Samsung SyncMaster 941BW 19-inch LCD Monitor - Black Review

Samsung SyncMaster 941BW 19-inch LCD Monitor - Black
Average Reviews:

This monitor is an absolutely incredible value for the price.Cheap, great picture, top notch color, all the quality and speed you'd expect from a Samsung LCD monitor, and a really attractive design that looks great on your desk.

My only hesitation is that I think the ideal wide screen monitor is a couple inches larger than this (I use a 22" widescreen at work), but I just couldn't resist the price of this beauty when replacing my NEC MultiSync 17" CRT monitor at home (which was a very good monitor as well in it's day with great color).

You'll definitely want to drop the brightness level on this Samsung though as the default factory setting is pretty hard on the eyes.

I'm using the DVI connection and recommend you do the same if at all possible - DVI really helps sharpen up LCD's.

If your wallet is feeling a little thick lately, I'd get Samsung's 22", but otherwise you'll still be thrilled with this monitor.

HP W2007 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor Review

HP W2007 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Average Reviews:

This monitor is my first LCD and was an upgrade to a ViewSonic 17".I cannot get over how beautiful the colors and picture are.I find myself loading up old games and DVDs just to examine the quality.

It does not come with a DVI cable which I could not find any indication of on the box itself. Also, the information listed here on Amazon under "Technical Details" and "Product Description" differs in regards to the supported resolution. The "Technical Details" are correct. The suggested resolution is 1680 x 1050 and not 1440 x 900.I suspect the smaller resolution is probably correct for the 19" w1907 model.

I did not have a DVI cable already, so at first connected it using the included 15 pin cable and was very impressed on first use. Then I managed to get a DVI-D M/M cable and was even more impressed at the gorgeous picture quality.Definitely worth the extra purchase of a DVI cable.Just don't buy one at a local store where they go for upwards of 50 bucks.Amazon is a wonderful and very affordable alternative.

Mainly my experience with this monitor is in a Windows XP SP2 environment, although I do have a dual boot with Mandriva Linux. The printed instructions that came with the hardware were limited to a simplistic poster which was clear enough and the Windows software installation from the included CD went quickly and flawlessly.Getting the monitor setup in the Linux environment, however, was a bit of a chore and I still have yet to get it do display in the maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050.But that is probably more related to my own challenges using Linux.

I highly recommend this product. The widescreen aspect is outstanding for DVDs and iTunes videos.World of Warcraft never looked so beautiful on my system. In fact it's performed beautifully for every game I've thrown at it so far: WoW, Quake3, BF1942, BF2.Couldn't be happier.Except with maybe a 30". ;)

NuForce Icon Mobile headphone amplifier and USB DAC (blue color) Review

NuForce Icon Mobile headphone amplifier and USB DAC

I have both the Icon and the Icon Mobile. The Icon Mobile is very nice but if you do not need portable I would get the Icon, the bass is significantly better than the Icon Mobile which lacks the current to drive headphones (if you use in ear you should be ok but I did not test with that), in all other respects they are the same. Sound quality is excellent on both. Their customer service is also excellent.

Highly recommended.

Orinoco Gold 802.11b Wireless PC Card Review

Orinoco Gold 802.11b Wireless PC Card
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this card after failing to get Linksys' WPC11 to work with my Toshiba laptop (a common problem according to numerous users on Toshiba's tech support online forum).
Installation is trivial with Windows XP: just plug the card in and watch as WinXP recognizes the card and installs the driver.I've never even used the CD that came with it.
Want to upgrade the driver and firmware? No problem again, just use Windows Update.
My office-mate has a WPC11 for his Dell laptop and so we can easily compare signal strength.I am able to connect to the wireless network in the next building, and both my building and the other are brick. He's never once recieved a signal from that network. On the network in my building I always have a stronger signal than he does.
The bottom line - this is a great card that is well worth the extra money.

