8GB 800MHZ DDR2 Ecc Fb Dimm Review

8GB 800MHZ DDR2 Ecc Fb Dimm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'll begin by saying that I have 24GB of Kingston Value Ram memory installed on my workstation as it routinely uses 35-50% or more of that for compute intensive tasks and serious multi-tasking.I initially purchased the Value Ram because it was the cheapest quality ram available. My workstation is also used for gaming and I have not noticed any memory bottlenecks due to the ECC FB-DIMMs.While memory is only part of the equation, performance in games is stable almost to a fault in COD4, Medieval Total War, COD5, and Eve Online.Frame rates and load times are very consistent - my only complaint would be that the FSB is tied to the multiplier and does not like frequency modifications as I overclock, but then again server components aren't really meant for overclocking, are they?

As I've used and been very satisfied with Kingston products in the past, I knew these Dimms were backed by a solid warranty. This was an issue because I've had a couple of defective Kingston FB-DIMM 800 memory modules. Both of them had sloppily applied thermal interface material that was under or on the gold pins. These modules were also from different lots.I had not overclocked this lot when the DIMMS failed, as I was breaking the system in.I am uncertain what caused the failure, but it was almost certainly a quality control issue.Normally I would knock them down a few stars, but as Kingston backs these products with a lifetime warranty, other than being slightly inconvenienced, I will not complain.

The Dimms were simply a steal when I ordered them direct from the Kingston website, and were honestly, cheaper than they were on Amazon during November, 2008.I plan to order another set of 8 GB for a project build later this year and highly recommend them to any with a 5400 chipset, just have a couple of back-ups on hand!

XTracPads Ripper XXL Desktop Gaming Mat Review

XTracPads Ripper XXL Desktop Gaming Mat
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i am an avid gamer, gaming anywhere from 5-12 hours a day. my mouse pad is VERY important. i used to use the steelpad 4-d. it was nice but lost all its abrasive side making it too smooth for my mx518. I bought some new mouse feet and this. it works amazing. i put my keyboard on it so it doesnt slide around anymore. the pad allows for very precise aiming. though i STILL run out of room sometimes but that may be my fault because i am a low sensitivity shooter. the biggest problem with this mat is that it LOVES lint/hair/dust. i am always blowing cat hair (and my hair) out of the optical area of the mouse. the best thing i found to clean this is to get a lint roller and lightly go over the pad. but do not go over the edges! like a rug, going over the edges starts to loosen the stitching and would eventually make the mat start falling apart. the mat is very useful otherwise.

glide: depends on sensitivity of gamer. for low - 9/10
size: HUGE. biggest out there. 7/10
crafting: durable. washes well if something spills (like toothpaste) 8/10
value: biggest selling point of the pad. 25 bucks is CHEAP - 10/10
mobility: for lans may be too big - 5/10

As others on the web have stated, this case has many high end features like a 4 Drive SATA Back plane, up to 6 120mm Fans and wiring chases to hide all cables. The case uses thin metal and is a bit flimsy, but who moves a desktop computer around once in place. What many people don't understand is this is one of the few cases that has full venting on top of the case.Heat is a computer's worst enemy.Guess what, heat rises. Why venting on top is not a standard, I don't know.Perhaps to prevent drink spillage or something.I am running a core 2 quad w/4G Memory, 750 Watt Power Supply, 2 RAID1 Arrays, Blue-Ray DVD, 2-PCIe 16x Graphics adapters w/4 DVI 22" monitors, X-Fi Titanium Sound and an Intel 1G Nic. and standing temp is at 90F, yes Fahrenheit. When running 4 RDP virtual desktops and respective applications temps peak not higher than 115F.These low temperatures will make your computer very very happy for a long long time.

HP Gaming Mouse with VooDooDNA Review

HP Gaming Mouse with VooDooDNA
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Best mouse I've ever used, and I've used many!
All of the buttons click easily and crisply, (None of that dull thud clicking you get in a lot of cheap mice) including the mouse wheel!
I can't stand a mouse that makes it difficult to click the mouse wheel. This is caused by two things: The mouse wheel requires too much force to click, AND/OR the wheel spins too easily and instead of clicking you also scroll which can be disastrous in fast action FPS games. If you play FPS games you know what I mean.

This mouse design balances the wheel resistance and required pressure to click perfectly. No trouble clicking the mouse wheel on this thing.

