I assume very few people are looking for BX motherboards, and virtually no one will ever read this. However, I feel it necessary to describe the board more accurately than I have seen it in online catalogs.Specifically, the maximum CPU you can put on it is a slot1 800E (coppermine) with a 100Mhz front side bus speed. It does not support any CPU with an EB suffix (front side bus of 133Mhz).The maximum amount of RAM supported Is 768Meg - but it must be doublesided 256Meg modules (3).If single sided modules are inserted, it will read them as 128Meg, each. You can use PC100 or PC133 SDRAM modules.I do not know the upper limit for hard drives.I'm running 80Gig drives on two of these boards, so the limit is higher than that.I'm guessing 128Gig.The board I got was new in the original box, and the CMOS battery was dead - to be expected on a 10 year old product.I have extras, so no problem.

Read the manual. Before putting power to this board, a jumper must be moved to put it in a maintenance or configuration mode. This is like "administrator mode".After setting everything the way you want it, save the CMOS settings. It will tell you to shutdown and move the jumper to the normal position.Once you have shut it down and moved the jumper, when you turn it back on you will be in "user mode".There may still be some settings you might want to change in this mode.If the battery dies, you have to go through all this again.Relax, my oldest board is going on 5 years on the current battery.

If you don't like the big INTEL logo when it starts, go into the "user mode" settings and tell it to display the diagnostic screen. You can also see this screen if you hit ESC during boot with the logo.

Pro's:

Great board, easy to use & stable, overclocks E5200 up to 3.5 ghz...

Have auto-overclock feature for both processor & memory, adjusts voltages too.

Great safety features to protect for memory & processor damage.

Nice standard features.Basic board, but get's the job done.

Has plenty of room for Drive upgrades

Board is compact, so it's an easy install in most cases, reduces build time by 10%

For the Price, you're getting a bargain.

the con's:

* No extra usb hubs provided, and limited cables provided.
* Only has 1 fan terminal, so you'll be out of luck if you like fan stats.
* 1 Legacy IDE cable slot(pretty much common with all new motherboards, but 2 would be nice)
*Limited Ram slots So no room to upgrade, so buy 4 gigs now.
*Only has 2 PCI slots.
*Has VGA port but no DVI port.(what is this 2003?)

Intel Celeron E3200 Review

This little Intel dual-core CPU won't win any benchmarks, but it does perform adequately. It is made in 45nm, so it uses a lot less power than the older 65nm technology Core-based, socket 775 CPUs.

I underclocked it to 2GHz, and built a system that sips only 35W.This is only about 5W more than an Intel Atom-based system, and this thing will whips its pants in terms of performance.

The heat sink fan (HSF) is a bit of a joke and costs it a star. The new ones are very small and keep the noisy fan.I wound up spending 2/3 of the the price of the CPU on a large, quality HSF with heat pipes. The aftermarket is so good for the CPU that it runs fanless.I feel bad about having to spend so much on the HSF, but I wanted a truly silent and low-power system.

I decided to upgrade my E6600 before jumping to Windows 7 this week. The results are amazing.Temps run around 90 degrees F with a Thermaltake MozartTX case (w extra fans) and a Thermaltake hi rise CPU cooler at full load and less than room temperature at idle!

The main advantage for me was in the encoding speed.I regularly use my PC to encode movies for my Archos 7.With the E6600 I was able to encode full resolution h.264 movies at 1250kbps at 25fps using Handbrake. The Q9650 encodes at 98fps.Simply amazing.A good quick drop-in upgrade for those looking to hold off on a i7 upgrade.

I just upgraded my computer from an AMD Sempron 3000+ (1800 MHz single core CPU) to the new Intel E5300 (2600 Mhz dual core CPU).It was a big speed improvement.SiSoftware Sandra's benchmark indicates that my old AMD 3000 is 72% slower on the CPU arithmetic benchmark.

There is a comprehensive review at a site named Anandtech entitled, "AMD Athlon X2 7850 vs. Intel Pentium E5300: Choosing the Best $70 CPU".The review found that in about half of the tests (like multimedia) the Intel E5300 was faster than the AMD 7850, but for 3 of the 4 games benchmarked the AMD was about 10% faster. The conclusion is that "the Pentium E5300 Intel delivers, at $74, a CPU that is faster than the original Core 2 Duo E6400. And as such, it's also faster than every single Pentium 4 ever made."The E5300 is also faster than the Athlon 64 FX-62.

There is one downside to the E5300's manufactured prior to August 2009.The older E5300's do not support hardware virtualization. What does that mean to you?Microsoft has been developing Virtual PC technology which allows you to simultaneously run multiple operating systems and applications on the same computer. The Microsoft Virtual PC can only be run on CPU's that support hardware virtualization. In Windows 7, the Microsoft Virtual PC software allows you to run earlier versions of Windows within a window of Windows 7.This feature could be used to run legacy (old) applications that have compatibility problems in Windows 7.Some people have also claimed that the Virtual PC mode can be used to circumvent the DRM (digital rights management) technology in Windows 7.

For the budget-minded, the E5300 is a CPU that you should consider.