Belkin F5D8010 Wireless Pre-N 802.11x Pre-N Notebook PC Card Adapter Review

Belkin F5D8010 Wireless Pre-N 802.11x Pre-N Notebook PC Card Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a Senior Network Engineer and I have been doing various things in designing, building, and fixing all kinds of networking equipment for about 13 years now.I have installed from scratch several enterprise (or very large office) class wireless networks.I use the Belkin Pre-N wireless router and laptop cards at home for a few reasons:

First to get the best benefit out of the Belkin Pre-N card you'll want to use it in conjunction with the Belkin Pre-N router. Then you'll want to upgrade the Pre-N router firmware (or software) to the latest version available on the Belkin web site.

1) The Speed - 108 Mbps (Mega Bits Per Second) which is faster than the standard 100Mbps Ethernet card in most PC's.However you will never really see this full speed due to the error correcting, radio interference, and overhead in the wireless protocol, but the Belkin Pre-N laptop card in conjunction with the Belkin Pre-N router will be at least 2 times faster than your standard 802.11G wireless cards (including the built in wireless cards in most laptops today). One thing to note you will only see the greater speed if you use the Belkin Pre-N card along with the Belkin Pre-N router. If you don't you'll only get the standard 802.11G speed (54 Mbps). The Pre-N designates a few things they did to double the standard 802.11G speed and it actually means the precursor to the 802.11N standard that was just recently ratified by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.)Incidentally Belkin now has the N1 wireless line which is compliant with the new 801.11N standard and can get theoretical speeds up to 300 Mbps (almost twice the Pre-N speed).

You can check your speed to the internet at www.speakeasy.net/speedtest.You should check your speed before installing your card (to get a bench mark of your internet speed) and afterwards to make sure it's close to the same or hopefully much better. If you find your speed slows down after installing the Pre-N card, you would want to look at what other wireless networks are operating near you.NetStumbler is a great free program [...] that will not only tell you what wireless networks are operating near you but it will tell you the all important channel they operate on.Ideally you want your wireless network channel to be 4 channels away (if possible) from any other wireless network operating near you.So if you see a wireless network near you (not yours) that is operating on channel 1, then you want to set your wireless network channel to 5 or higher. This of course gets really interesting if you have several wireless networks because 802.11G (Pre-N being an extension of that) only has channels 1 - 11 to use.So you just have to do your best to have your channel as far away as you can from all other wireless channels. Most people don't know about all of this and leave their channel on the default (channel 1) so you might be able to switch to the higher channels without many being there. The other thing that can slow your wireless network (or even cause you to get disconnected) is 2.4 GHz cordless phones.802.11G (including Pre-N) and the slower older 802.11B standard (which operates at 11 Mbps) use the same 2.4 GHz band.I actually had to get rid of a couple of my 2.4 GHz cordless phones and buy some 900 MHz cordless phones (this was the standard before the 2.4 GHz cordless phones). The 2.4 GHz cordless phones are supposed to check for clear channels but many just go down the list from 1 to 2 to channel 3, etc because it's easier to develop the phones to do that.So when I took a phone call it would kick me off of the wireless network sometimes when my 2.4 GHz cordless phone hit the same channel as my wireless network.2) Range - The Belkin Pre-N card used in conjunction with the Belkin Pre-N router allows you to be much farther away from the Belkin router without loosing any speed or loosing your