(More customer reviews)Before buying any UPS, do some homework. It's not as simple as reading the watts sticker on your computer. Get to know what volt-amps means and decide if you need lots of battery run time or not. I believe many people end up buying too much UPS capacity (which is fine if you can afford it) because mfgrs' "wizards" are not very accurate. This unit, with its fairly low rating, is fine for my needs:

My requirements are to protect my equipment from surges and sags, to give me enough time to save and shut down when the power fails, and to run my DSL modem and WiFi base station for a few hours off and on during an extended outage (we get hurricanes on Cape Cod). I do not need server-class UPS backup, meaning automated shutdown and lengthy run time.

This unit works great for all of the above. It would not run my iMac G4 for very long beyond an emergency shutdown, but that's fine in my case.

The supplied (and downloadable new versions) of Bulldog software are terrible, however. I did not downgrade the unit's star rating for that because you don't need it.

On my Mac, Bulldog only served to display annoying false warnings and would lose connection with the UPS whenever the computer sleeps. Don't even bother installing it.

(More customer reviews)Really for the price it is hard to beat this monitor stand.It is excellent quality and comes with everything you need to mount it to a desk.I have a pair of 26" Asus LCD's hanging from it.They are rock stable and in perfect adjustment.

All that said, the reason for 4 stars is that you need a really sturdy desk.Your average particle board desktop may allow a good bit of flex if you mount of a big pair of monitors.I had to augment the setup by pairing the clamp with a pair of aluminum plates that distribute the load across a larger area.Without them the monitors wobbled a good bit when you bumped the desk and I believe there was actually some risk of cracking the desktop.It would be nice if their base clamp was larger or came with such an adapter to suit a larger range of desk surfaces.

Otherwise, it is a fantastic product and if you are mounting it to a surface that is really substantial, I would not hesitate.

If the screen is totally black there is a little light leak at the top and bottom, but it's not noticeable once any type of picture is being displayed. It also does a fair job displaying at other resolutions when you switch from the native 1920x1080. The sound comes from only one speaker, but it is adequate for most of the stuff you do on a computer (dinks, donks, buzzes and simple dialog). If you want to listen to music I would recommend going with external speakers. The only other rub is although you can tilt the screen it doesn't go up and down, but hey...It only cost me $179 for a 1920X1080 monitor. Keep in mind that it also has HDMI and came with the feaking HDMI cable....NICE! Why these cables cost $30 in Wal-mart for the cheep ones is beyond me?????? All in all a definite 2 thumbs up!

AMD Sempron 140, Socket AM3, 2.7 GHz, 1 MB Cache, 45 Watts, SDX140HBGQBOX Review

(More customer reviews)Since this was an used item this review won't carry much weight for a similar new product. Never-the-less, the reason I bought this CPU is that in spite of the fact that AMD says it is a single core "Sargas" processor, it is in reality a dual core "Regor" processor with one core disabled. If this chip is installed on a motherboard with an AMD SB710 (or SB750) southbridge that second core can usually be unlocked. In this case the unlocking was accomplished without a hitch or any instability in the processor, so now I have a 2.7GHz dual core processor for about half the price of the actual Athlon II x2 CPU. My Windows Experience Index went from a 4.1 to 5.5. The 4.1 was with the disabled core and was the CPU's rating. The 5.5 is with the second core unlocked, however 5.5 is the rating of my video card (the Index uses the lowest rating to set the index). My CPU rating is now 6.3 and is now capable of both multi-thread operation and running multi-programs at the same time. I have been told this chip will overclock to around 3.4GHz with no ill effects because the chip runs very cool in the first place (mine at 2.7GHz runs at about 28 degrees C [82.4 degrees F] and only pulls 65W TDP which is, compared to equal or lessor CPU's that pull 95W TDP, very low power consumption). Of course the Sempron chip [one core disabled] only pulls 45W TDP. Therefore, for the budget minded home builder, the Sempron 140 is a golden opportunity to get a high end CPU for a low budget price.

I did have to adjust the clarity to my liking, again this was simple with the buttons right on the front. I have external speakers on my computer so the fact that this monitor has no speakers suits me fine. I am not a gamer, but rather do a lot of word processing and surfing. All in all, the price is great, the warranty is for three years, the screen is crisp and bright, all the ingredients for one happy camper! I, with clear conscience, recommend this monitor!

(More customer reviews)First of all. This is an extremely sturdy stand. I have it holding a 24" Widescreen LCD on the left and a 21" LCD on the right. It could fit two 24" but it would be kinda tight (limited arm movement).

Bought from OutletPC. Arrived on the 5th day. Very sturdy packing. Internal packing excellent.

Great instructions for assembly. There are only 3 parts to the stand. The clamp is heavy duty and extremely sturdy. For the price this can't be beat. Uncluttered my desktop and gives so much extra desk space.

