You have to 'give focus' to each machine in turn, as they are being powered on (so the os can detect the monitor resolution (at least that's true for windows XP) ) but once both machines are powered up, you can flip between then just by pressing the little remote control switch. There are small dots on the remote to indicate which machine is which. (either 1 small dot for machine one or 2 dots for machine two). Would have been nice if they also made the LED's lighting up the remote switch different colors as well. (green for machine 1, blue for machine 2 etc). Using the DVI connections, the display is just as sharp as it was when it was connected directly to just 1 computer. My only regret is that I should have bought a 'bigger' adapter so I could have added additional computers.

Update - after 9 months it's now started generating spurious characters when I type (mainly on the delete & backspace characters). When I connect the keyboard directly to each computer, it doesn't do this. So I'm presuming it's the KVM. I'd have hoped for a product that would last longer than 9 months.