Another plus is the placement of the thumb buttons. They sit directly above and below your thumb. No awkward stretching or hooking of the thumb required to reach either of the buttons.

Also, VERY easy to pick up and move due to the shape and rubber grip.
So many mice are sloped inward toward the top and outward toward the bottom.I don't know who thought that was a good idea, but it's terrible. This mouse does the opposite.Slopes outward toward the top and inward at the bottom, but slightly.Which is just enough to keep the mouse from feeling like it's going to slip out of your hand when you pick it up to reposition.

The adjustable dpi is done nicely as well. The button is flush to the surface of the mouse so there's no accidental dpi switching when you don't want it.
There are blue LED lights to indicate the dpi setting you're currently using as well as an always-on blue LED light which looks very good in low light settings.

Another thing about the ability to pick this mouse up so easily:Some mice, even those with shapes conducive to picking up easily, are heavy in the half closest to your wrist. This gives mice an awkward feel when lifting them. This mouse is well balanced and can be lifted easily whether you use the "claw" method or "palm" method of holding your mouse.

Lastly, it has a cord!No batteries or lag to be concerned with.

Ok, maybe one more thing... it looks AMAZING!

NZXT Nemesis Elite CS-NT-NEM-EL-B Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (Black) Review

NZXT Nemesis Elite CS-NT-NEM-EL-B Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

The Nemesis case is a great case, I have four of them (My two and one each for my kids) Although I do not use the top display feature (I have my towers under desk) it is a handy feature to keep an eye on your system.

There is plenty of room for all my stuff and the 'screw-less' design is very simple to use and holds well.

The only CON I have - I drilled out the 'holders' for the side window fan as it is difficult to get clean and replaced with fan screws for easier removal and cleaning.

Acer Aspire AS7551G-5056 17.3-Inch Laptop (Black) Review

Acer Aspire AS7551G-5056 17.3 inch Laptop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well so far it is a really nice machine.
Pros: Nice Graphics, Very very nice display, keyboard is solid.
Cons: Onboard graphics drivers are terrible, the speakers could be better, the mouse pad could be better.

Based on what I have seen so far I would say its worth getting. At first I was really annoyed because I was having display issues with Call of Duty 4 and Civilization IV would crash frequently. Eventually I installed ATI's drivers and it solved those problems. The screen is gorgeous though, its nicer then my monitor on my desktop and that thing is really sweet. The keyboard responds well and I especially like the number pad. It runs rather hot but most laptops do. I have just been setting it up so it is off the surface about half an inch and it runs much cooler now (cooling pad would also work). Oh right and the HDMI port is handy too. The battery lasts about half an hour to 45 minutes while playing Call of Duty on high settings, which is better then I would have expected from a 6-cell laptop battery.

On the other hand it runs into the same problems that all Acer's have rather bad speakers. I mean don't get me wrong laptop speakers are not the best around but these things are very loud and on the loudest setting they distort the sound a little. But I was expecting that from an Acer. Also the customer support for it is TERRIBLE!!! Again that is a problem with Acer though. Luckily I really haven't had any really issue to call Acer about. The mouse pad on it feels a little cheap. I mean I haven't had any problems with it but the pad on an HP or Dell are much better.

Overall its a very nice laptop once you install ATI's drivers. And since it is about $100 cheaper (when I got it) then a different company's essential identical twin it does make it worth it. Just be warned it is an Acer.

Oh right I think it says it comes with Windows 7 Pro. It lies it is Windows 7 Home. Still 64 bit though so not a big deal I guess. I'll try to check back later on after I have played with it more.

I am putting together a machine with the MSI Big Bang XPower MoBo with an i7 930 CPU, and will have a GTX 470 GPU, with 7 HDD's in various raid configs and a Corsair HX850 PSU.This case is so well thought out. So far no negatives except it is very big, which is actually good, as long as you understand this before you buy.

Cable mgmt is excellent, USB 3.0 on the front as well as Esata and 1394 and USB 2.0, covered on/off switch (reset too).

Wheels are included. Air filters on all openings - except for some reason not on the bottom in front of the PSU. All tool-less drive bays, 2 hot swap drive bays in front (amazingly these are not tool-less..wtf were they thinking?).

It includes 3, 200 mm fans (top - out, front - in, side - in, and one 120 mm on the rear out.It also has a place for a second (optional) 200 mm fan on the top.

