufficient to play movies. The mild imperfections I observe when watching movies (more to the sound than the video) I'm more willing to attribute to my modest supporting cast (a 1.8 GHz Core2Duo, Radeon HD 3450, for reference).

Anyway, five stars for meeting my expectations of the drive, coming with software, and VALUE!

Excellent motherboard, price is a bargain for sli-motherboard, it is compatible with the new 45nm processors (which I use now: q9450), I was going to buy the Asus striker extreme, but the motherboard heatsinks are all over the place, and I can't place a bigger cpu heatsink/cooler. It is a decent motherboard overall, great bios and easy overclocking and not to mention stable as well. With this motherboard, I am able to place a zalman cnps9700, and also a 2 slot 8800gts. If want to buy a motherboard that has 3 or even 4 way sli, this is not for you, I recommend anyone not to buy that redundancy, because I was able to achieve 17000 3d marks with just one.
