Lx Dual Desk Mount Arm, Silver Review

Lx Dual Desk Mount Arm, Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was surprised how heavy the box was when arrived. The LX dual has only solid metal load bearing parts, plastic only plays role as cable ties or aesthetic cover. It feels robust and reliable. The box had all the necessary tools to assemble and mount the monitors. For heavier over 20" LCD panels the spring in the arm will need to be adjusted, the adjustment tool is part of the package. I am amazed by the build quality and the value for the money, specially when I see more expensive products with plastic joints on the market.

3M Easy Adjust Monitor Arm - Desk Mount Review

3M Easy Adjust Monitor Arm - Desk Mount
Average Reviews:

I love this arm!I've had it just a few days. But I can't imagine living without it now! This thing is STURDY!To my mind the design is beautiful. And it does exactly exactly what you need, which is to have a monitor which can be raised or lowered, brought closer or pushed into the background, and turned every which way (including sideways!).I bought it to go with my new Mac Mini, Apple Mac Mini MC270LL/A Desktop, and a lovely monitor, ViewSonic's VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch (21.5-Inch Vis) Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED Monitor with Integrated Stereo Speakers, which would have been very stationary, not flexible.

It is so easy to assemble this arm, which comes beautifully packaged in a small box (in three large pieces, with everything you need to assemble it in several different ways - including tools, with the exception of a Phillips screwdriver).I'm a 65 year old female and had no trouble following the pictures to assemble it.I will admit though, that its weight is so heavy once it's assembled, that I did get some help holding it, while I attached it to my table.(That's not a negative, but you might want another person around when you're attaching it to the table.)By the way, it provides a variety of ways to attach as well. All pictured in the directions that come with it.This is one flexible and brilliant piece of equipment!

If you're looking for something which may last longer than you will, which is easy to assemble, very sturdy, and enables you to have almost infinite control over how you place your monitor, this is what you've been looking for! It's a small price to pay when you consider how long it will last.It was delivered quickly by Amazon.

If you can't afford it now, put it on your wish list for later!

ErgoMotion Laser Mouse - Black Review

ErgoMotion Laser Mouse - Black

I just received my ErgoMotion Mouse. I was looking for an ergonomic replacement for my previous Microsoft mouse that died on me after several years of loyal service. I was very frustrated with the options available for left handed users. I came across Smartfish Technologies web site a few months ago, before the mouse was available, and decided that this would be my next mouse (I used my "back-up" mouse until now, a wired $3 mouse). I kept checking back to see about availability and when I saw that Amazon had a few in stock, I jumped at it and it arrived today. I love the ErgoMotion Mouse. It took me a few minutes to get used to it, Its a little larger than I expected, I had to decide whether its more comfortable to use a palm rest or not, and I had to adjust the pointer speed in the mouse settings. Now I am happy. My months of suffering with my uncomfortable back-up mouse is over. I highly recommend the ErgoMotion Mouse. It is comfortable, seems to be well made and the pivoting top has just the right amount of resistance. At first I found that I was accidentally pressing the buttons while moving the mouse, but after a few minutes, I'm used to it. It is a great product.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 - b5q-00027

This is a great basic wireless keyboard/mouse set. Works great for the price. It does not eat up batteries, regular batteries can last a good 3-4 months before you have to change them. The keyboard works right out of the box, you don't have to install any software unless you want to use the special shortcut keys, but I recommend against installing included software, it is buggy and may mess up your USB drivers. The range on this is about 3 feet, I wish it was longer, but the usb receiver has long cord so you can position it at an optimal distance for your setup.

Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard Review

Microsoft Natural Multimedia Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This keyboard has a comfortable feel, but I prefer my 7-year-old original Microsoft Natural keyboard, as Microsoft has really fouled up the layout of this one.
The "home" and "end" keys have been moved, the "delete" key enlarged to twice its original size, and the "insert" key is entirely missing. What's more, the F keys have been replaced by Microsoft Office control keys (open, save, undo, print, etc.), and if you want them to act how they're supposed to, you have to manually turn on "F Lock" each and every time you boot--this key cannot be controlled by software!(There is a registry hack for Win2k/XP that can effectively disable "F lock" on the PS/2 version, but if you're using USB or another OS, then you're up a creek.)
It's a shame Microsoft had to add these annoyances to an otherwise good keyboard.

