(More customer reviews)This monitor is an absolutely incredible value for the price.Cheap, great picture, top notch color, all the quality and speed you'd expect from a Samsung LCD monitor, and a really attractive design that looks great on your desk.

My only hesitation is that I think the ideal wide screen monitor is a couple inches larger than this (I use a 22" widescreen at work), but I just couldn't resist the price of this beauty when replacing my NEC MultiSync 17" CRT monitor at home (which was a very good monitor as well in it's day with great color).

You'll definitely want to drop the brightness level on this Samsung though as the default factory setting is pretty hard on the eyes.

I'm using the DVI connection and recommend you do the same if at all possible - DVI really helps sharpen up LCD's.

If your wallet is feeling a little thick lately, I'd get Samsung's 22", but otherwise you'll still be thrilled with this monitor.

Samsung SyncMaster 245T 24" LCD Monitor Review

Gateway FHD2400 24" widescreen
Samsung 2496HM 24" widescreen
Samsung 245BW 24" widescreen

and this one.

The 245T has a pixel viewing angle of 178 degrees compared to the others which are 160 degrees. That means that I can see all the screen including the edges of the screen clearly. 24 inches is big. With a lesser viewing angle, the only clear viewability is directly forward at eye level. With 160 degrees, I look to the lower left edge of the screen and images are blurry and less color. 178 degrees allows it to be as clear and crisp no matter where my eye/head position is. With the 160 degrees, when I walked over to the monitor (standing) I could not see the elements of the taskbar (e.g. look for a "new mail" icon). I had to bend down and look at eye level to make out what was on the screen. With 178 degrees, I can see it while standing up. Huge difference.

The colors on this are the best too. The picture is clean, whiter, hotter, more adjustable. All the others had overly-red saturation no matter what settings I tried.

The 245T has actual buttons rather than the dumbly-designed touch/heat sensitive panel on some others.

I ordered this on Amazon, and it arrived next day and works beautifully.
It's more expensive than the other monitors, but I use a monitor all day. Chintzing on a monitor would be a bad idea, like trying to save money by buying a cheaper mattress, or a cheap desk chair. Not a good idea to buy bad quality for something that is an integral part of my life.

If my needs were less vigorous, like paying bills online or other tasks that only involved brief episodes with a computer, I might be satisfied with one of the other cheap models. But in my opinion, there is absolutely no comparison between the 245T and anything else I saw in my extensive searching for a 24" widescreen monitor. The 245T is worth it.

SAMSUNG P2370 23-Inch LCD Monitor Review

I have to admit, I was a bit concerned about purchasing this online, virtually sight unseen.I went to Best Buy and saw the 20" version of this display and wasn't overly pleased, but then realized that the demo Best Buy had running on the monitor was not in the model's native resolution.So I came home and after a couple of days of deliberation with myself I took the plunge and bought this from Amazon.The display is a cinch to assemble.I've read some reviews where people have had great difficulty putting the stand together then attaching the stand to the monitor itself.This simply is not the case.Everything is keyed (all you have to do is pay attention to the carved out notches) and slid together very easily, no difficulty at all."Professional" reviews have indicated that the monitor is very wobbly.This is the case to an extent, but it takes a fair jolt to get this monitor to tip.In all practicality who is going to be hitting the monitor with their hand anyway trying to get it to tip over.Perhaps a good earthquake, a running child or clumsy oaf is needed.

Buyers will definitely want to take some time to calibrate the monitor.I am currently running Windows 7 RC1 so some calibration tools are included that don't come in previous versions of Windows (including Vista, that I have found anyway).A Google search for "monitor calibration" will help aid in this process."Professional" reviews have indicated that gray colors are not represented correctly, taking on a "yellowish hue."Out of the box using default settings this seemed to be the case (you'll see what I mean if you open a picture using Windows Photo Viewer, maximize the window and notice the color of the border surrounding the image), and using the monitor color profile that ships with the LCD (which Adobe Photoshop CS3 reports as being corrupted), but after customizing the monitor settings and getting a new color profile generated by Windows 7, this color turned from the "yellowish" hue to a light blue color as was displayed by my previous LCD (this of course is based on my current color scheme found in Windows 7).

