Xbrand XB-1002 360 Height Adjustable Laptop Stand with USB 2.0 Hub Review

(More customer reviews)Having a laptop, I wanted to be able to use the laptop as a desktop in a spare room in my house, but still be able to quickly take the laptop without having to fiddle with a lot of plugs. This X-Brand stand showed a lot of promise, so I gave it a try.

The stand has a four-port USB 2.0 hub built into it. You place it on your desk where you would normally place a display or LCD panel. You plug a USB keyboard, mouse, and any other USB devices you may have (printer, scanner, USB hub) into the stand. At that point, it's ready to go. You simply place your laptop onto it, and plug the stand's USB connector into your laptop's USB port. All of the devices plugged into the stand are then connected to your laptop, giving you a full-sized keyboard, a mouse, and whatever else you have plugged into the USB ports. The stand angles your laptop so that while you cannot use your laptop's keyboard (which is why you plug in a full-sized keyboard), the laptop's display isn't as far back as it would be if you laid it down flat and placed a keyboard in front of it. The display is also raised a bit higher and is closer to eye-level. The end result is that with a single plug, you transform your laptop into a very workable and convenient desktop.

There are some drawbacks to this device. If you have a laptop with a front-mounted CD/DVD drive, it will become inaccessible since the front of your laptop rests on the front lip of the X-Brand stand. Also, this particular stand does not have audio capabilities, meaning that you'll still hear sound out of your laptop's speakers. If you choose this model, I would recommend getting an iMic audio adapter. It's a tiny USB audio device that has an analog input and output. While designed for a Macintosh, it's recognized and fully supported by Windows XP and Vista. With an iMic (or anything similar) plugged into the X-Brand stand, and a full, amplified PC speaker system plugged into the iMic, when your laptop is hooked up, you have full audio capabilities from powered speakers, just like any desktop.

There is a model above this one that has more features. The higher-end X-
Brand stand has a built-in ethernet adapter and audio controller (similar to the iMic). This stand can have powered speakers plugged into it, and be hooked up to your network. When a laptop is placed onto it, you have instant network capabilities and full, powered audio. While this is nice, the majority of laptops have wireless capability and do not need a USB-based ethernet connection. The only flaw I found with that particular X-Brand model was that there was a problem with the audio jack on it, and the left speaker did not work. The sound from the right-speaker did appear to be of low quality, sounding a bit garbled and with some static. I do not know if that was indicative of the defective audio jack (since the left speaker did not work), or of the USB audio chip within the stand. If you already have wireless capabilities on your laptop, and have a wireless network, it'll be more cost-effective to just buy an iMic and this particular model X-Brand stand that only has the USB hub, rather than buying the higher-end model with USB, ethernet, and audio.

All in all, I find the X-Brand USB notebook stand to be well worth the money. It lets me use my laptop like a desktop, yet in a way where it's easy to grab my laptop when I'm on the go.

(More customer reviews)I'm a big fan of the HP HDX series.It sits at the top of their Pavilion line and is one of the best built notebooks sold in the retail channel.It's aimed solidly at consumers looking for a high end entertainment laptop.Because the material quality is well above average it's not necessarily the best value: you can get these specs for less money, just not with the same build quality.This is a good choice for someone looking for a notebook that can handle more than just web browsing.The biggest drawback of this HDX model is a slightly under powered battery and a little more weight (though again, much of that lies with the superior frame and shell).

Let's go over the specs:

CPU: The Core 2 P7550 runs two separate cores at 2.26GHz and has 3MB of on chip cache.The Core2 line is the best notebook CPU out there today and and this model this is about in the middle of the mobile Core2 line in terms of performance.At 35W it sits in the same thermal envelope as much slower chips (such as the Mobile Pentium line).Having two cores means you can run your full internet security suite and not have your computer freeze up for events like a virus scan.

MEMORY: 4GB of DDR2 RAM is plenty and the 1066Mhz memory speed is plenty fast.

HDD: The 500GB HDD has plenty of storage, even if you like to do video encoding.The 5400RPM speed isn't the fastest but it is more reliable that 7200RPM drives.