Gyration GYM1100CKNA Air Mouse GO Plus with Compact Keyboard Review

Gyration GYM1100CKNA Air Mouse GO Plus with Compact Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
*******HOW LONG HAVE I OWNED THE GYRATION GO AIR MOUSE & COMPACT KEYBOARD?*******

I have owned this Compact Keyboard and Go Air Mouse Combo for well over a year. I bought it to replace my IR (infra red) Silitek SK-7551 compact keyboard + pointing device for my Home Theater PC (HTPC).

*******WHY DID I NEED IT?*******

Since I have an HTPC it's connected to my HT receiver in my living room and its used to play back DVD, music, stream online video (YouTube). And usually in an HTPC setup the the actual computer case is next to the TV and HT Receiver while you sit a couple of feet away (11ft in my case) from the set up. So you need a wireless keyboard/mouse and remote to work everything.

I have had some sort of an HTPC for about 6 years and in these years the MOST used device (besides the universal remote) is the MOUSE. The SK-7551 retailed for $25 but is no longer made. The OLD mouse was a pointing device in my Silitek Keyboard which meant I had to cradle the weight of the entire keyboard just to use the mouse. So I realized that I need a separate mouse and keyboard but did not want to spend on high end stuff like Logitech DiNovo. Plus the Silitek Keyboard was IR which means I needed to ALWAYS point to the receiving station (placed under the TV) for me to make it work. *******SO HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?*******

Note the OLD keyboard on my HTPC was an IR or infra red keyboard which means the two sensors MUST be in the line of sight to work. That was the bad news, the good news was that it was immune from interference. Any RF product that run at 2.4 Ghz (like the Gyration Keyboard&Mouse) will have some interference. Even a microwave can cause some interference.

Here are some observations:
1) The Gyration KEYBOARD is a compact 88 keys RF keyboard and it's very light. But I do have some delay between initial keystrokes and them appearing on screen. But once the letters start appearing on screen the delay is minimal. But it can get irritating but you get used to it.

2) If you plan to use this as the ONLY keyboard & mouse connected to your PC you need to enable USB mouse and keyboard in your BIOS. The RF receiver that comes with the product plug into your USB device. Otherwise you cannot use the mouse or keyboard when you are in the BIOS.

3) The RF USB receiver seems to work better when plug it in the front USB ports. This could be because my HTPC has 802.11G PCI card with antenna in the back and plugging it in the back with both devices on 2.4Ghz may not be a good idea. But if you have a toddler in the house like I do, that's not very feasible to put it in the front USB port. So I bought 3 ft USB extension cord and plugged one end in the rear ports but the actual RF receiver is safely hidden in the TV cabinet. Since its RF it works through walls.

4) The STAR of the system in the Gyration GO Air Mouse. It can be used as an optical mouse and if you pick it up it becomes an gyro controlled air mouse. It works "pretty well" most of time. The Go Air tools software controls hand gestures and they work well too. But I cannot get the back and forward swipe motions for Firefox to work. Every time I gesture to go back in the FireFox browser it will do it but it will also open ANOTHER Firefox window. The solution is to open an IE window, minimize it and then use Firefox. When you do this the back and forward motion in Firefox works fine. This is a Firefox specific problem...its irritating but I have learned to live with it.

The above problem only happens with back and forward gestures in the Firefox browser, if you use IE you wont have to deal with it. The short cut to programs are really cool and they work well.

The other problem is with the battery. It does not hold charge that long (and I mean like a standard on your table bluetooth or wireless mouse), the solution is pretty simple keep the mouse + charger as close to your couch as possible this way you use it and when you are done put it back on the charge and its always on the charge till you need it. It will hold a charge for about 2-3 hours enough for you to get through a DVD movie.

*******OK OK...DO YOU RECOMMEND THAT WE BUY IT?*******

I did NOT buy this from Amazon, there was a very very slickdeal for this combo and it cost me about 1/4th of it's current Amazon Retail (at the time of writing).