Games play flawlessly, with good color, picture quality and vibrancy.No bleeding or blur with this 2ms response time display. The monitor includes presets for gaming, but if you calibrate the monitor properly this seems to be unneeded.Your mileage may vary depending on personal preference, but using in-game settings with brightness, contrast etc. can help get the job done.Games I tested in 1920x1080 were Crysis, the Half-Life 2 series, Far Cry 2, Unreal Tournament III, Stalker: Clear Sky, Street Fighter IV Benchmark (now available for download) and Bejeweled Twist.All played perfectly, again no blur or bleeding.I tested out a HD copy of "The Dark Knight" with no issues, perfect clarity in all respects.Some complaints (again from "professional" reviews) state that there is some white light bleed-through at the top edge of the screen on dark pictures.I found this to be very minor and not distracting at all.My desktop wallpaper images are native to 1920x1080 which is crisp and clear, so you'll probably want to find some HD or widescreen wallpapers for your viewing pleasure.

Settings for the monitor I have found to be optimal (at least for myself) are as follows:

It may also be advantageous to use the ClearType technology built into Windows (MacOS probably has something similar), again personal preference so your mileage may vary.Windows 7 is a bit more extensive in customizing ClearType than prevoius versions of Windows.

I am very pleased with this monitor and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality display at a reasonable price.

Konica Minolta magicolor 1690MF - Multifunction Review

(More customer reviews)On the positive side, it prints very quickly in black, a little slower in color (it's a four-pass CMYK printer, meaning it prints Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black in individual runs or passes) but the quality of the color images are fantastic and are only limited by the quality of paper used. It scans acceptably well, not spectacular, but more than well enough for my needs. Haven't tried the fax portion and don't foresee doing so.

There are only two negatives that I've found: the machine is noisy even when not in use; it has a loud cooling fan that will run for a long time (more than 20 minutes); and it's shipped with what seems like only a few drops of black toner. If you buy this printer and plan to do any amount of printing right away, you need to get more black toner, pronto. The toner cartridge that came with it lasted less than a week with moderate usage.

So far I like it and would recommend it. The printer part of it gets five stars, the scanner four stars. The other qualities--noise, set up, features--bring the overall rating to four stars.

Samsung Touch Of Color T220 22-inch LCD Monitor Review

(More customer reviews)It isn't the design of this LCD that earns merit, although it is a rather timeless looking item and will look smart in any situation. It's the feature set, and there is certainly far more function over form than meets the casual eye!

Pros:

- Can be set to auto detect the exact input source resolution and display the image without any stretching. This is great if you play games that might need 1280 x 1024 or 1680 x 1050. Your treasured vintage game collection will still look splendid!

- Has a great software tool that will set the correct color / contrast / brightness balance. Make sure you run MagicBright after installation - the image is stellar once you have this set.

- Low power consumption - do your bit for Gaia ;-)

- The memory resident tools do not task the CPU.

- Tack sharp display with almost non-existant light bleed at the edges

- Games look superb!

- No dead pixels

- Comfortable viewing size - I find larger displays somewhat taxing on the eyes

- Has a great tool that can divide your display into various logical units - a bit mike having multiple displays - very cool as this makes apps snap into the regions just like extra displays

- Amazing price - 2ms + 20,000:1 contrast ratio + Samsung quality + auto resolution detect + much more!

Cons:

- No height adjustment - but by no means a show-stopper when you bear in mind the spec.

- Tilt only tilts away, not towards you. The assumption is that you will be looking down at the screen up to horizontal, which is ergonomically incorrect. The user should have the option to view at 90 degrees or above to avoid neck strain. I resolved this by buying a sturdy stand so I can have the mid-screen point at eye level ;-)

- No frame color options - just translucent burgundy, which looks blackish most of the time in low light conditions.

