Well I suppose this is a good board and Amazon was very quick in replacing it, but out of the box I was unable to enter bios. I was able to update to the latest version no problem and boot into windows vista fine but when pressing F2 all I would get was a blank black screen andI would have to reset. Strange problem, I know. There is one more problem and it's that my computer restarts at random, All parts are brand new and for my sanity sake I hope that is related to the motherboard as well.
Update: Setting OCZ memory voltage to 1.9 fixed the restarting problem, Thanks. It will be a few months before I get a chance to work on the bios problem. In the mean time if anyone else has same problem and comes up with a fix please write review.

I assume very few people are looking for BX motherboards, and virtually no one will ever read this. However, I feel it necessary to describe the board more accurately than I have seen it in online catalogs.Specifically, the maximum CPU you can put on it is a slot1 800E (coppermine) with a 100Mhz front side bus speed. It does not support any CPU with an EB suffix (front side bus of 133Mhz).The maximum amount of RAM supported Is 768Meg - but it must be doublesided 256Meg modules (3).If single sided modules are inserted, it will read them as 128Meg, each. You can use PC100 or PC133 SDRAM modules.I do not know the upper limit for hard drives.I'm running 80Gig drives on two of these boards, so the limit is higher than that.I'm guessing 128Gig.The board I got was new in the original box, and the CMOS battery was dead - to be expected on a 10 year old product.I have extras, so no problem.

Read the manual. Before putting power to this board, a jumper must be moved to put it in a maintenance or configuration mode. This is like "administrator mode".After setting everything the way you want it, save the CMOS settings. It will tell you to shutdown and move the jumper to the normal position.Once you have shut it down and moved the jumper, when you turn it back on you will be in "user mode".There may still be some settings you might want to change in this mode.If the battery dies, you have to go through all this again.Relax, my oldest board is going on 5 years on the current battery.

If you don't like the big INTEL logo when it starts, go into the "user mode" settings and tell it to display the diagnostic screen. You can also see this screen if you hit ESC during boot with the logo.

After using AMD64 for a couple of years, I am back to Intel.
Core2duo is really amazing. This processor is fast, about 3.75 Ghz AMD X2
equivalent, and overclocks well with good mobo. I have P5K-V and running
at 3.6Ghz with a Cooler master Aquagate S1, high 20Cs low load, low 50Cs
full load. Very few apps can use 100% of this CPU.
Only downside is 45nm C2Ds coming real soon.

Pro's:

Great board, easy to use & stable, overclocks E5200 up to 3.5 ghz...

Have auto-overclock feature for both processor & memory, adjusts voltages too.

Great safety features to protect for memory & processor damage.

Nice standard features.Basic board, but get's the job done.

Has plenty of room for Drive upgrades

Board is compact, so it's an easy install in most cases, reduces build time by 10%

For the Price, you're getting a bargain.

the con's:

* No extra usb hubs provided, and limited cables provided.
* Only has 1 fan terminal, so you'll be out of luck if you like fan stats.
* 1 Legacy IDE cable slot(pretty much common with all new motherboards, but 2 would be nice)
*Limited Ram slots So no room to upgrade, so buy 4 gigs now.
*Only has 2 PCI slots.
*Has VGA port but no DVI port.(what is this 2003?)

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz 6M L2 Cache 1333MHz LGA775 Desktop Processor Review

Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 3.33GHz 6M L2 Cache 1333MHz LGA775 Desktop Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before buying the E8600 processor, I was torn between the E8400 (3.0Ghz), E8500 (3.16 Ghz) & E8600 (3.33 Ghz) processors. The 8600 is priced considerably higher than the 8400 and 8500 for only a minor boost in speed. Either processor will provide oustanding performance. In my case, I own a 680i SLI board that is not compatible with Yorkfield Quad Core processors. This Wolfdale 8600 is truly the maximum baseline performance processor that I can put into my system, so I felt I should go with the higher 3.33 Ghz for more "stable" overclocking potential.