So far it has been a pleasure to work with.I will update this as the build progresses.

update - the only thing marginal are the hot swap drawers. they require screws to hold the drives in (the included thumbscrews work at least) so it not terrible, but it would have been cool to have a method to yank drives in and out with no real effort at all.still 5 stars

HP Pavilion 864n Media Center Desktop PC
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pc has just about everything you can ask for, plus. And coming as a package, everything works out of the box. No worrying about trying to find drivers or trying to kludge something up. Very fast DVD/CD writer and even faster CD ROM. I'm used to an older, slower box and this thing is so fast at recording CDs that it actually started to irritate me. I would just start to do something else and it would be finished. After a month I'm still discovering some of the software that came with it. This XP Multi Media os is great, it is a superset of XP Pro. Like XP it is super stable. Just for laughs I hooked the TV cable up and the multi media was a snap to get working. I now have a mini tv working on my screen. Only small problem for me is that I have a Tivo (the world's second greatest invention after TV) and I can't completely hook up the tv guide function because I don't want this pc fighting with Tivo over control of the cable box. I'm very satisfied and I think it is an excellent buy for the money.

Product Description:
The HP Pavilion 864n Media Center Desktop PC is no ordinary personal computer. Certainly it's faster and more powerful than most ready-to-ship PCs, but it's also one of the most multimedia friendly desktops on the market. If you spend a good deal of your computing time playing rather than working, you've come to the right place.
The Pavilion 864n is an audiophile's dream. HP has supplanted the typically generic sound cards found in most competing rigs with a high-end Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 24-bit sound card with Dolby 5.1 and analog surround sound. Given that this card is capable of full five-point Dolby surround sound, HP's decision to supply only a stereo speaker system may seem a bit odd, yet the system it did include is one of the finest available today - a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX certified 200 watt 3-piece setup (two satellites, one very potent subwoofer) that delivers superb tone and most definitely rattles the floorboards.
Driving the Pavilion 864n is a speedy 2.66 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, 512 MB DDR SDRAM (expandable to 1 full gigabyte) and a potent 128 MB Nvidia GeForce4 MX440 graphics card with TV-out. In simple terms, this powerplant will efficiently handle virtually anything you can throw its way. Ditto with the hard disk, a monstrous 160 GB 4500 RPM Ultra DMA model that sports enough room for all your applications and a multitude of music and video files too. Alternately, you can use the integrated DVD+RW/CD-RW combo drive and fast 48-speed CD-ROM drive to listen to and burn audio CDs, create home movie DVDs, backup your data and enjoy the latest Hollywood movies.
The Pavilion 864n features a variety of high-end amenities designed to help you get the most from your computing and multimedia experience, including five ultra-fast USB 2.0 ports for plug and play peripherals, two IEEE 1394 ports for external devices such as digital camcorders and scanners, a 6-in-1 media card reader, and a Media Center Keyboard with full multimedia control. A monitor is not included, thus allowing users to select one separately.

HP 2310m 23' Full HD Widescreen LCD Monitor

This monitor is absolutely gorgeous. The colors are vibrant, the black levels are impressive, and it has many features. It has a sleep timer, you can change the input it will automatically switch to at turn on by changing the default input, you can view how many hours the backlight has been on...it's great. HDMI, DVI, VGA, it can do it all. It even comes with a VGA cable. I haven't really experienced any glare, but then again I don't sit in front of sunlight and the paparazzi aren't particularly interested in me.

Just one caveat: the monitor comes folded, as the hinge between the base and the screen allows it to collapse and fit inside the packaging box. When I was unfolding it from the box, the hinge was quite stiff. I was actually a bit concerned that I would break the monitor right in half. Instead of holding the base and pulling the screen to unfold it, try holding the screen and pulling the base. It's less scarier and it works out easier.

Overall, I really enjoy this monitor and I would highly recommend it!

Cooler Master HAF 932 High Air Flow ATX Full Tower Case Black - (RC-932-KKN1-GP) Review

Cooler Master HAF 932 High Air Flow ATX Full Tower Case Black -
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is best case that I've ever had. I wish it had a pull out motherboard tray but given the size of the case, it wasn't a necessity. The instruction manual has detailed diagrams (would of been nice if there was more wording but the diagrams give you enough insight on what to do).

