this is a great procesor, runs incredibly fast and can be overclocked at 3.5Ghz just by changing the multiplier. The best thing of this procesor is that if u have the right motherboard (i uses a GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P to unlock it)u can unlock the other 2 cores and instantly get an Phenom II 950 BE

Seagate ST3200822A-RK 200 GB ATA Internal Hard Drive Review

Average Reviews:

Purchased product for $139 in Nov 2004. Works well, and relatively silent. Use it as an external hard drive (USB enclosure). No Problems with product. Seagate rebate was a different issue altogether...

Rebate check arrived on 3/10/2005 (with an expiry date that I realized afterwards was 3/7/2005). I deposited check only to have it bounce because of the stale date (cost me $12 - which, of course, Seagate wont reimburse). Seagate has promised to mail me another check...Its April 30, 2005 today, and I was told I should get it in 5 weeks. 8 months to get $50...no wonder we all hate mail-in rebates.

Pioneer External USB 2.0 DVD / CD Writer (DVR-X122S) Review

Pioneer External USB 2.0 DVD / CD Writer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just an FYI for Mac users, this unit works just fine with Macs even though it does not specifically list support. I got it for the DVD-RAM capability and Mac OS X (10.4.x) supports that feature natively, so no problems there. I also removed it from the case and installed it in my G5 Tower to replace the stock drive. To be clear, I did not need to remove it, it works as is off the USB 2.0 port, I just wanted less cable clutter. Anyway, works just fine as an internal drive, although I haven't checked booting yet. The stock drive was a Pioneer also, so that may be one reason for good native support.

From what I understand DVD-RAM is one of the few truly archival mediums and this is one of the few Mac compatible (although not officially) DVD drives with DVD-RAM read/write support built in.

The Dymo LabelWriter 400 Turbo works great. What doesn't work well is the "No-Monthly-Fee DYMO Stamps(tm) postage labels."Everything works great until you want to purchase postage for your package you are shipping. With the free software provided you can print a wide range of pre-selected postage amounts, but you cannot print a specific dollar amount. To ship your Priority Mail package with the correct amount of postage, you will still have to go to the Post Office or purchase a $9.95 monthly service plan.Of course, this is not explained to you until after you purchase the unit and set up your account. In my opinion the "No-Monthly-Fee DYMO Stamps(tm) postage labels" is clearly bait and switch. If you ship a few packages a month, the monthly service charge is not worth the cost.

8GB 800MHZ DDR2 Ecc Fb Dimm Review

8GB 800MHZ DDR2 Ecc Fb Dimm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'll begin by saying that I have 24GB of Kingston Value Ram memory installed on my workstation as it routinely uses 35-50% or more of that for compute intensive tasks and serious multi-tasking.I initially purchased the Value Ram because it was the cheapest quality ram available. My workstation is also used for gaming and I have not noticed any memory bottlenecks due to the ECC FB-DIMMs.While memory is only part of the equation, performance in games is stable almost to a fault in COD4, Medieval Total War, COD5, and Eve Online.Frame rates and load times are very consistent - my only complaint would be that the FSB is tied to the multiplier and does not like frequency modifications as I overclock, but then again server components aren't really meant for overclocking, are they?

As I've used and been very satisfied with Kingston products in the past, I knew these Dimms were backed by a solid warranty. This was an issue because I've had a couple of defective Kingston FB-DIMM 800 memory modules. Both of them had sloppily applied thermal interface material that was under or on the gold pins. These modules were also from different lots.I had not overclocked this lot when the DIMMS failed, as I was breaking the system in.I am uncertain what caused the failure, but it was almost certainly a quality control issue.Normally I would knock them down a few stars, but as Kingston backs these products with a lifetime warranty, other than being slightly inconvenienced, I will not complain.

The Dimms were simply a steal when I ordered them direct from the Kingston website, and were honestly, cheaper than they were on Amazon during November, 2008.I plan to order another set of 8 GB for a project build later this year and highly recommend them to any with a 5400 chipset, just have a couple of back-ups on hand!