- Software installation is confusing. It recommends that you download the latest software. When you click the link, it's very unclear what you need to do. I couldn't see a option for the T220, so I just installed what was on the disk and everything ran fine. You must run the software installer using Internet Explorer, otherwise you need to manually run the install exe from the CD.

ViewSonic VA2226w 22-inch Wide LCD Computer Monitor (21.6 Viewable) Digital/Analog Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very good monitor for the price.I considered the VX2240W from Viewsonic (for about $100 more), but determined it wasn't worth it.Maybe I'm just cheap. ;-) It seems like it may be the same LCD panel as with the VA2226W but has slightly less bezel coverage and comes with a DVI-D cable.Too bad the VA2226W doesn't come with that cable, but I had an extra lying around.

CORRECTION TO SOME MIS-INFORMATION ABOUT REFRESH RATES --
SpamFreeOrDie says the 60Hz rate is too low, but I'm not sure what that means for an LCD monitor.All of my LCD run at the manufacturer's suggested 60Hz and look great; no flicker like if it was a CRT with such a low refresh (or scan) rate. I don't know what SpamFreeOrDie is seeing with his LCD monitor, but LCD and CRT are quite different in this regard.

LCD at 60Hz is just fine.CRT need a faster refresh rate due to the characteristics of the phosphor on the glass tube.Whereas, an LCD pixel will keep it's image intensity until the next refresh, a phosphor pixel will immediately begin to dim as the electron beam passes it.That passing of the electron beam is at the scan rate (also called, refresh rate).With a CRT a too slow refresh rate will cause flicker.Personally, I set it to at least 85 Hz on my CRT.Refer to this article for more information on refresh rate and scan lines:

You are not going to see any flicker like with a CRT at such a low refresh, nor will you have a sharpness problem unless you are not displaying at the native resolution.I guess that is the main issue with LCD; like SpamFreeOrDie says, they are best viewed at their native resolution.So if your video card cannot handle the 1680x1050 native resolution of this monitor, you should consider another monitor.Many 19" LCD have a native resolution of 1280x1024, (which isn't widescreen), which is very doable by most video cards manufactured in the last last 3 or 4 years.

The response time IS important with LCD monitors (as with CRT).That is the time that it takes a pixel to change to the next color (or intensity).If the response time is too slow, the image will ghost; that is, you will see trails of the old image as the object moves across the screen.The 5 msec response time of this monitor is just fine; even for fast action games.Personally, I wouldn't get an LCD monitor with more than an 8 msec response time.

Samsung 1 TB SATA II Hard Drive HD103UJ Review

(More customer reviews)After reading the white papers and reviews available for this drive it was clearly not simply a replacement drive, but an upgrade.

The read-write speeds are incredible. Considering the configuration of the number - and the draw - of internal components within my systems; any additional draw on power supplies are calculated. Here it was negligible. In the first workstation I installed one of these, heat is a major consideration. This drive produced practically no heat compared to any drive I've used.

I wanted to wait for a period prior to writing a review to have the drive tested over time in a number of computers to see how it performed over time. The unit has proven a reliable high performance drive across the board.

As when reading reviews, each reader is looking to see if one covers their specific needs. I will disclose the specifics of my use. These drives are currently being run in Powermac G5s and Mac Pros. I have not tested this drive type in a PC. My use is in film and video post production, primarily visual effects. So the drives are genuinely tested. Massive files are written to from them. They are used for everything from being the drives with the OS and softs on them, to rendering.

While I'm sure they would perform as well in a PC, in Macs it has performed brilliantly.

Apple MacBook MA701LL/A 13.3" Notebook PC (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive) - BlackThe color is brilliant, the contrast is impressive, the text pops and it's just plain beautiful to look at, even if you are working. I literally find myself working on things because I don't want to take my eyes off it.