connection.Belkin boasts 8 times farther coverage than the standard 802.11G cards (like the one built into your laptop). And from what I've seen this is true. Now it may not sound like you need to be so far away from your router but the thing is, with standard 802.11G, as you get even 50 - 100 feet away from the wireless router (and especially as you add walls between your PC and wireless router) you may start to go down in your speed. The 802.11G wireless cards will start at 54Mbps and go down from there even all the way to 1 Mbps (very slow).I had this problem because I have a 2 story home with basement and my internet wiring is in the basement and therefore my Belkin Pre-N router is in the basement as well.I would then be working all the way on the second story (some 150 feet away) with several walls between my PC and wireless router and watch my wireless speed go down to 11 Mbps with the built in wireless card in my ThinkPad T43.With the Pre-N card in my ThinkPad, I maintain 108 Mbps everywhere I've gone, even outside in the yard.So the range benefit isn't just so you can go a block from your home and get wireless coverage but so that you can maintain a good wireless connection and good speed over it.3) Security - Belkin Pre-N supports WPA-TKIP, WPA-AES, WEP, and no encryption (clear). It's obviously unwise to have no encryption or clear because anybody nearby can see everything you send over the wireless network be it traffic to other computers, or things you send or receive from the internet (like your emails and website passwords).WEP is not much better and can be broken into when someone just sits in your neighborhood and sniffs less than 1 million of your network packets (usually less than 1 hour). Now having a stranger getting on your wireless network may not sound so bad but really it's like someone plugging in a network cable from their PC directly to yours only that you have no idea they did it and no idea who they are.So in addition to browsing the internet for free on your wireless network they can also try to connect to your PC, steal files from your PC, plant bad programs onto your PC, orwatch the traffic you send to the internet from your PC and watch things like the login and password to your bank, etrade, etc go by.Give that some thought before you say you don't care if people connect to your wireless network. Therefore I strongly recommend you use the WPA encryption type and preferably set the Pre-N router to accept only WPA-AES encryption (the hardest to break of all of them).Once you set the Belkin Pre-N router to this, it will only accept connections of this type. You will have to come up with a long key (or key word) but this is one of the reasons why WPA-AES very secure.Along with that I would set it to 802.11G only so that no 802.11B clients (operating at 11Mbps) can connect.Running both bands causes more interference and again slows down your wireless network.I would also recommend you uncheck the box in the Pre-N router configuration that says "Broadcast SSID".By doing this you will NOT broadcast the name of your wireless network and people will not even see it when they browse for wireless networks near them. This is yet another hurdle to someone getting on your wireless network along with the WPA-AES encryption. You will know the name of your wireless network (and you should change this to something only you know as well). When you try to connect, you'll have to manually setup a wireless network in Windows and put the name in manually (not hard at all).Keep in mind only Windows XP supports WPA so if you have any other version of Windows (like Windows 2000) you would have to get special software for it to connect to a wireless WPA network. It's probably worth an upgrade anyway because Windows XP Professional runs quite a bit better than Windows 2000 or the other older versions of Windows.Again you really want to run WPA encryption. Also you'll want to set a good password on your Belkin Pre-N router so people can't connect to it and change all of this secure stuff you've set.

