(More customer reviews)I ordered this docking station to use my old 2.5 inch SATA hard drive. I also had a requirement to recover my old crashed IDE hard disk. I need to try my hands on that(IDE recovery) to see whether it works!!!

The product arrive on time and was intact. The product includes power cords for US, UK and Europe. I plugged this docking station into my laptop running vista. The product was installed automatically as Vista has built-in drivers for it. I haven't tried this on Linux / Mac. But it should work (as the manufacturer claims that it does).

As soon as I docked my 2.5" SATA hard drive it was recognized and the partitions of hard drive appeared in "My Computer". I haven't bench marked the data transfer speeds but it is decent enough.

The docking station is a bit bulky, so the 4 stars!!! Overall I would recommend this product for anybody who want to use their old hard drives(SATA and IDE both) as spare drives for backup and restore. This can also be used if you are replacing your hard drives on your PC or if you are migrating from IDE to SATA.

The product doesn't include the IDE connectors and LP4 power cords. So 4 stars for that as well!!!

(More customer reviews)Well I suppose this is a good board and Amazon was very quick in replacing it, but out of the box I was unable to enter bios. I was able to update to the latest version no problem and boot into windows vista fine but when pressing F2 all I would get was a blank black screen andI would have to reset. Strange problem, I know. There is one more problem and it's that my computer restarts at random, All parts are brand new and for my sanity sake I hope that is related to the motherboard as well.
Update: Setting OCZ memory voltage to 1.9 fixed the restarting problem, Thanks. It will be a few months before I get a chance to work on the bios problem. In the mean time if anyone else has same problem and comes up with a fix please write review.

I purchased this drive to replace the 100gb, 7200 rpm Hitachi that came with my Dell Inspiron 9400.So far the drive has been equally as quiet, a little bit faster and of course much larger.I have noticed none of the vibration that a another reviewer noted.I have reinstalled Windows XP Pro on this hard drive at least five times in order to give the drive a good test copying and modifying files.So far this drive has passed every test with flying colors.

Pros:

Size - 320gb = lots of storage space.

Warranty - 5 year warranty (unheard of in a laptop hard drive)

WD's ShockGuard(tm) technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks during shipping and handling and in daily operation.

WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long term reliability due to less head wear and improved shock tolerance.

Free-fall sensor - As an added layer of protection, if the drive (or the system it's in) is dropped while in use, WD's free-fall sensor detects that the drive is falling and, in less than 200 milliseconds, parks the head to help prevent damage and data loss.

(More customer reviews)Very easy to install.I had to download the updated drivers for XP, but once I did that it was recognized at once.It replaced a USB hub and a smart media drive and also let me connect my zip drive, printer and scanner to my laptop at once.When I need to take the notebook with me I can disconnect two cords and fly knowing that I can reconnect it as easily when I get back to the office.Now I can take digital pictures, view them from the integrated smart media drive, edit them and back the whole thing up to the flashmedia drive for storage.
Life is good.

(More customer reviews)The Maxtor 160Gb SATA II harddrive is a good drive for a cheap price.Installation was easy and windows immediately recognized the drive.Although small for todays standards I use it as a c:/ drive and have a much larger drive as a d:/ drive for file storage and backup.Keeping 2 separate drives keeps the computer running faster and protects the computer from getting wiped out completely.i recommend this drive.