Do I think its a great product for $100 + ? No, go for a Logitech DiNovo Mini for a little more.

Do I think its a great product for $50-100? Meeh, it depends.

Ok so is it a great product for under $50 ? ABSOFRIGGINGLUTELY :-)

Wireless Rf Mini Multimedia USB Kyb with optical Trackball 2.4GHZ Blk Review

Wireless Rf Mini Multimedia USB Kyb with optical Trackball 2.4GHZ Blk
Average Reviews:

I use this as the keyboard for my living room entertainment center. Although I have the USB RF receiver in the front USB port, I am able to type and mouse as if it were a wired keyboard/mouse even from my kitchen 25 feet away. This is the best purchase I've made for my entertainment center. I love the trackball on the right and the scrollwheel under the left trigger spot. My only complaint is that the RF times out after a short while (5m perhaps), but it comes on with any keystroke (and it still registers that keystroke). When I need to use the mouse, I just hit the shift key and it functions again. This is probably a good feature because it should be saving battery life. I've been using the same batteries for three months and have not had to re-register the keyboard to the USB receiver.

The quality is way better than what I expected, and it's holding my monitors very securly.I like the added flexability of being able to go from portrait to landscape very easily and setup was a breeze.

Regarding the other review about it being too loose.I actually had the opposite problem.Mine was too tight.

But not a big deal (and shouldn't be a big deal for the guy that complained about i being too loose). You can actually adjust the tightness for all of the joints.Just pop off the plastic covering of the joint and you will see some bolts.Grab a wrench and tighten away (or loosen in my case).

Love it.It's great.

Mx Desk Mount LCD Arm Review

Mx Desk Mount LCD Arm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm already a huge fan of Ergotron products going back to when I used to design and install computer rooms and data centers. So, when the time came for me to buy something for my home office, I did shop a bit but always came back to Ergotron.Last year I purchased the LX Dual Desk Mount Arm to support a 22" Samsung monitor and my Apple MacBook Pro 15".This setup has been awesome, providing me with a dual-monitor feature that is really a time saver.

I want to provide some key information to anyone considering this device that I think will help you decide.

1)I purchased this arm concerned it may not support the weight of the Apple iMac 27" computer. The computer with the base weighs in at 30.5 lbs and without the base is ~27.5 lbs. so based on the math, I'm well within the weight range of the MX Arm spec. That being said, since I already knew how to adjust my LX Dual Arm setup, I found the MX to be identical in adjustment and fitment capability.

2)Ergotron sent a nice package of bolts, screws, desk-mount optional hardware and even a set of tools to make the adjustments.Setting it up was simple and getting attached was fairly straight forward. They provide a wing-nut to tighten the base to the desk but I recommend if you have a heavy monitor or computer like I do, go to a nearby hardware store and buy a nylon-insert nut (I forgot the specific size, just take the bolt with you) and use that to fasten it to the desk.Be sure not to over tighten it or you could potentially damage your furniture and the swing arm.

3)If your computer or monitor leans toward the high end of the scale with respect to the specification of this swing arm, be sure to pre-tighten the adjustment screws before you put weight on it.You'll find it much easier to do and, easier to adjust afterward.I should have I know but I didn't keep track of how many revolutions I made on the neck and head adjustments but suffice it to say it was more than 20 full revolutions. You'll get a sense for how the tension is but just be careful not to over tighten.

4)Make sure you've assembled everything according to the spec but also make sure you've installed your mounting bracket correctly so that you can just simply lay the monitor or the computer on the MX Arm and hand tighten the large plastic-headed screws to the 100x100 mounting plate. This will make life very easy.

Bottom line, I used the VESA Mount Adapter Kit for 24-inch/27-inch iMac and 24-inch LED Cinema Display - Apple Part Number: MC434ZM/A -- this worked perfectly and was very well made.

This was a very straight forward and very effective solution for what I was trying to achieve.I'm now able to swing my Apple 27" iMac 180 degrees around on my desk, pivot it upward about 70 degrees and lower it if needed. It works very well, its very well made and I highly recommend this to anyone considering this sort of mount for your large iMac or Cinema displays!!!