I bought this budget PC(the T5234) to replace my aging Gateway with AGP graphics. Other than the 3rd party software stuff on the disk I didn't want, this PC does all I want. I changed the memory to 2GB to give Vista Home Premium more to work with and put in an add-on nVidia graphics card as I do 3D modelling. If you don't game much and just do basic computer tasks the onboard nVidia 6150 is fine. I priced a similar Dell budget PC but it only had Vista Home Basic, which I wouldn't bother with. I didn't give it five stars as the PC doesn't have built-in Firewire, something you'll have get a low cost add-on card for to do get moview from a DV camcorder.

Apple Mac mini M9687LL/B (1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Drive) Review

Apple Mac mini M9687LL/B
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Mac Mini was released in January 2005 at Mac World, and was then updated, for the first time, in July 2005.This Mac Mini is the result of that update.

Improvements - The $599 Mac Mini now sports 512 MB of DDR SDRAM, which is twice the memory the original Mac Mini included. This is a significant upgrade. The majority of users can now buy, out of the box, a machine that performs beautifully and allows a fair amount of multi-tasking.The Mac operating system, Mac OS X Tiger, thrives on memory, and 512 MB helps to create a speedy experience, for users.

Bluetooth - Bluetooth is a great wireless technology that Apple heavily backs, and it is included with this Mac Mini, an addition, from the original Mac Minis, when bluetooth was an optional add-on, at Apple.com, for $50 more.Purchase a bluetooth keyboard or bluetooth mouse, and they will work wirelessly, with your Mac Mini.It makes for a very clean and uncluttered desktop. There are also many mobile phones and PDAs, which utilize bluetooth technology, which you can sync to your mac using isync, included with Mac Mini.

Airport Extreme - This is the wireless networking card now included with the $599 Mac Mini, after being a $70+ upgrade at Apple.com, on the previous model.Do you have a wireless-b or wireless-g network in your home?If so, the Mac Mini will be able to connect to it, without problem.Again, making the computing experience simpler and less tangled.

The Good Things that Continue to Shine with Mac Mini - A buyer of the Mac Mini will continue to enjoy Mac OS X Tiger, which is the best consumer operating system in the world. It works with the hardware beautifully to provide a simple, fast, elegant, and reliable experience. One of the favorite descriptions of Mac fans, to describe Macs, is simply, "it just works."

The Mac Mini continues to include iLife '05, with great applications such as iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, iTunes, and Garageband. These are all included, with every Mac Mini. You will be challenged to find any PC that includes applications that come anywhere close to the iLife suite.Manage thousands of your digital images in iPhoto, create home movies in iMovie, and create professional music in Garageband.

Appleworks is included for simply word processing, spreadsheets, etc., but you might want to pick up Microsoft Office for Mac.A student/teacher edition is available, for just over $100.

Speed - The 1.42 GHZ PowerPC G4 processor makes the Mac Mini a very capable machine. This will satisfy the horsepower needed to complete tasks in the iLife suite, included with your Mac Mini.

Hard Drive - 80 GB is a significant-sized hard drive, so you will be able to store thousands of photos and songs.

ComboDrive - The Apple Combo Drive allows you to burn music and data CDs, plus you can watch DVDs!

Drawbacks? The $599 version of the Mac Mini no longer includes a modem, if you want this version of the Mac Mini with a modem, you will have to custom-order it at Apple.com.However, the ethernet port is included on the back, to plug into a DSL or cable modem, plus you have the Airport Extreme, for wireless connections. However, if you don't have broadband, you'll need a modem for dial-up, so you will either need to order a custom-built Mac Mini at Apple.com, or buy the stock $499 model, which includes a modem, but lacks the wireless components.

Overall, Apple has created another fantastic product, with the Mac Mini, and the July 2005 update only made it better. You get more memory, plus wireless connectivity via bluetooth and airport extreme. This Mac Mini really includes everything the average user needs to enjoy the internet, manage his or her digital life, and have fun doing it all.