Conclusion:The install of the Belkin Pre-N wireless card works well and is fairly easy. The drivers they have for the card are very good also. The Belkin Pre-N router configuration is all done through a web browser and it works well too (as long as you upgrade the firmware on it to the latest on the Belkin Web site). So all and all I don't really have anything bad to say about the Belkin Pre-N products. They work very well, do what they say they can, and are pretty fast, and trouble free. They are priced well too now especially since the N1 products have come out.So as long as you're O.K with the 108 Mbps speed you should be very happy with it.But if you absolutely want the 300Mbps, then check out the more expensive N1 products that Belkin now has. This would only really matter when you are sending traffic PC to PC in your home and would not make much difference when going to the internet for anything.Remember most home internet connects are 8 Mbps or less anyway and your Pre-N card is at 108 Mbps.So the N1 products may not be worth the extra money unless you do a lot of PC to PC copying or something. But the benefits of Pre-N are definitely worth it if only for the reason that the greater range allows you to stay at full speed even if you're farther away from your wireless router.

HP DeskJet 920C Printer Review

HP DeskJet 920C Printer

(More customer reviews)
I've been using a Canon BJC-250 for the past 5 years. I go Windows XP and the Canon doesn't work anymore. I was forced to buy a new printer. I saw the DPI resolution on this printer, which is the same as any other printer costing much more than this one. This was a tremendous change for me! I have never seen a better image come out of a printer in my life! Very detailed, very flowing. There are some exceptions to the printing. Buildings that are smaller can actually look blotchy on the photo paper, while water turns out perfect. Also, when printing out multiple pages, I've had the printer actually jam quite a few times. I've used maybe 20 pieces of paper, and 4 have jammed, two of them in a row. Other than these incidents, it does turn out to be a very worthy printer for the price. It is XP compatible and can be hooked up with the computer still on.You are not forced to buy the USB cable. If you already have a cable for your LPT Printer port, it will work also.I am using the LPT port. The printer is also quite large for what I'm used to (see dimensions).Make sure you'll have enough room for it on your desk.Paper loads from the bottom, not the top like my old printer, and can hold up to 100 sheets. This makes it easier than having to constantly reload the darn thing. After a few weeks, the jamming has stopped.Maybe the printer just needed to be broke in.You must install both ink cartridges with this printer (black and color). This is also new to me, with the Canon I had to constantly change cartridges; another perk from HP.The printer also takes quite a while to "warm up."Instead of just hitting the print button and watching it print, it takes maybe 1-2 minutes (depending on how long it has sat idle) to warm up before printing. It is quite loud when warming up and loading the first sheet of paper. After the first sheet is loaded, it's *amazingly* quiet.(Remember, I used to have a 1998 Canon! This is super cool by my standards!)The speed is something to be proud of, as well.Although warm up time can take a little bit longer, after it gets going, it's running very well!A nice high DPI photograph can take up to 1 minute to print at about 800dpi.I haven't tried it any higher yet.Black pages...maybe 10 seconds, if even that!!I changed my rating from 4 stars (on March 17) to 5 stars (on March 21) because the paper jams have stopped.Don't think you need a new printer? For this price, you deserve one anyways!Order one now!

Panasonic SDR-H200 30GB 3CCD Hard Disk Drive/SD Palmcorder with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Review

Panasonic SDR-H200 30GB 3CCD Hard Disk Drive/SD Palmcorder with 10x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took the plunge and bought two of them (One for my brother). My reason for this is:

1. the predominance of editing software available for MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, etc. as well as the ability to play on practically any regular DVD player. My Aunts, Uncles, relatives and friends do not care for, nor ever will buy a BluRay Player and a 42"+ Panny, although I do (more about that in a sec). Thus sharing compatibility is more important to me than obtaining the latest AVCHD, although I may for other reasons in the future. I know I can down convert but the extra steps, increased price, limited industry supported software (for unconverted .mt2s files), the new h.264 compression standard and the increased horsepower required for PC use are all compelling reasons to stick with SD in the home and for sharing - not only the finished product but also raw footage with others and having zero complications.

I have a 2GB RAM, P4, 3.0 Ghz, etc. laptop but 8 out of every 10 others I know use centrino technology, 1.8 Ghz, 256-512 RAM, etc. which just isn't gonna drive h.264 footage nicely is it. Same goes for desktop setups. Try downloading and watching 720p video from the Windows Media HD Video website if your computer leans more towards the latter to see what I mean. SD footage won't encounter these snags. Once again, I am speaking from the point of view of sharing with the people I know who for the most part will never upgrade to the latest PC / Home theatre (or at least not in the next 5-10 years).

2. USB 2.0 Hi Speed Transferring, i.e. 100 MB files transferred from card/ HDD in about 15 seconds. Editing, Rendering, Authoring is a breeze.

3. I wanted a MEMORY MAKER, not a home movie studio. This unit fits in the palm of your hand (almost bordering on too small) and easily slips into a LowePro camera bag.

4. I have a 32-bit PCMCIA SD/SDHC card reader (not 16) that I bought to replace my laptop 4-in-1 media reader. Standard readers that most people have today on their desk or built in to their laptop will not read the new SDHC cards available at 4GB+ capacities. More mention of this should be made in my opinion. Also, these new cards will not work in older devices that do not support SDHC. The SDR-H200 does support SDHC.

I experimented recording to the card and then transferring footage to my laptop. The 32bit cardBus adapter is 10-16X faster than USB 2.0. It is just awesome. The reason I mention this is because of the 1 major gripe I encountered, Namely...