** Overclocking is generally not recommended due to the potential to damage the components; Safe overclocking is possible with the right hardware, the right expertise, the right voltages, the right cooling and the right guidance **

If you do not overclock your PC, then the E8500 or E8400 will give you the most bang for your buck. If you DO overclock your PC, the E8500 or E8400 will still give you them most bang for your buck. Any of the these 3 processors will overclock nicely. For a little extra $$$, you can get this E8600 and have a higher "starting point" of 3.33 Ghz at 1333FSB. In my case, I run a 680i board with a maximum declared FSB of 1600Mhz. I also run 8 Gigs of Hyper X DDR2 at 800Mhz. Doing the Math, I found that I can adjust my FSB Overclock to a flat 400Mhz, giving me a resulting 1600FSB at a 1:1 Memory Ratio, giving me a Solid 4.0GHZ for CPU!!

Here is the math in case you were wondering...
- default settings = 333Mhz CPU X 10x Multiplier = 3.33Ghz..... 333Mhz X 4 (quad pumped FSB) = 1333Mhz
- my Settings = 400Mhz CPU x 10x Multiplier = 4.0 Ghz..... 400Mhz X 4 (quad pumped FSB) = 1600Mhz

I have no intention to go beyond the 4.0Ghz specification, since 4Ghz is plenty fast for my needs. I have heard this can safely hit the 4.5Ghz mark, but I am not really tempted to go there. I use a coolermaster V8 cooler in my Antec 900 case (very very tight fit with some cutting!). I found that my idle Tjunction core0 and core1 temps idle at 40 degrees C, and my Tcase temps hover close to 30 degrees celcius using the speedfan application. I still need to test 100% loads, but so far at considerable loads the Tcase temp has not gone higher than 46 degrees.

So, In Summary:

Pros:
- Fast baseline 3.33 Ghz clock
- Cool Temps!
- Higher base clock allows you to hit that 4Ghz mark with little overclocking effort
- Low Voltage! Never goes above 1.32 volts even with overclocking to 4Ghz.
- Scores 7.1 in Windows 7 experience index when at 4Ghz

Cons:
- Costs considerably more than e8500 and e8400 for only a minor boost in performance

Summary:
If you are an enthusisast and own a 680i board, this is the best you can get with great overclockability. Otherwise, the E8500 and E8400 will be better choices for you at better prices. You will be happy with either of these processors, as long as you don't fry them :)

Other thoughts: e8600 3.33 Ghz (running at 4Ghz), antec 900, 1000 BFG PSU, 8G HyperX PC26400 RAM, Dual 8800GTS 640MB GPU's in SLI, Coolermaster V8, Windows 7 64-bit Professional

--- Update 1 Month Later ---
I was able to load the CPU using my Coolermaster V8 cooler and the Intel Burn test Utility:

IDLE
> CPU Temp: 27C
> Core 0: 40C
> Core 1: 40C

MAXIMUM LOAD @30 Mins using Intel BurnTest (max temps attained, not sustained temps)
> CPU Temp: 62C
> Core 0: 62C
> Core 1: 63C

Caution: Intel BurnTest really puts a load on your CPU
Temperature Utility Used : Speedfan ; My Core0 and 1 temps are probably "stuck" at 40c on idle
--- Still going strong! ---

Intel Celeron E3200 Review

Intel Celeron E3200
Average Reviews:

This little Intel dual-core CPU won't win any benchmarks, but it does perform adequately. It is made in 45nm, so it uses a lot less power than the older 65nm technology Core-based, socket 775 CPUs.

I underclocked it to 2GHz, and built a system that sips only 35W.This is only about 5W more than an Intel Atom-based system, and this thing will whips its pants in terms of performance.

The heat sink fan (HSF) is a bit of a joke and costs it a star. The new ones are very small and keep the noisy fan.I wound up spending 2/3 of the the price of the CPU on a large, quality HSF with heat pipes. The aftermarket is so good for the CPU that it runs fanless.I feel bad about having to spend so much on the HSF, but I wanted a truly silent and low-power system.

