(More customer reviews)I assume very few people are looking for BX motherboards, and virtually no one will ever read this.However, I feel it necessary to describe the board more accurately than I have seen it in online catalogs.Specifically, the maximum CPU you can put on it is a slot1 800E (coppermine) with a 100Mhz front side bus speed.It does not support any CPU with an EB suffix (front side bus of 133Mhz).The maximum amount of RAM supported Is 768Meg - but it must be doublesided 256Meg modules (3).If single sided modules are inserted, it will read them as 128Meg, each.You can use PC100 or PC133 SDRAM modules.I do not know the upper limit for hard drives.I'm running 80Gig drives on two of these boards, so the limit is higher than that.I'm guessing 128Gig.The board I got was new in the original box, and the CMOS battery was dead - to be expected on a 10 year old product.I have extras, so no problem.

Read the manual.Before putting power to this board, a jumper must be moved to put it in a maintenance or configuration mode.This is like "administrator mode".After setting everything the way you want it, save the CMOS settings.It will tell you to shutdown and move the jumper to the normal position.Once you have shut it down and moved the jumper, when you turn it back on you will be in "user mode".There may still be some settings you might want to change in this mode.If the battery dies, you have to go through all this again.Relax, my oldest board is going on 5 years on the current battery.

If you don't like the big INTEL logo when it starts, go into the "user mode" settings and tell it to display the diagnostic screen.You can also see this screen if you hit ESC during boot with the logo.

(More customer reviews)This board just works.Installation was a breeze, so much so that I talked a 15 year old through the procedure over the phone (this board was sent to the son of a friend of mine as a rebuild after his Asus mainboard went belly up).

Expandable and stable.The driver install was a total non-event in terms of complexity.

Two things to be aware of, however.

First, this mainboard does not come with mounting screws (although I expect none do).If you don't already have screws, you may wish to purchase them.

Second, and more importantly, be aware that the D915GAV does NOT have onboard LAN support.You must order D915GAVL if you want onboard LAN.Sadly, Intel's documentation is not very clear on this point.However, this seller was absolutely exemplary in changing my order to the D915GAVL once I discovered my mistake.They were very willing to work with me, and I give them 5 stars as well for going the extra mile for me.

Zotac GeForce 9300 HDMI Wi-Fi Mini ITX Intel Motherboard GF9300-G-E Review

(More customer reviews)Bought one of these when I saw it on a shelf at a local computer shop. I didn't need it, didn't have any case to put it in, didn't have a spare power supply to test it with, but I had to have it. Brought it home, started searching for cases and parts for it.

The good
Requires a power supply, a CPU, a DIMM and a hard drive or compact flash card with adapter to build a full PC. It's the first motherboard I've seen in its' price range that is good enough for just about anything (included even casual gaming) with almost no real additional investment. It's possible to build a mini-game system for $300 with this board. For an extra $100, adding a graphics card can turn it into a relatively high-end gaming system.

The bad
Damn near impossible to buy a case for it which will do it justice. Socket-775 chips are not really meant for this type of application. But I found that under-clocking a 45nm Core-2 makes it so you can place it in just about any case with a low profile cooler running on low RPM.

If you're an impulse shopper, click buy now and figure out what to do with the board later once you've got it. This is just about the coolest board on the market at the moment.

Zotac, if you're reading this, please make a new model with 8 SATA ports on it so you'll make the most amazing mini-server board as well. A mini-itx board with built in hardware RAID-5 for 8 drives would make it the best mini-server board EVER

Intel DG45ID Media Series G45 micro-ATX Intel Graphics HDMI+DVI 1333MHz LGA775 Desktop Motherboard Review

(More customer reviews)I've been building computers since NT4, and I'm amazed how technology has come, so far. I'm specifically impressed with the Intel DG45ID MOBO. Built specifically for Media Center use. This MOBO works really well with my Vista x64 Ultimate. I watch Blu-ray, HD DVD's, and online movies. I set this up with a quad core processor, 8GB RAM (Corsair), on an Antec case. The built-in HDMI (video card) passes audio and video. I've tested other MOBO (not an Intel), & their built-in HDMI (video card), does not pass audio. This video card can only achieve 1080p, at 60hz. So if you have a 120 Hz TV, it will bump down to 60 Hz.
Good luck with watching Netflix movie, using this video card. There's some DRM, management rights issue.
There are no legacy peripherals/hookups on this MOBO; all SATA, USB, Firewire connections. I don't know how the integrated RAID controller performs, since I'm currently not using it. The only suggestion is to have integrated wifi included on this board. I'll purchase this MOBO again, if someone wants me to build them a Media Center.

*** April 2009 Update ***
I purchased and hooked-up the Sony STRDG820 Receiver. The Sony works really well with my HTPC. I'm still using the integrated HDMI in the MOBO.
Last week I updated the BIOS. I found out that I'm way behind and I could not update using Express BIOS update. I had to update using Recovery or Iflash. I don't have a USB floppy, so I updated using my USB stick. The app that I used is the HP USB Disk Storage. You can download that app for free. You should be able to create a DOS startup disk, with the downloaded BIOS, .BIO extension file from Intel.
BTW: I'm using the Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 800 MHz 240-PIN DDR2 Dual-Channel Memory Kit - TWIN2X4096-6400C5. I have 8GB RAM, and BIOS setup for auto; my current memory speed is 800MHz.
Also, I'm not experiencing that weird DRM Netflix issue anymore.

Media Center and a Hauppauge TV tuner flawlessly, including HDTV record and play, as well as all of the traditional Windows applications I tried, all with a single 2 GB DIMM.

The box came with 2 SATA cables (20-inches long w. locking clips), 1 ribbon cable for older ATA drives (17-inches), a DVI-to-VGA connector adapter, CD with Intel utilities, and RF shield. The included cables are long enough for a mid-tower chassis, but might not reach in every full-size tower. A power cable adapter for SATA drives is not included.See Tripp Lite P944-06I Serial ATA (SATA) Power Cable - 6in

Every "legacy" component worked fine, including an old ATX 1 power supply, PS2 keyboard, speakers (via the old Line-Out) connector, and VGA monitor, using the DVI-to-VGA adapter.

Other useful info:

The MB is relatively low power. The Intel manual allows use of old ATX 1.x power supplies with a 20-pin connector (the high-order pins, 21-24, remain open, an adapter is NOT required). A 350-watt ATX 1 supply was adaquate for the motherboard with a Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB RAM, 2 hard drives (one each ATA and SATA), 2 DVD (ATA and SATA) drives, and a couple USB loads.

Memory can be added one DIMM at a time or in pairs.

The PS2 connector can support a keyboard or mouse, NOT both, so I opted for PS2 keyboard, and USB mouse.

To learn all details download the manual and the technical product specification (2 separate documents) from the Intel web site, the short product description really does not do it justice. New video and audio drivers are also available from Intel.