This is a full tower case. It can handle Micro ATX to extended ATX. It's made of steel which makes this case heavy. There are no handles to grip the case but it's sturdy enough that you can lift it from any part. It's not the prettiest of cases, but it certainly gets the job done.

The case comes with 4 fans already mounted. There is no fan controller but the fans have the sockets that you can add a controller, connect it directly to the power supply unit, or connect it directly to the motherboard (if the motherboard's instructions allow it). I strongly recommend connecting the fans directly to the power supply unit. Above the large fan on your left sight (looking at the picture with the red fan facing you), there is a small clear window. It would of been nice if the window went all the way down. On the top of the case, there are connections for the USB, e-sata, power switch, reset, microphone, and speaker. You also have the option of adding wheels to the bottom of the case. I installed them and, they have a lock on them to prevent your case from moving (if the case is too heavy for the desk lol).

The box that the case came in, was huge! It's the size of a suitcase. The case, seems like the size of a small suitcase. You get the speaker wire, the manual, a lot of screws, the IO panel, plastic ties, and a map that shows where to put the motherboard and all the wires go out of. For instance, if you have a ATX motherboard, the map says to place the motherboard screws in A,B,C,D,F.G,H (just an example). If you put the map on the motherboard tray, you will see what screw is what letter. The wire management system in this case is amazing.

I have the EVGA SLI socket 1366 (i7) motherboard and I must say that there was so much room left in the case. Putting the motherboard in, was a snap. Laying out the wires to connect to the motherboard was easy and if you ever need to change the layout, there is enough room to work in within the case. I changed my wiring a few times until I thought it was good enough. When you turn on your system, it's not as loud as you would expect. In fact, it's quieter than my midtower that has my Core2Duo which I gave to my wife. Even when I'm playing FSX (all options set to Ultra High), it's still very quiet.

I must say, the case keeps my system freezing. I left my cup of tea near my case and within minutes, I had iced tea. The readings on my motherboard and on the BIOS screen show the CPU temperature at 19-21 degrees Celsius. While playing a game for several hours, the temperature stays to 20-21 degrees. Amazing. Feeling the side of the case and it feels like a refrigerator. Great case for an great price. Yes, it could be prettier, but it does it's job!

Concerning how loud this case is (if it is).I would definitely consider it not a loud case at all. With 4 huge fans; it's not an issue where you would have to turn up your speaker volume. The side vents towards the front, do a nice job "emptying" the heat coming from my hard drives, and my video card does a nice job isolating the heat generated from it and pushing it out the back. I would of chosen either this case or the Thermaltake Armor Plus case. After researching for a few weeks, everyone always pointed to this one. Yes, the Armor plus is prettier (the password for today lol) but you cannot go wrong with the CM HAF932. A great investment.

Wish List for this Tower:
- I wish it was aluminum
- Clear window on the whole side panel (it's like a bathroom window presently- If you can see from the picture, the see-through window stops at where the fan begins)
- Pull out moutherboard tray

If you have any qualms or questions, feel free to ask me in the comment section.

I don't have too much complaining to do on this item. It runs great. It looks great. And it's the gaming PC of my dreams... kind of. I mean, I plan to do upgrades in the future, but for what I paid I'm extremely pleased with the the machine.

ONLY THING that pissed me off when I got it was that the HDD wasn't connected. I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm not a SUPER techy either. So when I plugged everything in and powered this bad boy up, I was totally annoyed that it wouldn't boot properly. And for the life of me I couldn't figure out why. After going to a few PC forums, it was suggested that I make sure everything was seated in place inside the tower.

Against my better judgement, I did and I realized a cable wasn't connected to the HDD. After this was connected, the PC booted straight to windows. And I've been enjoyed it ever since.

Overall, the PC itself is GREAT. I'd recommend it to anyone. But beware, I hear iBUYPOWER is notorious for this kind of "neglect" when it comes to their PCs. It's a great product, but w/o prior know-how, you may need assistance with it straight out of the box which is sad. Otherwise pleased though!

Antec Twelve Hundred ATX 12 Drive Bays 2xUSB 2.0 eSATA Audio Full Tower Case Review

Antec Twelve Hundred ATX 12 Drive Bays 2xUSB 2.0 eSATA Audio Full Tower Case

The outside of the box gives you a tease of what lies inside:the cool midnight blue lights; the viewing panel on the side of the case; and the mammoth fan that sits on the top of the case.

