HP Quickdoc Docking Station Review

First off, I agree with the other reviewers - this should have come with a power supply.I shouldn't have to use the same one that came with my laptop, since the intention for most people is to be able to carry one with you as needed (it's not like these HPs are rated highly for battery life). And once I have the quickdock set up and everything plugged in, like everyone else I'd prefer to just leave it connected and plug/unplug my laptop as needed for instant access.Fortunately, in my case, I bought an extra power supply which was part of a package deal from HP that included a laptop case and usb mouse.Still, HP should have included this with the quickdock, although the recent price drop to $79 compensates for this somewhat.

That being said, I hooked this up to a new HP DV2210US laptop and it worked like a charm. No issues with pass-through video, and the laptop quickly recognized every device I attached to the dock, including an external cd/dvd drive, external hard drive, printer, keyboard, and mouse.Based on what I had read, I was expecting something to go wrong, but the only issue I encountered was getting video output, and that was a matter of adjusting Windows to recognize an external monitor and nothing at all to do with the Quickdock.I also like the fact that one cable on the dock provides everything - particularly power (recharging my laptop battery as well), along with video and access to all the quickdock ports. And as soon as I disconnect, the unit goes to sleep until I connect later. This is exactly what I was looking for, since my goal was to eliminate a larger desktop pc.At the same time, it doesn't require any quirky connections like older docking stations or take up any excess room on the desk.In fact, considering what you get it's smaller than I had expected.Since I just received this recently, I'll continue putting it through the paces and test the audio and s-video options as well.Beyond that, I think this is a worthwhile purchase for anyone looking for a quick and easy solution.

I use this awesome piece of equipment for my 17 inch widescreen dell desktop replacement...I have a logitech wirelss gamepad conncet, jbl on tour speakers, logitech cordless mouse and keyboard all at once...its perfect...my speakers connceted directly to the audio port...it works if you have 2.0 or 5.1 audio....and the stand is just great..it comes with all this info to help you deceide what height you set the stand at...also has a clipboard on the stand for documents...keeps everything organized...and if you need to be portable with your laptop..you just unplug the usb from the stand and your all set to go..converting your desktop replacement to a mean portable laptop. Definetely well worth the money. Also great tech support from kensington.

I bought this so that I could have a docking station at home for my work computer.I've had it for several years now with no issues; that's great reliability.Very convenient when you don't have to have to mess with monitor and mouse and keyboard cable just to work from home without using a notebooks little screen, keyboard, and tiny mousepad.

Kensington sd100s Notebook Docking Station with Stand K60721US Review

Kensington sd100s Notebook Docking Station with Stand K60721US

First off, I recently purchased a Dell M1530 laptop with Vista 32bit Ultimate. Unfortunately the computer does not come with a standard docking station, which I would have preferred as you can sit it down and be done. With the M1530 about 1" stick out on either side of the station but it works and looks fine. I also have the 9 cell battery which sticks out a bit in the back of the laptop and it still just fits without pressing any of the keys in the front which was another concern of mine, for normal laptops up to 1.5" thick or maybe even 2" you should be ok its just harder to slide the laptop in and out. But I'm convinced with some practice it will be no problem, I did knock off a key the first time when I was not being cautious but luckily it popped right back on.

I was looking for the next best thing, I didn't want to use an external monitor as that would add to clutter. Despite reading the other reviews citing issues with drivers I went ahead and purchased. Once it arrived I inserted the Windows Vista CD it came with and then plugged in the USB cord. It installed the driver (I believe only took the Ethernet driver off the CD) and internet/USB devices were working. Didn't notice any speed slowdown with the internet and I tested speed before/after the docking station. I nervously plugged in my speakers to the docking station but they also worked perfectly. NOTE: By default in Vista your laptop will use the new "USB Speakers" if they are connected, but you can change this simply by right clicking the speaker icon on bottom right of your taskbar, clicking playback devices, and setting your laptop speakers as default and then restarting the media program you are using.

So now I arrive home, put my laptop in the stand (this is the awkward part - for side-entry the best way is to slide it in without going deeper than the mousepad, then once its centered lower it until it hits the bottom - for top-entry its much more simple as you can just lower it from the top but my desk has a roof) and connect power/USB and I'm done. Though it is a bit odd looking its highly functional and kinda cool. The note holding is also very handy and my IR remote works nicely through the plastic at the bottom.