...Transferring HDD footage requires disconnecting the battery from the unit and connecting a DC cable to it from the AC power adapter. Then USB 2.0 cable out to computer. Sooooooo, this means always needing to be around power instead of just turning on the camera and transferring the HDD footage randomly anywhere. It's not that big of a deal but I like having Zero restrictions ;) So using SDHC cards frees me from that restriction, hence the mention of the 32bit cardBus reader (YES they exist - interfirm - http://www.synchrotech.com/products/media-adapters_01.html)! ***If you follow suit and get this adapter make sure you download and install the correct driver from the website because there's no Windows XP/ Vista substitute that will do it for you like we're used to!!

Another Note - if you transfer files directly from the card they show up as .mod files. Windows media player 11 recognizes them and plays. Other players don't, so you simply change them to .mpg. Sektionschef created a great program that automatically converts multiple .mod files (i.e. all of your stored clips) to the .mpg extension all at once! Very cool. It's called

5. 3CCD over single chip, this unit uses 3CCD RGB, nice. A handy F1.8 for dimly lit environments works pretty good. The 10x optical zoom is very smooth, speed contollable by the amount of pressure used on the toggle switch and there was no focus hunting in Auto mode. The O.I.S. doesn't help much when zoomed in on a subject and you're moving around so staying wider helps unless you're into using tripods. But zooming in fully on a WestJet airplane taking off produced good results.

Another nice feature is the auto fade in and fade out when you start and stop recording. It effectively smooths over those slight but noticeable camera movements that sometimes occur when the record button is pressed non-gently, awkwardly, haphazardly or whatever. This setting can be switched on or off. I like it, but you may not want to use it if you're into utilizing post-editing software because you can't remove an already recorded fade.

Here is a few clips I uploaded you can check out. I recommend downloading and playing the clips on your computer video player over using the website streaming player because the web player compresses the video resolution...

Finally, does the footage measure up? YES. There is no comparison to watching footage on the laptop as compared to a monitor, TV or Plasma. When I watched it on my laptop I was like hmmmm, oh yeah, that's pretty good. But when I ran my footage from the camera through a Yamaha RX-V2700 Receiver with 1080i/1080p upsacling to a 42" Panasonic Plasma via HDMI I was blown away! You will be extremely PLEASED if you run your footage through a home theatre HDMI setup. The same goes for a DVD disc.

I also tried S-Video out directly to TV with included AV cables (no HDMI/ no receiver) and I would still rate the footage as GREAT. Fortunately, you can do this running on straight battery power and a remote control is included! I also ran it through my 23" Samsung LCD HDTV computer monitor and... you guessed it, great. In all cases the picture turns out to be very crisp, clean and vibrant.

So although I love the new HiDef footage, etc. I took my chances in sticking with SD for home video purposes and am more than pleased. No regrets. The unit shoots in 16:9 or 4:3 and has no problem saturating my entire 42" screen. Even my mother who is expecting plenty of baby footage from my brother was more than impressed and could tell that it was a quality pic.

So, if you are looking for a memory maker and anticipate bringing it along on trips or to the ball game or whatever you'll be happy to own this unit.

The menu is simple and clean, and you can easily switch from recording to HDD/ SD/ SDHC card at the push of a button. There is plenty of manual settings you can tinker with but auto mode does the trick nicely.

It is simple, handy and fun which is exactly what I wanted. This unit delivered that. 4 out of 5 stars for not being able to transfer HDD footage to computer without power adapter (but to its credit, the adapter is conveniently small). Since it also holds 7 hours of highest quality footage this shouldn't be too much of a bother unless you're a frequent downloader. I peronally will buy an 8GB SDHC card (110 minutes) off of eBay and leave it in the unit so that I'll have options baby :)

The unit comes with ImageMixer editing software and is very easy to use and import your video with directly from the camera - it's a good added value piece of software.

This is my first review here and always appreciate when others have taken the time to share their experience with new products that I'm interested in buying too. I hope my taking the plunge this time helps. Enjoy!

One more thing... READ the manual you lazies, there are things you should and need to know.