Opening the box reveals the sheer size of this case.1200 could stand for 1200lbs, 1200fans, or 1200 drive bays. The case weighs over thirty pounds. It stands almost two foot tall. The front of the case is populated with twelve...TWELVE drive bays.Fans are distributed liberally throughout the case.

Removing both side panels reveals the vast interior. You could easily stack 2-3 laptops inside the case.Looking for an SLI case? The Twelve Hundred has the space. It swallowed my nForce Ultra 790i Ultra motherboard and EVGA GTX 280 and still has space for two more GTX 280s.

The power supply sits at the bottom of this case.Don't even think about installing anything less than a 750W power supply.Preferably something with a LOT of connectors. You will need several 4pin connectors for all the fans.Fortunately, they can be daisy-chained.

Another key feature of this case is the ability to run cables UNDER the motherboard. The motherboard attaches to a metal plate in the case.Under that plate is a space to run almost all of the wires used in a PC.SATA, fans, front panel wires, and just about anything else. The plate has openings at strategic points where cables typically connect. The end-result is a very clean looking and professional installation -- which you can show off using the viewing panel on the left side of the case.

The twelve drive bays are grouped into 3 sets of 4.Each group has its own fan.Installation of 5.25in and 3.5in drives was easy and intuitive. There was a brief moment of confusion on my part when trying to attach drives to the bay.The usual "short" screws are not used with this case.Instead, there are 1" screws used to mount drives into bays.

About the only drawback is the rudimentary front-panel.It works -- but looks very plain. After the exotic design inside the case, the lighting, the fans, etc, the front panel is a bit of a let down.

Still, I am absolutely thrilled with this case.Highly recommend for gamers, high-end graphics workstations, or users with massive storage requirements.

iBUYPOWER Gamer Extreme A959i FPS Gaming Desktop (Black) Review

First of all, Amazon rocks. With Prime I exercised the 1 day delivery option for an extra four bucks. Ordered it at 12:30 p.m. and it was delivered at 9:45 a.m. the next day. Amazing.

The machine is smoking fast and I am running Starcraft II on Ultra and it is smooth as silk. Plenty of RAM and vid card is both a great chip and a good value (although it is an off-brand which is odd as the motherboard/PSU/HD are all at least solid brands if not top notch, such as an ASUS MB). There is some good room to expand although some of the cabling is a little tight across the expansion slots.

The oddities/minor annoyances:

1) Only 1 case fan blowing out the back. For a system this powerful that is too few. There are places to install your own fans in the case (which I did) although several of them aren't available because of installed components (the top ones are blocked by the ends of the CD drive and the placement of the CPU cooling unit). I put in a 120mm case fan blowing out the side and it has brought my temps down to very acceptable levels even under decent load.

2) The HD was not installed in the drive rack. It was actually rattling around in there connected only to its cable, but not attached into the racks. The fact that I could hear it clunking around before I opened the box was distressing but it seemed to work okay. For those not used to getting inside the case and putting in a drive I would think it would be even more disconcerting even though it is pretty easy to clip it in there.

3) The power supply vents directly down. Why they set it up this way I don't know. The case does have feet to provide space for the air to flow but if you sit your case on carpet that sort of goes away and you have to prop it up a bit. I still haven't found a permanent solution to this.

Overall: A solid machine with some weirdness that keeps it from being absolutely perfect. However, for the price it is a lot of computer.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470f Desktop PC - Black Review

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470f Desktop PC - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this item a few weeks ago. Fabulous machine. The Phenom II six-core chip really makes it scream. The trade-off against the Intel chip on the comparable model 470 machine is that you have a lower cache size vs. the Phenom's higher number of cores (six with AMD to four for Intel), but if you use a lot of multi-threaded applications, it's a worthwhile trade. Photoshop renders are as fast as I've ever seen them, and games can go with as high of a frame rate as you like. Multi-screen support is built in and simple to set up.

Upgrading is easy. My machine now has a blu-ray writer, 3 TB of drive and 16 GB of memory. Took all of half an hour to install everything on my own and not a compatibility issue in sight.

Some nice small things like the CF card not having to be slotted so deep that you need a pair of pliers to pull it out, or the top mounted USB ports. Little touches that make things nice.

My single issue is using the display port, which I have yet to be able to do, but that's a minor quibble and probably just a driver update issue.

Overall a great machine for a good price. Highly recommended.