Logitech Media Keyboard Review

Logitech Media Keyboard

Logitech Keyboard Issue

On 22-Nov-2004 I called Logitech at 1-702-269-3457 to arrange for an RMA.They said no need to return the broken unit, they would send a replacement keyboard out within 24-48 hours. They assigned Case #XXXXXX and RMA# XXXXXX.

On 29-Nov-2004 spoke to a nice person(name witheld) who was pleasant and polite.I told her that the good news was that I just received the replacement keyboard, the bad news is that it is the wrong one.It is a "Media" model which is a lower model than the "Elite" that I purchased.I pointed out that this model is missing 2 key features, the thumb wheel on the left and the volume dial on the top; the 2 main reasons for which I bought the Elite model.

She put me on hold and when she came back, she proceeded to try to convince me that the model they sent me was an "upgrade" from the "Elite".I explained to her that her assertion was incorrect and the "Media" model was clearly an inferior model.I pointed out that on Newegg.com, the "Media" sells for $18 while the "Elite" sells for $29.I again pointed out that this model is missing 2 key features, the thumb wheel on the left and the volume dial on the top; the 2 main reasons for which I bought the Elite model.

She put me on hold several times during the call which, by the way, lasted for 55 minutes. Each time she came back she continued to try to sell the idea that I was getting an upgrade.I was patient for the first 50 minutes of this but I'm not a saint and finally stopped her. I told her that I was an Engineer, a very technical and computer savvy person and that no one, any where would consider what they did an upgrade. I told her that I didn't appreciate being treated this way. And requested to speak to a supervisor.

At that point, she admitted that the "Media" model was missing features and that she understood my concerns. She then said that they had no more "Elite" models and that's why they sent the "Media" model.I suggested they get one from one of their vendors like Newegg.com; she said I WOULD HAVE TO BUY IT FROM THEM DIRECTLY and they had no way of compensating me for that. She then said that the "Elites" were no longer being manufactured. What should I believe here????

So in the end, they did not comply with the terms of their own warranty. When I pointed that out, she said that they did by sending me the inferior keyboard.

How ridiculous is this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was appalled! If it didn't happed to me, I would have doubtedthat it really happened. Finally, I asked if she was going to comply with my earlier request to speak to a supervisor. She said yes and went on hold yet again...she came back and we waited for another 5 or so minutes for the supervisor (Todd) who never answered. She then asked if she could have him call me back in a few minutes and confirmed my phone number.

What nonsense!I have never seen a company tell such bold falsehoods to avoid fulfilling its warranty commitments, especially considering that this was all for a lousy $30 product. Wouldn't it have been easier to just make the customer happy and handle this? They won the battle, but I'll win the war by never buying another Logitech product again and I urge all of you who read this sad tale to also avoid buying from them.

The supervisor NEVER CALLED.Run, don't walk away from these guys.

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 (Silver) Review

Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been waiting for this keyboard since December.Microsoft has had problems in production and deadlines about this product. As of the day I write this, Microsoft's website "Press Pass" still publishes an article saying this keyboard and mouse set will be released "January 2007." That didn't happen. But it is here now and I'm not too impressed, even though I'm satisfied.
I was debating between getting this product and the Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard (these keyboards are media-centered keyboards, no numerical keypads in addition).I've used the diNovo Edge and I've liked it.I purchased this Microsoft product because it is both slightly cheaper and comes with a matching mouse.
The diNovo Edge has a lithium Ion battery and a recharging station which looks nice but is impractical because it stands the keyboard on an edge so that it cannot be used while charging (looks cool). This 7000 keyboard, however, is powered by 4 AA batteries, but this keyboard is just as slim and sleek as the diNovo keyboard. On another Microsoft webpage that profiles hardware like this, it is advertised that 4 AA batteries power this keyboard for "an average of over nine months."What is weird (and almost unnecessary) is to make the mouse (unlike the keyboard) come with a recharging base.It is as if Microsoft started with the newer (yet to be released) 8000 model of this keyboard/mouse set (which is going to cost more) and just started subtracting features. For example, whereas the diNovo and the 8000 model of this product have light-up features for dark room usage, this 7000 model does not. Also, the 800 comes with a hub that both the mouse and keyboard use instead of just a hub for the mouse (as in the 7000).
For me, I was disappointed when I started typing on this 7000 model keyboard because the key-depression sounds are as loud as my laptop or PC (some people however like a stronger physical and audible feedback from the keys as they type).diNovo has soft key-depression, and even though this 7000 model wasn't advertised with soft keys I hoped it was a basic feature. The Bluetooth technology works as expected. My favorite feature is the keyless Function buttons which can be redefined for your specific shortcuts. My mouse came with differing pressure levels for the right and left clicks and this has been irritating (the left-click is very sensitive).
In sum: the 7000 keyboard has a cheaper feel than the diNovo (mine is made of hard plastic and the diNovo is partly made of fiberglass); but I shook around this keyboard and pressed on its sides fairly hard: it's pretty durable. This is currently one of the most sophisticated keyboards on the market and it's the most Vista-ready keyboard currently. It's sleek, ergonomic, and rests no higher than your watch on the table.I'm satisfied.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro v2.0 Review