P.S. It takes decent one push 2MP still photographs too in a pinch (not outstanding but not too bad - it's nice knowing that it's there if necessary)! You can find a still I posted here...

P-Touch PT-9500PC Industrial Labeling System for PC or Mac Review

P-Touch PT-9500PC Industrial Labeling System for PC or Mac
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received my Brother PT-9500PC Label Printer about 9 months ago and I've used it regularly. Setup was very easy on my Macintosh. Rather than using the software on the provided disk, I downloaded the latest software and drivers from the Brother website and was up and running in minutes. I did have problems getting it to work when attached to a USB hub, but that could have been a problem with the hub rather than the printer. Once I plugged it directly into the computer, all was well. [edit: That hub has since been found to be defective]

Full version info, for those interested:
* Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Build 10C540)
* P-touch Editor 5.0 (Version 5.0.031)
* PT-9500PC Driver (Version 3.0.1)

The print quality of the labels is excellent. This is a 360 DPI printer, so it has a resolution similar to the early laser printers. Curves and edges appear rounded and smooth. You can see the pixels if you look really close, but print quality looks fine for most purposes. This means that you can use interesting fonts, including fonts with fairly thin lines if you want. Print speed is very good, and the printer can cut the tape completely between each label, or just score the label and leave the backing paper connected - this makes it easy to peel off the next sticker when printing a string of labels.

The software is much better than I was expecting - labeling software is often fairly lame. P-touch Editor 5.0 is a well put-together and professional looking software package. I haven't yet used all the features, such as auto-increment and bar-codes, but just from experimentation, those features appear to be easy to get to and use.

A few software deficiencies: I haven't found a way to rotate text to arbitrary angles (I was trying to place text diagonally). Also, exact positioning of items on the label can be tedious, which is an issue if you are trying to make labels for connectors on electronic devices as I am.Lastly, the font size controls are a bit weird, in that if you enlarge a font beyond what the bounding box can contain, the text stops getting bigger but the numerical font size keeps going up.This is an issue because I often want to use the largest text I can on small labels, but making all the text sizes match exactly can be difficult. One thing I just noticed recently is that it does not have a way to create cable labels (flags) like the hand-held P-Touch labelers do.

The only reason I gave the product 4 stars instead of 5: The maximum print width is 27.1mm (just over 1"). This means that on the 1.5" labels, you get about 0.2" margins at the edges of the tape whether you want them or not. With smaller tape sizes, you can print to within 0.04" of the edge. This may or may not be an issue for you, but it is a fact that is buried in the tech specs. While it is true that it can print on all the listed tape sizes up to 1.5", it can't print near the edges of the 1.5" tape like it can on the narrower tapes.

All in all, I'm very happy with this product and I expect it to provide a long useful life just like my hand-held Brother P-touch labeler.

Hauppauge 1120CN WinTV-HVR-950 Hybrid Video Recorder Review

Hauppauge 1120CN WinTV-HVR-950 Hybrid Video Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased one of these new USB tuners earlier this week and have been playing with it for about 2 days now.

For reference, I have an AMD 4000+ single-core system with 1 GB RAM and an nVidia 7800 GT video card.

Install was a breeze.Included documentation was minimal but sufficient to get you "up and running".

GREAT video quality, but taxes your CPU if you can not use video hardware acceleration. Must use a dedicated USB2 port for best results.Do NOT use a hub if you can avoid it, especially if you have a USB WLAN adapter already connected to it! Using video card hardware acceleration causes image corruption and I have not been able to resolve this issue with drivers, etc.Still working on it.However, the CPU is able to handle the load (barely) with excellent image quality.PVR function is awesome. The ability to use TitanTV scheduling is very helpful.Recorded image quality exceeds that of what is displayed "live" on my machine, at least in full screen.Works for both analog cable & ATSC (OTA HD).

The included antenna for ATSC is not very good - invest in a better, amplified antenna for best results. It would probably be great for sitting in a big city airport terminal, though.

Overall - very pleased with the purchase.