I bought this to upgrade the Compaq Presario CQ60-417dx. Yes this is a relatively new(for now), yet budget model. Originally it came with the Celeron 900 (2.2ghz) which was fine, but as I started getting more attached to the laptop I wanted to do more with it. Started working more with video on this thing than I originally planned or wanted. I was able to find and download the manual for disassembling the Presario and with a little elbow grease was able to replace that Celeron. GREATLY improved my video work. The processor went right in. I had to reboot twice. Once to reset the BIOS and the second was warranted by Windows 7RC to install the processor. Since then I've had no bugs or hitches with the new processor. HWMonitor(CPUID) shows idle at 19C and load at 38C. And just in case you're into this...Windows 7 experience rating for the CPU went from 4.3 to 5.9. I giggle because all the original stickers(Intel Celeron Inside and Windows Vista Home Premium) are still on the palm rest and neither of those are on the machine at all any more. I've always built my own PCs but this is my first laptop that I've owned. Thinking about adding an OCZ Vertex SSD.... I like to tinker. Anyways, processor works geat and I would highly recommend for those that are brave enough to take apart their lappys.

I've been building computers since NT4, and I'm amazed how technology has come, so far. I'm specifically impressed with the Intel DG45ID MOBO. Built specifically for Media Center use. This MOBO works really well with my Vista x64 Ultimate. I watch Blu-ray, HD DVD's, and online movies. I set this up with a quad core processor, 8GB RAM (Corsair), on an Antec case. The built-in HDMI (video card) passes audio and video. I've tested other MOBO (not an Intel), & their built-in HDMI (video card), does not pass audio. This video card can only achieve 1080p, at 60hz. So if you have a 120 Hz TV, it will bump down to 60 Hz.
Good luck with watching Netflix movie, using this video card. There's some DRM, management rights issue.
There are no legacy peripherals/hookups on this MOBO; all SATA, USB, Firewire connections. I don't know how the integrated RAID controller performs, since I'm currently not using it. The only suggestion is to have integrated wifi included on this board. I'll purchase this MOBO again, if someone wants me to build them a Media Center.

*** April 2009 Update ***
I purchased and hooked-up the Sony STRDG820 Receiver. The Sony works really well with my HTPC. I'm still using the integrated HDMI in the MOBO.
Last week I updated the BIOS. I found out that I'm way behind and I could not update using Express BIOS update. I had to update using Recovery or Iflash. I don't have a USB floppy, so I updated using my USB stick. The app that I used is the HP USB Disk Storage. You can download that app for free. You should be able to create a DOS startup disk, with the downloaded BIOS, .BIO extension file from Intel.
BTW: I'm using the Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 800 MHz 240-PIN DDR2 Dual-Channel Memory Kit - TWIN2X4096-6400C5. I have 8GB RAM, and BIOS setup for auto; my current memory speed is 800MHz.
Also, I'm not experiencing that weird DRM Netflix issue anymore.

This cooler is the perfect way to keep your system quiet.I have a AMD FX2 CPU and I've had six different coolers/fans to try to keep my computer as quiet as possible.I recently purchased a high-end graphics card with passive (no fan) cooling and this made the situation worse because the CPU fan was having to pick up the slack and move more heat.

Zalman has a great reputation and I thought this fan might do the trick.

It did.

My system is whisper quiet, even when I tax the CPU heavily and the video card, -even at the same time.I never thought my computer could be so quiet.

Some things to keep in mind.

1) Take your time, read the instructions, and be careful of the fins, they're sharp.
2) Make sure you face the fan in the right direction, it's not in the logical direction you might think. In my case the fan is on the far side of the back of the case and you might think otherwise when you first look at it.
3) Instructions need to followed if your installation is going to work. It's a bit of a puzzle, especially if you only use the printed instructions.
4) I strongly recommend you USE THE ZALMAN WEB SITE for help with the installation.Go to their web site, find this cooler in their product list, and once you're at this product's web site you'll find an installation tab with a very, very good animated installation guide.
5) Be sure you select your correct CPU for instructions, the Intel and AMD instructions are VERY different (due to the way they mount to a motherboard).

Considering the cost, and the 30 minutes to install, I think this fan is worth the time and effort and cost.

An excellent product!
