(More customer reviews)I bought this board as part of a build for my father-in-law. His requirements were something small that he could use to surf the web, check email, use productivity software, maybe look at/edit some photos and videos and run Windows 7 quickly and smoothly. I looked at all kinds of mini-itx solutions from D510 (with and without ION), i3/H55 and an AMD 880G mobo. This one had by far the best price/performance ratio and I knew it would have enough horsepower to run Windows 7 and just about any application he would be likely to throw at it (he's not going to be gaming or watching 1080p video). With the e3300 processor, the CPU scored 5.9 and the graphics 4.3 on Windows 7 WEI. Once put together, the system ran very fast and the UIs all seemed very snappy.
When paired with the Celeron e3300 this combo is an unbeatable deal. This combo is not much more than a D510MO (Atom dual-core) motherboard but it has a DVI-D output, much better graphics, faster CPU and an additional SATA port. It runs cool and very quiet with one notable exception (see below). After a lot of research, this is definitely the best deal when it comes to building a low power, SFF system for web surfing, office productivity and even some light video/photo editing. The PCI slot was very welcome for installing a wifi card.Even though it is very small, the mobo was very easy to install and setup. There was not much more to it than plugging everything in and installing it in the case.
However, with this particular board, you will jump everytime you reboot your computer when is emits two very loud POST beeps (more like squeaks). There is apparently no way to disable this. There is also no POST screeen that displays the memory check or any system information. You just get a large Intel logo.If there were a way to disable the overly loud beeps I would have given this board 5 stars. It won't keep me from building more cheap SFF systems for friends & family with the board.Though the DG41AN seems to be newer and supports DDR3 memory for the same price so I might advise to check that one out instead. All the specs are exactly the same as this board except for the DDR3 memory support instead of DDR2 and it was released in Q2'10 instead of Q1'09.
I love working with these mini-ITX boards. I can't imagine using any other form-factor now.