(More customer reviews)This keyboard has a comfortable feel, but I prefer my 7-year-old original Microsoft Natural keyboard, as Microsoft has really fouled up the layout of this one.
The "home" and "end" keys have been moved, the "delete" key enlarged to twice its original size, and the "insert" key is entirely missing.What's more, the F keys have been replaced by Microsoft Office control keys (open, save, undo, print, etc.), and if you want them to act how they're supposed to, you have to manually turn on "F Lock" each and every time you boot--this key cannot be controlled by software!(There is a registry hack for Win2k/XP that can effectively disable "F lock" on the PS/2 version, but if you're using USB or another OS, then you're up a creek.)
It's a shame Microsoft had to add these annoyances to an otherwise good keyboard.

(More customer reviews)I just installed this memory in a Dell Inspiron 531. I know it's helpful to know if it goes into the exact computer you have.

It did give it a noticeable boost in speed. I have the AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core processor with dual channel memory. The memory must be installed in pairs, and this Kingston item IS a pair ( 2 modules, each 1 Gig = 2 gig total.) My computer came with 1 Gig ( 2 modules of 512MB each,)so I went from 1 Gig to 3. Don't trust the Dell Support Center software. After I installed the memory, the Dell software showed I had only 2 Gig total, but the Windows SYSTEM control panel showed 3007MB ( 3 Gig. )

Be careful, a lot of the search results you get end up being the wrong memory. Every time I thought I had the right memory it was either SODIMM memory, which isn't the right kind for the 531, or it was only a single module, not 2. This is also the correct voltage (1.8) and speed ( PC2-5300 which is the same as 667 Mhz )I wasn't concerned with overclocking, just compatability. Some of the more expensive gaming memory is rated 800Mhz but they are 2.0 or 2.1 V and might have to be manually adjusted to work, which sounded like a pain, plus I think that'w why the Amazon reviews were not as good.

The cover of the computer was easy to remove ( just 2 screws.) Be sure to have an anti-static wrist band on and clap it to unpainted metal. then you just have to push the little plastic locking handles outward on the memory sockets and install the modules. They sit easliy in the slots, but you have to push down pretty firmly to get the locking handles to pop back up. Two of the locks locked by theselves as I pushed down. I had to help the other two.

(More customer reviews)Perhaps one of Amazon's minions will eventually update the listing to give a more accurate description of this item.Until then, here's the straight poop from a recent buyer.The drive is *bulk*, meaning it's a bare drive with a CD (which contains drivers that don't install with Windows XP and a short .PDF manual).It comes in bubble wrap.No warranty enclosed, no paper docs, no retail packaging (the last not necessarily a bad thing).The drive is black, with a hard-wired foot-long USB cable running out the middle back of the drive.The drive appears to be solidly built, not much larger than a floppy disk.After several attempts to install (the .PDF wasn't much help) that resulted in two drives (A: and B:) being installed in Hardware, I finally came around to the conclusion that a true "hot-plug" install (have the laptop "on" and simply plug the drive into a free USB port) was the only way to get the drive to properly install in Windows XP.I hesitated doing this at first, as previous experience with other USB-powered drives led me to believe that it was better to plug the drive in with the laptop powered off, then let Windows recognize it and load the drivers during Windows startup.Anyway, the drive works great.I deducted a star due to the bulk packaging, etc.

I have 2 23" monitors on the bottom and 2 22" on the top and the mount holds them with no problem.You don't need to buy on of those $200+ stands.This one clamps on to the edge of the desk and only takes about 30 minutes to get all the monitors set up on it.

Shipping was fast, but had to send an email to the seller to get tracking number.

There are four pivot points on each arm so that you will be able to place each monitor where you want it you can actually place the monitors side by side unlike what the picture shows.

I am very satisfied with this stand and would recommend to anyone how wants to run four monitors. I also believe that you could mount 4 24" monitors as long as you don't exceed the 13 lbs. limit for each arm.It looks like there is enough room after I mounted my 23: monitors to hold a 24" monitor.

Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card ( XS71 ) Review

(More customer reviews)I left Creative's sound blaster USB because they did not support Vista; I searched Amazon and found The Diamond by searching for "Vista sound Cards", I ordered it overnight, it arrived, but the software did not work with Vista although the generic windows driver does.

I called Diamond, because the card inside said "Do not return to vendor call us first."I did and was told, impatiently, that the box did not say Vista and that I should return it to Amazon.

So I am going to keep it, it does work, where the Creative did not.I received about half of what I thought I had bought.

Amazon showed this under a Vista search, Diamond was rude.The hassel of returning it and starting over, is too much.

So Cavet Emptor - be careful, make sure it is what you want, if it does not say Vista do not buy it no matter what the website claims.

Diamond has performed well in the past.

And, yes, I should have been more careful, I was too easily misled, by my pressing need for sound, and my desire to get on with it.