12/22/06 Update regarding hardware acceleration: I still have not been able to successfully make hardware acceleration work with the combination of an AMD 4000+ processer and nVidia 7800 GT or nvidia 7950 GX2 video cards. This does not impact standard def programming at all, but HD programming can get a little choppy using only the CPU.However, hardware acceleration works PERFECTLY on my older Dell XPS2 laptop with a 2 GHz Pentium M and an nVidia 6800 Ultra video card.

Compatibility with digital and analog signals.
Acceptance of video feeds from a camera or satellite box.

The small, pocketable size lets you easily take it everywhere. View larger. Play and Record Television Digitally
The WinTV-HVR-950 is a simple-to-use device that brings over-the-air high definition ATSC digital TV as well as analog cable TV directly to your PC desktop or laptop. With the additional included antenna, it can also receive analog TV broadcasts, and it can also accept video feeds directly from a camera or satellite box.
More versatile than a DVR, the WinTV-HVR-950 is a pocket-sized device that simply plugs into your PC's USB port. It features a built-in digital ATSC over-the-air TV receiver. If you live in one of the more than 200 cities in the United States that receives ATSC digital TV, you'll have immediate access to as many as 1500 digital TV stations. ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HDTV standard for North America. ATSC broadcasts range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. (To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at titantv.com.)
A portable digital TV antenna, which can be used to receive digital TV up to 10 miles from an ATSC transmitter, is included with the PVR . (To check the ATSC digital transmissions in your area, input your zip code at titantv.com) If you live in an area where you can't currently receive ATSC digital TV, the WinTV-HVR-950 can still be used to watch and record analog TV from cable TV or a TV antenna. Compatibility with Microsoft's Windows Media Center means that you can watch TV as well as your recordings with Windows Media Center. The included WinTV application also lets you watch your shows in a window or on full screen.
More about PVR Technology
PVR stands for PC Video Recorder. The WinTV-HVR-950 is a PVR that allows you to play television through your computer and record the broadcasts digitally. PVR doesn't use standard videocassettes; instead, it uses your computer's hard disk to store the broadcasts.
Once you record a television show to your PC's hard drive, you can burn a CD or DVD that will allow you to play the show back on another computer or on your television. With video editing software (not included with the WinTV-HVR-950), you can even edit the shows. This is a great feature if you want to save clips from movies or sitcoms, or keep your favorite player's grand slam or TD kick-off return for posterity.
And just like a typical VCR, the WinTV-HVR-950 offers you several recording options, depending on your play back needs. If you want the highest quality recording for playback through your HDTV, all you need is enough hard drive space to support high-quality recording. By using the lowest recording option, you can use your WinTV-HVR-950, along with an inexpensive video camera, as a low-cost on-site video surveillance system. In fact, the possibilities of how you can take advantage of the WinTV-HVR-950 are endless.

SanDisk SDDR-88-A15 8-in-1 USB 2.0 Hi-speed Reader (Retail Package) Review

SanDisk SDDR-88-A15 8-in-1 USB 2.0 Hi-speed Reader
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In my opinion this is the best memory card reader you could get. The price at Amazon is a good deal, plus with the free shipping you won't make a mistake. Here is the summary:
Pros:
1. It looks elegant. The colour combination of silver and black makes it look like a serious tool you could display even in an office environment.
2. Comes with a bonus stand to enable the display at an upright position. Saves space in a cluttered environment.
3. Comes with another USB cable to you could position it horizontally (flat) on a table. You will have to keep the stand, in this case.
4. USB 2.0 speed which means faster transfer speed.
5. No drivers needed if you use the latest Windows XP or Mac OS X operating system. I use the Mac and there is nothing to install.
6. 8 in 1 memory card reader. Try finding that in othe products at that price and design. You connect as much memory cards that could fill the slot and they will appear individually in your desktop. This means you can transfer files between memory cards without having to transfer and use your desktop as a holding place.
7. Each slot has its own individual lights to indicate correct installation and file activity transfer.
8. Light and portable.
Cons:
1. Light - plastic construction. Feels fragile, but I guess SanDisk knows better on making it sturdy.
2. The cable for the bonus stand is long, but the extra cable supplied to lay the product flat is short - and I mean short! This is a plus for those who bring this with their portable computers and don't need the extra long cable. A big minus for those who wish to forego the stand, but decide to use with their desktop on a desk. You will need to connect it to a hub if your USB plug is nowhere close.
All in all a great buy for the price.