Apple Mac Mini - Incredibly inexpensive, but definitely not cheap, this miniature Apple Macintosh Computer is perfectfor handling your day to day computing, and then some! The main feature is it's petite exterior. The Mac Mini is only 6.5" square, 2" high, andweighs only 2.9 pounds. Its attractive platinum and white, rounded square design gives it a sophisticated modern look that can't be matched. Italso has the convenience of having all of its buttons and ports placed in the back, so cables are kept tidy and neat, giving you a clean overallappearance. But what's even more amazing than its good looks, is the shear amount of technology Apple has packed inside! Acer AX3300-U1322 Desktop PC (Black) Review

Acer AX3300-U1322 Desktop PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is written for MODDERS.General users may find this information useful, but I am writing for the intermediate to advanced power user who intends to open up the case.

First Impressions: I was looking for a Quad-Core Athlon processor that would be inexpensive to modify for server/*nix use (with occasional WIN7 use). The number one attraction was the price. And it still is!I am very happy with what I have done, and the flexibility gained.I had some previous experience with a fantastic gaming machine using a PHENOM processor with 4 cores, and I was looking to carry over much of that experience into a working machine, without doing the level of effort I put into building the gaming machine. My apologies to those of you who are INTEL platform fans: there are many games which run better on INTEL platforms with WIN7, and you should definitely go that way if you play those games.

About the Processor Core: if you need a gaming machine, this is not for you. There are several differences between the Phenom sold in expensive gaming systems, and the Athlon II X4 620 quad-processor core used here: including the complete lack of an L3 cache.Like the INTEL Core 2 Quad Q8200, there is no L3 cache at all.See magazine articles or reference materials on the differences. That being said, the architecture is great for a plain-jane workhorse or a media center to play DVD video.I have had not tried heavy HD video use, nor done the modifications for Blue-Ray movies on this machine. If you have data on doing a Blu Ray player upgrade for this machine, please leave a comment on this review.

About the Case:This machine is easy to open up.The two rear screws hold on the access panel quickly remove with a phillips, and have standard case threads - easily replaced with your favorite knurled-knob screws. The front fascia pops off the top edge with three exposed clips (plastic), and is retained on the other edge by three curved hooks (also plastic), and is wired to the motherboard by an easily disconnected micro-plug (for power switch and fascia/ bezel LED light). The DVD drive and HDD attach to a minimal sheet metal cage/ box, which is cleverly attached with two phillips screws on the front case sheet metal. To remove the drives, undo the SATA wires (L-type) and power plugs (flat type, not molex), undo the front screws, and then slowly lift up.The cage will act as if hinged at front, but it is just clever bending of the sheet metal cage. There is a sheet-metal box around the very-small, custom power supply (looks like 240 watts). The airflow, like most of the latest small form-factor PCs, is minimal; fans are limited to the CPU fan/heat-sink combo and a teeny-tiny power supply fan that I can't really see well.

About the MOBO layout. This is a compact set up with lots of money saving choices. It presents some limitations for MODDERS.There are 4 memory slots (came with 4GB on 2 SAMSUNG DDR3 cards) positioned immediately behind the bottom of the HDD, and in front of the fan/heat-sink combo on the CPU. The close proximity of the CPU fan/heat-sink to the rear-projecting cables of the full-sized DVD-drive box means limited options. The wire routing includes only the necessary; flat, red, sata cables tucked against the corners of the case... very clean and good for airflow. I did not like the look of the SAMSUNG memory: just bare chips on fibre-glass without a heat-spreader.The SAMSUNG performed perfectly on my burn-in testing, but I popped in 8 GB of Kingston Hyper-X as a long term preventative measure. The 8GB was recognized perfectly by the system, and tested very well too.No blue-tooth or WIFI on board, so use the USB plugs for a cheapo add-on.

About the I/O layout: there are normal front and rear input output sockets, in a pretty clean layout. The front panel sports a hinged plastic door to cover up the break-out sockets.Under the door you will see: audio 3.5mm in/out, 4-wire ieee1394 plug (aka mini-firewire400), 5 USB sockets, a CF card slot, and a flash combo-slot (SD, XD, MS multi-slot). In the back there are: 2 PS/2 sockets (?), HDMI and VGA out, e-SATA, ehternet, 4 more USB sockets, and the usual color-coded 3.5mm audio sound plugs. There are a variety of internal SATA sockets available on the motherboard (HDD, DVD, plus three more) but you won't get much use from them until you pull the DVD-HDD box/cage out of the case... everything is just crammed in with no room.Cables are mostly blocked by the DVD drive or the fan/heat-sink.