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro v2.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the last 2-3 few years, I've used no less than 4 different keyboards and more than 8 different mice.As a programmer, I spend hours (10+) each day typing on the computer and then even more time after hours playing computer games. As such, the quest for a comfortable keyboard/mouse has been a long one; it has become my quest for the "Holy Grail" of comfort.
I have to say that I am impressed with thie setup. The mouse is one of the most comfortable ones that I've EVER used. The keyboard is soft, tactile, and well laid out (spacing + key size). Both components operate without the slightest hint of lag, which is one big turn off I had in my previous experiences with wireless input devices. As far as the materials quality, both components feel top notch. While the keyboard squeaks a bit when you torque it, the plastics are certainly of high quality and the design is clean and functional (lots of handy quick launch buttons, all well laid out and labeled).
Setup was a breeze.I was somewhat concerned as it appeared that I would have to use PS/2 to connect the keyboard while my laptop does not have a PS/2 board. However, the base station only needs to be connected via one USB port for both keyboard and mouse. And if you are using the USB interface with a newer O/S, this setup is completely plug and play with no need for any driver installation (for basic features). Some of the advanced features (like the horizontal scroll) require driver installation.
So far as battery life is concerned, I can't comment at this time. But hopefully will be on par with similar models (Logitech at work has been on same battery for 3+ months now).
So give this keyboard a shot if you've been waiting on the technology to catch up with the concept, if you've been having pain with other keyboard/mouse setups, or if you just want a cool looking wireless setup.
------UPDATE-------
Since I've gotten this set in October (mid March now), I've been on the same set of batteries for the keyboard and I've changed batteries once for the mouse.Keep in mind that this is with regular 10+ hours of use a day.
I've had some issues with the signal intering with other wireless devices (it's either my cell phone, cordless phone, or the router). This will cause the keyboard and mouse (mostly mouse) to act quirky. However, this can be resolved by 1) creating more space between your workspace and the suspect interering item and 2) hit the connect button on the base station and then on the mouse (usually the mouse goes quirky) a few times and it'll usually correct itself.
Other than that, I have to say that I am still extremely satisfied with my purchase.Extremely comfortable!Cramping and pain in my hands have been reduced drastically since using this set. It's hard to believe that, before I got this set, I was feeling numbness and twitching in my right hand...still some pain now (you can't help it with 10+ hours on the computer), but it's much, much better.

Logitech Access Keyboard 600 Review

Logitech Access Keyboard 600
Average Reviews:

I am very impressed with the Logitech 600.

However, the SetPoint software that came with the keyboard is not the most current edition, so make sure you either update it after installation or download the latest version from the Logitech website.

After installing the software, set up the programmable keys to suit your particular needs. This should add a great deal of convenience.

The touch of the keys are positive with a little friction when being depressed. To me it presents a terrific over all feel. The arrow keys can be used for online scrolling.

If you are willing to take a few moment to learn the features of the 600, I believe you will love the keyboard. I found it to be a bargain priced, quality built keyboard!