While I love the look of Apple's cinema monitors, the price point is just so high. The HP w2207 represents a far more reasonable price point.Also, if you're a writer like me, HP makes a clip system for this series of monitors, so you can have a document holder off to the side without having to glue something to side of your monitor untiil the end of time.

If you're an art director, graphic designer, or similar artists thinking, "Ah-ha, this guy's a copywriter. What does he know about monitors?" Well I've been in advertising since 1996 and I've seen all kinds of monitors and this is one of the most impressive I've ever seen at any price.

Also, I took sometime to compare this model to others available for sale from a variety of manufacturers and no one matches the image quality in my opinion. This might seem strange for HP to come out on top in comparison to other companies that specialize in monitors, but the truth is people largely, buy their computers based on the quality and look of the monitor. Apple realized this early on and apparently someone told HP too. I wonder how many HP computer bundles are going to be sold based on the performance of this beauty?

Sure, it takes a little adjustment both on the monitor itself and on the display portion of the system preferences, but it's easy enough.

Plus, the built in speakers are much better than you'd expect from a monitor and the built in 2 USB hub is a nice little touch. More would have been better, but an extra usb port is always nice.

All of this said, there are some flaws with this monitor.

1. The rotating screen landscape-or-portrait function is great, but it doesn't work with the MacBook in Mac mode. What I'm talking about is the ability to physically turn the monitor and have the display go into a portrait arrangement. It's probably too much to ask for from a monitor made by a PC manufacturer, but it would have been nice if the software bundle would have included something for us, Mac people. It still works with the MacBook just fine in landscape mode, but it would have been nice to have this particular bell and whistle.

2. The monitor does have a DVI connection as well as an analog VGA connection, but it only comes with an analog VGA wire. Don't settle for VGA, when there's DVI to be had! Order a DVI wire with your order like this one.Cables To Go 2m DVI-D M/M Dual Link Digital Video Cable The response time is appreciably faster than with VGA. It's slight, but it's there.

3. Hopefully, this won't be an issue, but its warranty is for only one year, while others come with a three year warranty. This is a little disconcerting, but I'd rather have one year of looking at this screen than 3 years of looking at washed out or drab monitor.

4. The screen does pick up reflections more readily than other flat panels.

And even with these shortcomings, I've still got to give it 5 stars. It's just that beautiful!

UPDATE: Although mine did not, this monitor now does come with a DVI cable. So you won't need to buy one separately.

Color is matte blue and white which shows no fingerprints. Actually like the color better than I thought I would. Build quality is solid as you would expect from Samsung. Screen is matte not glossy which I also like. Very little bloatware to remove. I bought this for my wife who travels and has to give powerpoint presentations. Needless to say she loves this little thing. It will certainly make her travel easier, as this netbook is so small and light(2.8 Lbs). It is a simple netbook; doesn't come with all the bells and whistles, like bluetooth, 1.3 camera, etc. The wifi card found my AT&T Uverse device quickly, so I was on the internet immediately. Battery life is as advertised; it took me about 6 hours to run it down from initial full charge. Wife likes the touchpad, too; I use the usb mouse. If you want a solid, simple netbook with middle of the road battery life, you will like this little gem.
Out of the box, fully charge the battery(light on left front edge of netbook will go from orange to green when fully charged). Next boot up and it will lead you quickly through windows XP installation. Then configure it with programs like you want it. Then enjoy. It is a great product and a steal at this price.

(More customer reviews)After researching many different 22" monitors, I chose the Samsung 2243BWX because of Samsung's proprietary use settings (e.g., a text setting) and its ability to pivot.I had reservations after reading about uneven LCD quality in other Samsung models and after reading that the monitor had to be tilted up slightly while pivoted.Neither reservation proved to be a problem: the LCD was flawless (with no dead pixels or lines) and, once pivoted, the screen's could be adjusted to a surprising extent.There was some backlight bleed at the top of the screen, but no more than other LCD monitors.I also can't speak to its suitability for gaming or video; for work-related purposes, it's perfect, however.