About the WIN7 compatibility with Athlon x64:Run your windows update and look carefully at the Optional installs (after you have installed the Important updates). There are several updates specific to the WIN7 behaviors with Athlon processors, and the combination of Athlon and NVIDIA products with +4GB RAM (see the official site for Microsoft (Start with a look at KB976972).To the credit of AMD, ACER and Microsoft, the patches are available and install easily (all updates installed successfully without any repeated tries or manual intervention). There are additional patches that may apply to your specific use as a corporate box or a media-center PC, so make the effort to do a good install-update to the system.

About the power loading:I was very concerned about the "el-cheapo" power supply that usually gets stuffed into a tiny budget box (in my opinion, all manufacturers view small-form-factor PCs as budget boxes). To open up the airflow, and offload some power demands, I moved the HDD and DVD off the MOBO.The old SATA internal (L-plug with flat red wiring) connection to the HDD is now modded to a internal (L-plug) to external eSATA (flat) on a round blue cable. The HDD now lives in an external eSATA drive toaster (use the brand of your choice, or an external RAID with eSATA plug). The DVD is now a USB connected external. This was easy for me since I already had all the parts, and the math says that this will reduce the load on the power supply in the ACER case.Theoretically, this may extend the life of the Acer power supply.Since all this stuff sits on a rack, out of sight, the looks are no big deal. Not recommended for the executive director's fancy desk top though.

About the performance:Five-stars!This is far better than the laptop which used to do this duty.I will run some benchmarks later to compare. The processor and OS combo have not hit any heat problems for any situation I have put them in during burn-in or anything so far.For the low cost, this fanken-customized rig now does multiple duties as a work machine in a home network.I keep the WIN7 disc for grins, but I am not a true believer in WIN7 for servers.Plus, this machine has no gaming use (except minesweeper and pin-ball).The *nix install was trivial... but that is beyond the scope of this review.

USB Trackball Numeric Keypad/Desktop Calculator, 12-Digit Display CAN0009B001 Review

USB Trackball Numeric Keypad/Desktop Calculator, 12-Digit Display CAN0009B001
Average Reviews:

This calculator works standalone including via solar cell or battery, or with a computer via USB.When attached via USB to a PC/Mac, it has a two mode switch for keying in numbers, or for calculating on the side (standalone calculator mode). If in calculator mode, you can still use the "SEND" button to key in your current result to the attached computer for you, but the rest of the time it keeps the results to itself (no keying).

When I received this calculator, the box indicated Windows only (OSX was not mentioned under requirements).I was prepared to be disappointed.I took a chance, and this product just works (no drivers)!
It could've been a disaster with such a hybrid device, but the trackball, keypad, backspace, tab, cursor, and everything just seem to work.Plus (at first I thought USB cable was not included), it includes a nifty self-storing USB cable that retracts into the base. The battery is built-in and rechargeable (factory (and user?) replaceable), and it has a solar cell for working off light.

There are a few shortcomings.I don't know if there's a calculator standard keypad size, but the keys seem a little close together compared to a normal keyboard, but still OK.The touch is softly tactile.

The manual doesn't have much to cover but still leaves a bunch to be desired. There are some a few sophisticated features which the manual does not explain fully (at least to my satisfaction) but which seem standard enough:the rounding switch (up, 5/4, down), decimal point setting (+,4,3,2,1,0,F[loating point]), and tax aids.I think the floating point could've used more explanation of when the + mode would be useful. It's confusing that they're not explained in some significant detail since they're somewhat unique features. That's picky, but for such a nifty product, solid documentation would be extra polish.

Overall, I'm quite impressed and pleased with this unorthodox (yet surprisingly familiar) and versatile calculator.

Very nice computer. Came with Windows 7. This is a great improvement. Easy to transfer all info from old computer.
TV card is very nice although instructions on setting it up were a little lacking.Video resolution had to be cut down for the TV to play without lag on my flat screen monitor. Over all this is a good computer with plenty of power for the average user.
Some reviews commented on overheating but I have not had that issue after 1 month of use.