Compaq iPAQ 3765 Color Pocket PC Review

Compaq iPAQ 3765 Color Pocket PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Besides all the obvious ways in which the Compaq iPaq 3765 is a more robust electronic organizer than any version of the Palm, there are two features or characteristics of the iPaq 3765 that deserve special mention. The first is the fact that the iPaq 3765 is a full-featured eBook, running Microsoft Reader with ClearType display technology. Now, perhaps that doesn't make you trip over your keyboard as you scramble to order one, but consider: You now have a full dictionary in your PDA.You also have an English to Spanish dictionary in your PDA.Or French to English.Or whatever you need. You also have Jack Welch's new best seller to peruse on your next flight, or while you're waiting at the doctor's office. You have the full operations manual for your iPaq right there on the iPaq itself! How many times have you actually had the manual for a device readily available at the moment you actually needed the damn thing? The fact that the iPaq 3765 is an easy-to-read eBook (with adjustable font sizes, book marking and other features) is a remarkable increase in usefulness over the conventional Palm OS PDA.
But the real advantage of the Compaq iPaq 3765 is the fact that its screen is a marvel of both clarity (hence an actually readable eBook) and touch-sensitivity.One of the most annoying characteristics of Palm PDAs is the insensitivity of the touch screen. You often have to tap the screen multiple times before it responds. And using it for graffiti writing is an enormous pain in the neck for even the relatively adept graffiti user.Your strokes are continuously misinterpreted. All the back spacing to re-stroke letters has caused many a Palm owner to give up on using graffiti as their most common mode of data entry. But with the iPaq 3765 each stroke is recogized instantly, with almost no re-stroking required. No kidding. As long as you're even close to matching the model graffiti stroke, the iPaq accurately recognizes the stroke! You can actually write with the damn thing! And when you tap the screen to select an entry in your contacts list, or choose one tab or the other, or highlight a bit of text, voila... the screen responds instantly and accurately. There are virtually no re-taps, no re-strokes, no mistakes. It's a touch screen made to be touched.
After years of using a Palm, including a color screen Palm IIIC, I feel like I have died and gone to heaven. The Copmpaq iPaq 3765 is head and shoulders better than the Palm OS offerings because it is a far more robust PDA, with marvelous eBook capabilities and an order of magnitude better screen in terms of clarity and the all important touch sensitivity.

Cisco SD205 5-port 10/100 Switch Review

Cisco SD205 5-port 10/100 Switch
Average Reviews:

This Linksys SD205 switch rules. First, its mesmerizing because its the same size as the Ipod. Second, it does what its advertised such as connecting other computers together and most importantly, it regenerates signal. I was seriously considering buying a repeater, but they cost a couple hundred dollars. Technically, a hub is supposed to do the same thing but who wants that passive crap. The signal in my network started to attenuate and needed regeneration. This badboy fixed it and its back to full strength. I highly recommend this product if you are needing a component to branch out your network.

Product Description:
This newly-redesigned Linksys 5-Port 10/100 Switch can significantly increase your network traffics speed. A switch serves the same function as a hub in a network design -- tying your network equipment together. But unlike a simple-minded hub which divides the networks bandwidth among all the attached devices, a switch delivers full network speeds at each port. Installing this cost-effective 5-Port 10/100 Switch can potentially increase your network speed by five times. It is the perfect way of integrating 10Mbps Ethernet and 100Mbps Fast Ethernet devices, too. All five ports are auto speed negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you dont have to worry about the cable type. Each port independently negotiates for best speed and half- or full-duplex mode, for up to 200Mbps of bandwidth per port.