(More customer reviews)I just bought a Macbook Pro 17" and I work on it all day and it gets extremely hot, I really wanted to find the right solution for my need, which is something that will help reduce the overheating of my computer, be portable, and not have to buy an additional keyboard.I was really leaning towards the iCurve, which looks great and will actually raise my screen up, but the fact I can't really take it anywhere and also needing an additonal keyboard, took it out of running.I looked into others, but really, I think K.I.S.S.(Keep It Simple Stupid) was the main reason I bought this. My computer is still warm, but I can tell this product is helping my computer from overheating by lifting it off the desk.Only thing I think that doesn't work well with Macbooks are the fact the CD/DVD Slot gets cover so if you need to insert or remove the CD/DVD, I need to lift it up.Which isn't hard, but I rather wish I didn't have to this.But generally, it is compact, easy to set up and breakdown, definitely a good option for people on the go.

I've bought a half-dozen different laptop tables, and they're all crammed in a Goodwill box in my garage. Usually they're too narrow, too wide, or too angled, or they rest on the thighs and cause a neck cramp plus uncomfortable pressure on my legs. And a couple are made of cheap materials that probably wouldn't hold up if I DID use them.

But this one is PERFECT! The different sections/legs can rotate either direction, very easily -using buttons instead screws, and the degree of the angle is printed around each button, so I can replicate the exactly angle I like depending on what chair I'm using (home, Starbucks, bookstore, school or work, etc.)The tray that holds the computer is also adjustable up & down, so my wrist does NOT rest at an awkward hand-numbing angle any more.It does not touch my body, either; no pressure points to become chafed or uncomfortable after a few hours. It's lightweight and rather elegant, too.

My husband keeps borrowing mine, so I'm getting him one of his own.

Like most Gadgeteers, I have multiple laptops, monitors, and assorted tech cluttered on my desk.I've always searched for many different ways of organizing my desk space.That's where the U-Board USB Multi-Board from Pyramid Distribution comes in.I've always wanted a small second shelf, like a mini-hutch, for my glass desk.The problem is that many places that sells them are made of wood, which doesn't really match well with the glass desk.Luckily the U-Board is made of glass too.

There is no instruction manual included in the package but there's a single picture of how all the pieces come together on the back of the box.It was pretty much self explanatory.It comes with the glass, left and right frame, cup holder, 4 rubber pads, 4 screws, and 4 screw covers.The left frame also acts as a 3 port USB hub.

Putting it together was pretty simple.You just slide the glass in to the frames and screw it down.The only thing that I noticed is that the screw sticks out a tiny bit which makes the screw covers lump out.I tried tightening the screws more but I was afraid that I might crack the glass.It's not a big deal but it would be nice if the screw covers were flat with the frame.

On the left and right of the frame are 2 holes that you can insert the cup holder in.The cup holder has 5 slots that you can hold papers in also.I'm not sure about you but I personally like to keep liquids far away from my tech.It would be better if they changed that cup holder to something like an iPod dock.

The U-Board logo is on the top left of the glass.

The U-Board is big enough to fit a full size Microsoft Keyboard Elite.And of course it can fit the Mac Wireless Keyboard also.

Having the U-Board gave me an extra shelf to place stuff on in front of my monitor and also be able to slide my keyboard underneath it.

My Griffin knob and Luxeed keyboard gives the U-Board a nice glow.

At $49.95, I believe the U-Board is well worth it.I love the simplistic design and the integrated USB hub.The U-Board is also compatible with both Macs and PCs.

(More customer reviews)I really like this notebook kit. There are several things that stand out about it.

1) Stylish - the mouse, keyboard and stand are all minimalistic, but look nice with black and yellow accents.
2) Quality - I buy a lot of logitech stuff, but this seems to be really good as far as the build of the keyboard and mouse.
3) USB adapter - it comes with the low profile USB adapter so you never have to take it out of your notebook. This was the main reason i bought the kit, to replace my old notebook mouse with annoying large USB plug.
4) No Wires - some people may want a kit with extra USB ports or inputs, but i did not. I'm glad because there are no extra wires to clutter up my desk.

So overall no complaints. Id heard with some of the other kits that the notebook didn't stay on the stand to well, but this one has multiple levels of incline and rubber on the bottom to grip the edge of the notebook. Maybe a little overpriced but i still recommend it.

(More customer reviews)Everything that was bad about Kensington's previous generation lock, the three wheel Kensington 64050 ComboSaver Notebook Lock, has been fixed in this one.

As I write this, both the three wheel 64050 and this new generation 64344 are on the market, but the three wheel lock is awkward to use and this one is easy.This one has none of the accidental combination reset problems of the earlier lock and is a bit more robust.This one is just a bit bulkier than the 3 wheel version, but has a nice strap to keep it coiled up when stored.It works well on my MacBook Pro, and stores neatly in my Incase Nylon Sleeve for MacBook Pro.
